I'm opening this post as a place to describe hen sightings, specifically :-)

    Here's the first one:

Penny is sound asleep on top of Tilly (or visa versa) with Milly cuddled beside them. Now THATS community!

    I see...

Tilly and Penny hiding at the back under the house, sheltering from the wind.

Milly is out front, gobbling everything in sight. She's making the most of having no Tilly to peck her, i think :P

Ollie! (This is a respone to Ollie's worry in another post - a worry I have every time I come on this late and see the feathers in the food area.) I BELIEVE that when the feathers are this evenly dispursed that its a good sign that it is just moulting. That's what I tell myself at least... Sigh.

The rain might sound nice but it's not so good when you have to go out and feed the animals in it :D

The day has turned out beautiful, although none of the girls are sunbathing...in fact all three of them are hiding right back in the extension of the coop, grooming themselves.

I'm glad Janice mentioned that was rain yesterday. I've always heard that sound as another version of the electronic interference "slurping" we hear. It sounds very lovely when you know its rain (and don't have to slosh around in it) :D

Ooooh i just heard a really LOUD magpie squawk from the cam, and now the girls are wide awake wondering what's going on outside, bless them! I see Tilly and Penny are sleeping either side of Milly...they look very cute.

Hey Diane, I managed to get some more mouse pics tonight for you :) I was cleaning them out and managed to get a few sneaky photos - which is not easy! I put all the mice in a small cardboard box when i am cleaning them out, and they keep me so busy cleaning the cage and trying to make sure none of them escape at the same time :D

I'll try get them up on hencam within the next few days, but it may be a bit longer depending on when my dad has a little free time to help me :P

Hi, everybody!! The girls were just standing up but it looks like they've settled down a bit....Milly isn't included in this, I can't see her at all. One of the two (Penny and Tilly) is hunkered down with head in feathers...the other is sitting up a bit but looks pretty quiet...head moving side to side a bit.

Diane, I have to get used to this 17 inch screen because my eyesight isn't that great anymore....I had an easier time with the laptop!!! However, this big desktop runs MUCH cooler...in fact, it seems not to get hot at all!!!

One of the others is also standing, but her head is out and the other is next to her, standing. First gal just sat down !! They should be rockin' and rolling soon--they seem to be busy by 7am. Wonder how the changing daylight is affecting them!! By the way, we're with Daylight Savings Time until Nov. 4 here in the States, which is several weeks longer than in the past. It really is affecting when I walk the dogs! Good morning, all!!

    Dianne. Re your 6.14 post;
The moving letters are large capitols, maybe 16 or 20 point, coloured lilac.
The underlining is not there all the time, only when the letters run away off the page side but not when the letters bounce from side to side.
The red lettering in previous post behaves in the same way though it doesn't bounce.

    I'm very impressed !

Now it looks at tho it was actually Tilly - sitting right on top of Penny. Milly came rushing over and pushed them all aside. Then a lot of jostling and clucking. The end result seems to be Tilly sitting on Penny again, with Milly right beside. Its only 6 pm there; are they usually even in their sleeping room this early?

    Keeper of the hens

    Hey Diane,

yeah now that winter's fast approaching and it gets dark earlier, the chickens go to bed around 6-6:30pm.

The girls usually lay eggs around midday, although sometimes it is as late as 3:00pm.

Also, they talk to each other when they go to bed. They tell each other if the sleeping area is safe, checking for predators, and they all have to go to bed in the right order - Milly gets a peck and is sent back down to the coop if she tries to go to bed before the others are ready :-)

All 3 sleeping together, still, looking very happy.

Heading towards midnite and all three are sleeping well. Red, I loved your details about how they girls go to bed! Getting to bed early, I see....and they way they talk to each other must be adorable! Oh, my Milly can't rush things at bedtime apparently Right now, she seems to be sleeping away from the others who seem to be quite close to each other. Oh, whoever is on the far left is awake, with eyes opening and head moving. I hear something rattling around...thought it was computer noise, but it sounds like someone moving boards around...???

Yes Red, that's great info! And just about exactly what happened. With the addition of Tilly (I'm assuming) roosting on top of Penny (I'm assuming) for about an hour. LOL Now they are 3 little chickens all in a row.

Milly is awake now at 435 AM her time. She is standing up and scratching. The other girls are opening and closing their eyes too.

Milly seems to be snoozing again, at the back of the coop. Is that Penny who is standing and wide awake? Don't see Tilly anywhere....Well, I'm off to shower and go to bed....just as the girls are getting ready to wake up, if they're not awake already!

Don't think my feed is working too well tonight - no chickens and just broken background noise. Hope you're all OK girls!

That's either one GIANT black hen, or Tilly & Penny in a clump.

The light is changing. Tilly? upfront, seems lighter in color than the girl in the back, who seems almost black. I'm not sure of Milly's whereabouts....I thought she might be hunkered down between the others, but Tilly? has been stretching a bit (although still hiding her head in her feathers) and it doesn't look like Milly--too small a lump there...Oh, wait....I think I see the unmistakable black neck feathers of Milly, unless those are little feathers from Tilly? that look like Milly's neck!

Penny was doing that to Tilly just the other day. What, is she cold? No chickens in view right now, in the feeding zone - but a nice 'welcome to hencam' sign. At least that's what I think it says. Some glare from the sun at the moment.

Just now as the sun is setting in England, the girls are retiring for the night. Tilly went in first( with some straw in her mouth ) , next came Milly . They had a little girl talk once inside. Now Penny has joined them. Sweet Dreams, girls.

Ah, so I wasn't nuts...that really was Milly getting sat on last night!

I see Milly "in between" the two other girls tonight, but I bet she could be squashed again if Penny or Tilly deicdde to do it. Is that Tilly with the ruffled feathers standing and Penny (darker) hunkered down to the right of Milly.

    Keeper of the hens

We have a very un-exciting view of the coop door and mesh...

My dad is trying to fix the door, so i think he tried to point the cam at himself...and failed! Can hear him sawing though, just can't SEE him - I'll go tell him :D

Well, I'm online at an unusual hour for me! About 7:30 AM and LO and BEHOLD!
I see hens in daylight, walking around, pecking instead of hunkering down and smashing each other up but sitting on each other! LOL! I SEE THE SIGN!!! I think that's Tilly up front...looks like holes in her feathers, where there are NO feathers...Milly mid-run, looking as gorgeous a ever...I think Penny is way, way back....

Nice to see you up and around in daylight, girls!!!!

Milly is reading the sign - and I can finally read it as well! (No sun glare.) Some beautiful black feathers are framing the cam, as TIlly/Penny snuggles right up to the lens.

Milly and Penny (I think) are standing behind their water bottle - must be feeling shy today! Don't know where Tilly is. (Having two black hens is so difficult - can't one of them dye their feathers brown for us voyeurs!!!)

LOL. Kate, I asked once if they could wear little neck scarves.

Milly just walked up and stared directly into the lens (a staring hen is in profile - so the only thing on cam for that moment was a perfectly framed right eye, her whole head, comb & beck.) Sweet. :)

Now there is a lot of bustling around looking for food.

Hello from the Sansings of Grenada: We are up earliy our time , to watch the meteor shower. They are falling at the rate of about 10 per hour now. It is a chilly 53F. I wanted to log on and see the girls while warming for awhile. So far , lovely Milly is the only one in sight , but it sounds like the other girls are close by. Milly is happily scratching and talking to herself. xxxxx
