One of mine leapt out of the bushes at me when I came home. I think she was expecting the little stray tabby boy to walk by, but he had played a blinder and walked around the back of the bushes!

Oh no, poor girl. Must be really awful for her and you with that beautiful long fur. My Foggy used to get terrible diarrhoea and I had to trim her fur away many a time to help her get clean!

I hope the vet can work out what is wrong with her - does he have any thoughts? I'm pretty sure they can get IBS, maybe Crohn's Disease? Allergy to something in the cat food? I don't know. Will you let us know? Good luck. xx

I woke up this morning to find bits of poo all over the house. I think one of my strays (who now lives with us) is the culprit having seen his deposit in the litter tray on Sat morning. (I don't think it's deliberate, he just has no control when he, er, breaks wind!)

They've all been on chicken and rice today, though I have relented this evening and given Kitten (the feral) and Tabby (the other moved-in stray) some Felix, but both boys and Emmett are chicken and rice only. If it doesn't help it'll have to be a trip to the vet tomorrow. They all have terrible gas - I wonder if Felix causes that? I don't like wet cat food at all, but they won't all eat dry and it doesn't seem natural either. Are your other cats OK?

She had a blood test as part of her pre op tests and they found that she had a kidney problem. Sally her Vet said this could have caused her to have the diarrhea so she is being kept at the Vets for a few days so they can monitor that and see what is what.
G/North rang this morning and they said she is calm and settled and they are going to do another bloos test tomorrow and then decide what is the best action to take from there. It is strange with out her and the other cats didnt want their meal last night. Sootz has been looking for her in all the cupboards he knows she canget into and hide. I still put down four plates of food last night and called her, then felt like a little weep. She is in the best place though as it has to be sorted.

Oh NN, I do feel for you! I know I would be just the same. Is Sootz her brother or are they not blood related? It is amazing the bond animals can develop.

One of mine had poo'd on the mat in the living room overnight but I don't know which one or why. We are assuming it is Ting Tong (the stray that had the runs at the weekend) either because he's still having problems, or because Meow Meow wouldn't let him out of the room to the litter tray. He is a bully. Then I found a tiny bit of blood on some poo in the litter tray (what a delightful post! LOL!!) Nothing I can do unless I can work out which cat it is though. Very frustrating.

I hope Sylvi will be home with you soon, and that the vet can do something to help her. Are you allowed to go visit? Will she be home for the weekend?

Sylvi is home now she is on a very special diet and can only have that. If she eats regular food she will die. It is heart breaking as she doesnt want or like the food and is eating so very little. She is not at all well but all we can do is wait for two weeks before the Vet decides on how she is doing and what steps to take next.
Yes Sootz is her brother, cats are so funny he so missed her when she wasnt here now she is home he wont go near her !!!
It is so hard keeping them seperate for feeding she wants to eat their food and they want to eat hers. I feed three in the conservatory and Sylvi in the front room. She has everything to hand as she is very weak and wobbly. I made her a bed under the radiator which she likes. I just take the food away for a couple of hours morning and afternoon so they can be together for a while.
It is heart breaking seeing her like this. I rang the vets and they said cats dont starve themselves to death and she will eat when she realises she can not have anything else. I just feel mega worried as it is seems she is the exeption to the rule to me.
Kimmi is very jealous and keeps pooing in his bed or on the mat or where ever else he thinks I wont see it until it has stunk the house out. He always does that when he is annoyed or upset, little begger.

Poor Sylvi. Some of the cats at rehoming are on special diet because of kidney complaints and the food smells horrible and sort of 'sticks' to the bowl so they rarely eat it. I feel so sorry for them but they must eat some of it I suppose. If they were in as a pair and just one needed the special diet it would be fed to both, but that's probably not something you'd want to do.

Is there another brand of the food she can have (is it wet or dry, and whichever it is, is the opposite available too?) Poor girl, she's having a really rough time of it.

As for Kimmi, he is very naughty! Do you think it's stress? I hope he does, er, 'firm' poo so that it's easier to clean up!

My two Burmese were on special diets for their kidneys. We gave thm boththe dried special food right from when the first one became ill. It was easier than feeding them separately. They were always good water drinkers so the dried food suited them very well and it didn't smell much.

Hope Silvi is soon more chirpy.

Lots of love to you and Sylvi, NN; it's horrible feeling so powerless. But the vet's right; they do what they like when they like. See if Kate's sugestion about alternative wet/dry food is possible. Did the vet say what the problem was, exactly?

I never feel christmassy and no one else seems to be this year. Maybe I should take the week before christmas off and make an effort too next year. I always get great ideas AFTER christmas - I should write them down but I'd only lose the list. I suppose it's the slow decline into dementia that does it. Now, what was I talking about?!

Ho Ho Ho, well I feel very Christmassy, even though it's our usual very quiet one planned.
Not been able to do much preparation yet. The paths outside have been far too slippery to go out. The house is right on the country edge of the village and away from the main roads so the gritters rarely get this far down here.
I have used supermarket delivery service for goodies and Kleeneze (!) are getting me the cards. Nothing like sitting back and letting the flunkies do the work.
I'm not allowed to go up ladders so the decorations are still in the attic but then, what's the rush?

The snow looks pretty, but I'll bet the girls don't like it much.

Mine are banged up in their (no centrally heated) henhouse until it starts to thaw a bit. I opened the door and Lemon looked out and glowered at me and reversed back in.

Mine are walking up to the gate and back on the path I made this morning. They don't care for staying in the run even though the door is open.

It's darn cold out there - I don't blame them staying inside! Jenson is going out for extended periods but the other cats are out and back in within 5 minutes. I haven't ventured out today.

Tuppence is going in and out like a fiddler's elbow, the rabbits are gambolling in the snow like spring lambs, and the chooks have just been given a plate of hot rice cooked in Bovril!

Soots went out for half an hour and was still fed up so went to bed. Daisy has been my fidlers elbow today. Rabbits are well sulky and wont come out yet it is a tad warmer than yesterday when they were out all day and messed about going back in.
There is a slow thaw here most of the icicles have gone from the front of the house. Hens are happier and have made several new tracks to their favourite haunts. Mine had left over bread and butter pudding for breakfast today. They soon hogged that down. Bet Grandad North moans cos he wanted to finish it himself tonight !!!

Jenson went out this morning and then we were at work so he was out all day. He's just come in (7.pm), eaten then climbed up on hubby and cuddled right up into his neck -so cute!!

Sootz will only sit on my lap, but loves a good fuss from G/North in the bathroom in the mornings. They sit side by side on the edge of the bath chuntering away to each other, it is quite comical.

Hah! Loads! I try and collect them every day but have to admit it's been blowing a bloody gale lately so have been doing it every couple of days, and I'm amazed how they are still laying so many eggs!

We've had over 80 eggs since Christmas - they're laying at least 2 a day (between the three of them) - mind you, it's a looong time since we had young hens so haven't seen this many eggs for a while...

Hello George, yes you can have just one chicken but it will need plenty of cuddles and attention so it isnt to lonely. Really it is best to have at least two as they are flock creatures and enjoy having company and snuggling up together night times to keep warm.... How come you just got just one now ? Did the others die with an illness ??

    Keeper of the hens

We were down *all* day yesterday as my new Internet provider were on the ball in that they flipped the new service over at 8am!

Unfortunately less on the ball was the fact that they hadn't delivered the new hardware required to get it to work ;-) So it was off all day until about 6pm.

It's back now and should be working for everyone - let me know if you can't see it.

    Good to be back!
