Tilly is having a big sulk at being locked out of the bedroom.
She'se snucked down in front of the dust pit, all hunched and cosey.
Penny in close attendance the other side of the little fence.

Good news Tilly has spent more time off the nest today so hopefully she's coming out of her broodiness - I feel rotten at kicking her off her nest so it's good that she's getting back to normal!

Glad the mic move has helped Ollie, we do try to help but it's quite difficult to move about due to wires etc (and when I'd finished fastening it in place I came in to check it and there was no sound - cue me running round like an idiot panicking thinking I'd broken a wire or something, luckily it just wasn't plugged in properly!)

Not sure why they'd go early - I was thinking maybe they were catching up from when I kept them up late but that was a while ago now.

I think Tilly is broken out of her broodiness so that's why they're back together, which reminds me I need to move the bedroom camera back!

Not exactly "hatching" into a pan if it's unfertilised...? That's quite emotive language to use.

I'd rather cook with an unfertilised egg than it be hatched and end up like the huge majority and treat dreadfully in the food industry.

My friend's uncle is a butcher and sells eggs. He once got the fertilised and unfertilised eggs mixed up, and my friend cracked an egg into her frying pan, exposing a gloopy partly formed chick embryo, lots of veins and she could even see the heartbeat.

I wouldn't have thought, as vegetarians, my parents would be able to eat fertilised eggs...would they?

Not something I've really thought about but I guess not. I suppose you could argue at that stage it isn't really conscious but I'd still rather not have anything to do with it. But bear in mind what they do to fully grown animals and people eat that, then really they shouldn't be squeamish about it.

Our rule is nothing that's been killed or once lived etc etc...

Off to a BBQ to eat lots of Lincolnshire sausages tonight! (meatless of course)

(I can see the skies darkening already in preperation!)

My mom had the same happen when she cracked an egg once - I didn't see it, but its always stayed with me. I don't know what the word for it/me would be, but if that happened to me I don't think I'd ever eat an egg again.

Yes!!!!! And I freely admit that I could never kill an animal myself, and avoid thinking about how they meet their end. We will never stop people eating animals, but there is no reason for them to suffer beforehand. I would pay double if it meant a guaranteed humane end - if there is such a thing.

    drowns in air usually?

I think it's clever how the packaged meat (even milk) is so far removed from where it actually comes from that people rarely think what it actually is that they are eating...

Well I would just pass on the advice I was told...

Never have a tattoo done that you don't mind having on you for the rest of your life, and that you might get wrinkly and saggy so bear it in mind!!

Also think about future employers, yadda yadda yadda. Names are a no-no, as should be anything you can see when dressed 'normally'.

Helen's friend at work is paying thousands of pounds to have a tattoo laser-removed as she no longer likes it - would have been much cheaper to think twice at the time!

The comment about future employers is very true, especially with women. Unless your lucky enough to have a very open minded boss, or a job working in a tattoo shop, if its visible when dressed for an interview then first impression may put them off. You get or lose a job in the first 30 seconds, often before you've opened your mouth. Don't be fooled into thinking that excellent grades will override everything else!

I hear Cheryl Cole (Tweedy) will be looking to get her "Mrs C" removed from the back of her neck.

My son has his daughter's name tattoo'd down his inner forearm, but she will always be his daughter no matter what. He said he'll get the next baby's name down the other arm. I hope they don't have a third as I dread to think where its name would go!! LOL!!

If you can’t boot your system in normal or safe mode, you may try downloading a bootable cd off the internet for your version of windows.
As for backing up all your files and photos I use “carbonite” from carbonite.com it is an automatic backup over the internet. If you lose your hard drive or have to replace your computer you can access all you files, photos etc an download them to your new one.
Email me if I can help.

I think that they are in league with the hardware manufacturers!!

The newest operating system always makes your existing hardware go slow (or not work at all), so you have to buy a new PC/laptop, which comes with... a new operating system!!

I was reading on Neils blog about his two new frogs. Then low and behold when I went to have a tidy in my green house there was one in there. It was a tichy little thing about half an inch long so must have been one of the ones that came from the frog spawn I rescued. It was real good and hung about while I got my camera !!! So I made it a frog cave in there with a large piece of busted flower pot to hide away in.

Right, this is totally off-piste, but I have to tell you (Kate reminded me)because this made me laugh. I was watching a Welsh programme on nicknames and the chap said that Welsh nicknames derived from occupation, favourite food or personal appearance. An onlooker said he was known as Kevin Kebab. 'Ah, because you like kebabs?' the chap said, knowledgeably.

I think Tilly might be half-broody (!) - Helen had to tip her off a grand total of 10 eggs the other day...

My hens have been little sods at bed time just recently. I think they have gone to bed then they all come trooping up the path to meet me, then they grumble like mad when I herd them into their bedroom.

It makes me a bit sad that hens will lay eggs even when kept in horrible conditions (battery cages) - like the recent BBC program said "Chickens are a victim of their own success" - namely that they are able to survive in a huge range of conditions and produce eggs/meat in less than ideal conditions.

I do think that happy eggs are nicer though.

    Here Here Niel well said.
When i give people some of my eggs they never fail to be very impressed with the difference from the eggs they usually buy.
The problem being people think an egg is an egg but we know it is not!!!!!!!!!!!!:drool5:

My neighbour usually buys a dozen eggs from me once a week. Her hubby wont eat eggs if he thinks she has got them from the supermarket. The hens have a few treats from their egg money.

The gentle undulations of sleeping hens...

    Something quite calming about it.

However I can't believe Tilly is feeling a bit broody again (well, she does until she hears treats arriving in the coop!)

Hee hee, mine are the same they pedal at top speed with their necks straight, wings out for that little added bit of lift. Quite scary to anyone who are not used to Hens.
That reminds me a cat came over our fence a couple of days ago right behind where the girls were half asleep in the sun. It made them jump almost out of their skins and poor Lady Jane flew right over the picket fence on to the patio. She was so confused as to how she got there I had to chuckle to myself. They set up such a clamour I was almost deafened and the cat couldn't get back over the fence quick enough !!!!

I got one that is half broody, the others kept attaking her so I have had to put her in the gazebo. She doesnt want to sit yet but is making the right noises and fluffing herself up when anything gets too near.
