I like this angle, we can see the lower bit too where they drop down to sometimes while waiting to be let out.

You missed us all last night when you were hitting the town. There was just about everyone on here, chasing up and down! It was great fun.

Hi Lynn :) How did the family do at midnight? Did you watch the Seattle fireworks? I feel so badly for the man who own the company that does the Space Needle fireworks - beautiful clear skies, supposed to be the best fireworks ever, and then the computer breaks down and there is nothing for long minutes, a couple of explosions and the nothing again. Finally they set them off manually and, to me, it looked like something a 10 year-old had arranged. The newscasters were at a total loss. Awww. Poor things. I do feel bad for all of them. Did you see it? One for the history books.

Morning Red :) I thought a hangover might be the situation today. He he.

Well, just to know - I didn't actually hear any 'bad' language. What I was hearing sounded like a boy on some kind of amplification devise and then all of you laughing. (And a really wonderful 'Happy New Year' out in the coop from you and your friends that actually did bring tears to my eyes.) BUT - Lynn does have about 10 pin holes in her leg from the festivities last night. ;) It is truly facinating this electronic community. A party in England and a cat jumps in western Washington.

All three lined up...is that Penny facing front? It's nice to see them all together like this.
    It seems pretty quiet....

I went to bed before New Year here...heck, when I woke up in the morning it was already the new year in Australia...so, no biggie! When I lived near New York City, you really felt New Year's because it was real time in Times Square. Since I moved two hours west to New Mexico, it isn't such a big deal anymore....

How strange! Thought I'd have a quick peek at hencam before I went home fully expecting it to be an "empty" coop as they're usually in bed. But no, all 3 girls are still wandering around! It's pretty much dusk here and tends to get darker 'oop north before the Midlands, so they're being dirty stop-ups today!! Anyway, time to leave the office now so can't watch any longer!

CC Rides the Cam. Excellent; no longer a virgin.

Hey, yah, Kate - where's The Blanket????? Are your fingers to sore to snap the picture?

Smiley codes: (just don't leave a space between-I'm doing so in order to keep them from becoming smileys & hiding the code)

    The two you know:

    ; ) : )

    Then:

    : P (embarrassed), : \ (rolleyes), : D (laugh), : ( (sad), : X (shut my mouth), : o (shock)

    Anything else I've forgotten?

Also - a little trick for learning the code of a new one you see: Put your cursor directly over a smiley someone has posted, then 'right mouse click' and a little menu will appear, select "properties" at the bottom of that menu, then look at the bottom of the next menu that has come up - you will see the code!

Everyone, over here WE HAVE SNOW!!!! *is excited*

It's a good job the chucks have a roof because they hate snow - when they used to free-range, they'd refuse to come out of the coop unless we shovelled a path for them :D

They're still hiding at the back of the coop, though...probably because it's flipping freezing outside :)

CC you're right, she does love him. Proved by how many times she tries to wake him up when he's in bed in the day - how is she to know he was at work all night? She was asleep after all!! She just doesn't want him to miss out on the daylight, daytime TV, and of course while he's up and about if he happens to find the cat food ... its a bonus !!!

Hen report: all 3 hens look bright and happy today. Tilly is peering into the lens to see why I'm not working I think!

Addicted!! Getting up early to watch hens - bless!!

Penny has the orangy brown feathers on her neck, but when she's close to the camera they just look 'light' rather than a colour. I see Tilly has some white feathers very low down on her bottom through to under her belly! Not sure if Penny has the same - she's eating in front of the camera and doesn't look keen on moving at the mo! Tilly is stomping back and forth, and Milly is ambling around from side to side.

    Keeper of the hens

My parents were laughing at Milly the other day because her tail feathers are 'mangled.' We were looking through a book about chickens and there was a picture of a light sussex hen with beautiful black pattening on her tail feathers, all swirly and intricate. Then my dad looked over at Milly (who was busy pecking at the carpet) and said "Look at the state of her..." In case you haven't noticed, Milly has very wonky tail feathers, with random splodges of black here and there, bless her :D

I've never noticed that she has wonky feathers - will be studying that in future!! Does she enjoy the occasional foray into the house then? Do you let P&T in too or is it a Milly special?!

I did get a big hen-fix today though when I was at work and my computer decided to save at the same speed as it would've taken to use pen and paper, so I had to do something, and hencam is top of my favourites, and it looked like I was working!

Yep, especially when the 'kids' are 23 and 20. Youngest can drive himself but eldest hasn't learnt yet. My new year resolution is to get him to have at least one lesson to try it, then force him into more until he can drive.

Hen Report: I see a little brown hen hanging her hind in off the perch in a most uncomfortable looking pose. Her spine much be a lot more flexible than mine.

The Girls - Still in bedroom, missing out on the rare sunshine. It is actually 5degrees with wind of 8mph, quite a nice morning and promising to keep this way today and tomorrow.

Yes, the weather hasn't been too bad today, Ollie...and over here we have 16mph wind, brrrr no wonder it feels so cold :-)

The girls are all busy scratting at the back of the coop...don't blame them, the first half of the coop is really muddy. I dug some out this morning and put sawdust down, but as soon as it rains again i guess the same thing will happen :-\

The coop looks really tidy Red, you did an excellent job and I hope the girls appreciate it! Are they bothered by the mud? Does it affect their feet at all being wet and dirty?

Hurray for a tidy coop! Now all we need is for it to not rain all next year... :D

The chucks don't like the mud at all, and will avoid it when they can...i think Milly in particular hates it because it messes up her feathers, and then she gets dragged inside for a bath :)

Next time a supertanker decides to abandon its contents all over a beach you could go wash the birds with the experience you've gained then! Think they're looking to go to bed - can't see the ramp but get the impression that Penny's blocking it as Milly and Tilly keep looking up that way.

Penny always goes up first, then stands at the top of the ramp for about ten minutes, poking her head into the bedroom clucking nervously and checking for monsters... :-\

Ah bless!!! The other 2 have just gone to join her. Foggy had her first sight of the hens today - she came and sat on my lap about 15mins ago and suddenly spotted them so climbed up to have a look at the screen. Then Danny came past and she was embarrassed at having been spotted by someone else so ran off. Also, just before Tilly went to bed she was having a flap and a cluck so I put the speaker by Emmett and she was hooked too!

I thought it was "... and hide her head under her wing, poor thing, ..." or did my nan sing it wrong? (She used to make up her own words sometimes!)

Lovely close up of Milly. Penny or Tilly keeps peeking over the top of her every now and then!

Don't worry, found the answer elsewhere!

Well, as its now gone midnight and hubby's gone to bed ill, son's got to work tomorrow, and I'm the only one on line, I feel a bit like Billy No Mates so am going to retire to my bed now.

Milly is still at the front looking like a headless chicken (that is, I can't see her head rather than she's running round not knowing which way to go!) but she does come out every so often, gives her comb a shake, then sticks her head back between her wings.

Argh!! Tilly just rose up like something from a horror film, getting bigger and bigger and bigger! Now Penny's joining in, standing up and having a look around. Glad its only you lovely things not a monster, I'd have nightmares! Goodnight girls, see you tomorrow!
