    Keeper of the hens

Aw it was FAB! We did so many things...swimming at least once a day, high ropes, abseiling, rock climbing, tree trekking...AWESOME!

One day we had abseiling and tree trekking booked, we did abseiling and there were these spoilt brats in the group wasting time, so after the session one of the instructors came over and gave us a note for free 18-hole crazy golf for both of us, and after that free rock climbing!

So that day we did abseiling, golf, rock climbing, tree trekking then swimming...whilst cycling everywhere hahaha

I did get photos, but me being the pleb I am I left my camera in the car, so don't imagine I'll be able to share them any time soon :glare:

    I woke up to this!

And had to rescue my poor car from this:

Had to clear the snow from it as I didn't want the weight sagging my roof!

We had to go out in it too as Helen's car needed picking up after it's MOT, so we had a leisurely walk there (no way I was going to die in an inferno of twisted metal by taking my car out in the snow!)

I have noticed that Penny and Tilly are generally quiet. It must have been Milly who was the chatterbox. I well remember having to turn off the volume on numerous occasions.

    Hi Lynn,

Finally! It's officially approaching Spring when the hens are still up for you! :-)

I think the cams compensate for low lighting levels so it often looks brighter in the evening than it probably is - by 6pm I think it's approaching night (just checked and sunset is 6:07pm tonight).

Glad you got a peek of Tilly up and about anyway, hopefully soon they'll both be up!

Scarlet - you were right, I thought Penny was just having us on! if I can get close enough to Penny she'll get a stroke or cuddle (the cuddle is doubtful she really doesn't like me) - can promise them grapes though!

We have some going off grapes they could have, but unfortunately the only animals here that are allowed them get full after about half a grape... :face-plain:

Yeah, no wonder she doesn't like you, you held her upside-down once! She used to hate me though, but she's quite happy to be cuddled now (once you get hold of her!) and d'you remember when she flew onto my leg for a cuddle of her own accord?! :mouse:

I've never seen a chicken do that, but when I was a child I used to love to watch the blackbirds and starlings sunbathing. They also used to lie on the ant nest as if they were dead (I went running to my mom the first time I saw one!) to pick up ants to eat/take back to the nest for the babies.

Emm, on HenCam there is no such thing as "late" you can answer at any time. Some of our friends are in other parts of the world and on completely different time scales.
You can view our locations by clicking on the GOOGLEMAPDIRECTORY link at the top of every page.
Use the roller backwards to scroll out and see all the "pins" Click on one to investigate. You may get round to putting your pin on there sometime.
    Where are you?

Lynn, I spoke to my friend in Crowley, Texas and they are having excellent weather and made me feel quite jealous, though it is very spring like here too and feels just lovely at the moment.

Tilly is looking a little droopy today, I hope she's alright...I think it's Tilly the light is fading a bit so it could be Penny.

Where is she? I can't see her sleeping. Did anyone see her go to bed? :(

    Texted my dad...

Let us know when you find out Red ... I can only see one black hen, unless they're really squashed up together. I would normally assume the other was sitting on the floor - get your dad out there to have a look!

One of the hens is downstairs in the run - Tilly? I think she has just 'arrived' - was Neil there? The external light was on and now its gone off.

My dad says she seems fine, panic over everybody :)

She probably went down to see if my dad had left her any treats, the big nitwit! Now she'll have to get back up in the dark, and she's already terrible at it ha ha ha!

The girls are up moving around alright this morning, scratching up something for breakfast. Sorry to scare everyone, but one of them really didn't look right last night.

No it's a good thing Lynn! It meant I could get in touch with my dad and make him check on them RIGHT NOW! I'm glad you pointed it out, after Milly I'm always very panicky about the older girls

Don't be sorry Lynn, it was really useful as 99 times out of 100 when I see them they look ok as they're seeing what I'm bringing treat-wise (has to be a very ill hen not to get excited at treats!)

I did see Tilly this morning looking a bit 'under the weather', but hopefully I found what it was and she should be feeling a bit happier now that her bum feathers are shorter and nugget-free!

Oh dad Tilly is looking gorgeous this evening :) Really sleek and shiny and HUGE, she's massive! I think she's put on weight, start putting more of their treats in the basket.

Aw and there is Penny-hen. She looks bigger than your ordinary sized chicken, ha, they need a diet!! :tooth:

They'll be meeting Kasper next month won't they?

The girls are looking chipper this morning, outside already looking for breakfast. The wind seems to be blowing fairly hard today, but the little birds are singing so it must be a nice day.

Wow it's warm back home, there's a breeze here so it feels quite cool here. Can't see any chickens apart from a tiny bit of a preening chicken in the corner of the cam!

It's about 5:30 in the morning at hencam, and the girls are outside scratching around already. The little birds are singing and it looks like another beautiful day over there. I love seeing them out running around again.

Its 2pm and one of the girls is in the nesting box - is someone broody or is she just laying? I don't normally get to see them in the day. The other is having a lovely dust bath - there's dirt flying everywhere!!!

The cam is only showing the sleeping chamber and not any of the outside, it's not changing views at all. I can hear the girls out moving about, but I can't see them.:face-sad:

Ha ha Neil just read your post in 'latest news' on home page, what a brilliant pair those two girls are, (the hens.... not Helen and Red) I could just see the two of them plotting together to set you up beautifully. You described it so clearly. The cheeky things, I wonder what they will 'hatch' next.:face-smile:

Ha, I remember they got into the habit of yelling the egg call at the top of their voices every weekend, because they knew they would get brought treats to shut them up. It was rare anyone had actually laid an egg at the time
