Posted By: chief chickenI would draw your attention to Cat Man Doo on You Tube, Diane; it could be worse.

Watching it right now, on my cell phone, CC. Very funny. Also feeling relieved, as, with the word "doo" in the title I thought poop was probably involved.

Kate, that would be hilarious to try at least once and see if it actually makes people more interested. So funny. Tom was my personal favorite.

Ah, just asked again in another thread. Hoping that it is staying light enough to see them soon, from this side of the pond.

My little kitty, Maya, is very sick. Please send loving energy to her. Sob. She is sixteen. She has a very rare disease. Only three dogs and no other cats on Whidbey have had it. She has had a kitty nurse coming every other day since about December. Maya is such a sweet sweet girl.

    Thank you both.

Yesterday, she started spending all her time on a heating pad in one of the bedrooms, instead of part of the day and all of the night in a heated kitty bed where Holly and I both sleep. I felt so sad all day. And then I just decided to sleep in the bed next to the couch where her heating pad is, even though I was worried that she would feel 'invaded'. She JUMPED over from the couch to my bed and slept curled up against me all night. Times like this make me appreciate seeming "little" things very much. I feel scared too, about how much my heart was breaking just having her absent from the main part of the house. When a beloved one is passing, all the care and attention that I pour into them, leaves an even bigger void when they go. I wouldn't do it differently though. I am treasuring all this time I am getting with her.

Oh Diane, I am so sad for you. Has she just hit a rough patch with her illness or is it more serious? It sounds like she wanted the comfort of you being near her. When my Emmett was at the end she waited for Michael, my eldest, to get home. She loved him from day 1 and never waivered on that and I truely believe she wanted to be with him - it has always given me comfort that she was with him and vice versa. I am sending all my positive thoughts to Maya and you, whatever the outcome.

My heart is breaking for you, Diane. I know how much you love Maya and I remember the fight that it took to keep beautiful Holly alive (a fight you won hands down)I hope this will be a positive outcome too. You are one of the best critter Moms that I know. Maya knows how much you love her.

Hi. I wanted to let my dear hencam family know that my sweet beloved Maya passed away in my arms on Friday the 6th at 3:29 am. I am very sad but so grateful that she was in my life for almost two decades of it.

Her doctor actually got this very rare form of leukemia to go into remission - her lymph count at her first test (at a different vet clinic) was 24,000, in September. 12,000 is as high as that number should get in a healthy cat and the low end is something like 500. All her other organs were in great shape with a very slight issue with her kidneys. Expected in a senior citizen. Her next test was in January, after our new vet did a bunch of research and, months earlier, put her on two medications (Prednisolone 5mg 1x a day and Chlorambucil 2 mg every 48 hours) her lymph count was 79,000. All her other organs still looked amazing for a kitty of 16 years. It clearly seemed like the drugs weren't working. She had also lost a lot of weight. So we were feeding her really high protein food many times a day. Her last labs were March 30th and her hospice carer, her vet, and I each separately thought we were reading her lymph count wrong. It was 840. The cancer was in remission. But her kidneys were failing. I know this seems all very 'heady' while I am in grief about Maya but I just want everyone to know that this rare cancer can be treated (and to add a kidney treatment regime in while you do it.) She had Chronic Lymphocytic Luekemia (CLL).

I'm so sorry Diane, but very glad you were able to be with her and hold her at the end. Your vet managed to give you some extra time with her and I'm sure those extra weeks were invaluable. She had a wonderful life with you and would've known how much she was loved. I hope your vet writes up her case for the professional journals so that others can learn from her condition.

    Sleep soundly Maya.

That is Murphy's Law then. What does sod mean? It is used in...varying contexts. Doesn't it mean a type of dirt? FYI everyone, CC and I can go on like this for hours. She has sent me about ten dictionaries over the years ;)

A bit of a sod = nasty person or more usually typical rotten bit of bad luck when you least need it. Like turning up early to catch the bus, so deciding to walk to the next bus stop to keep fit and the bus, early, overtaking you when you're too far away from the bus stop to reach it in time.

So you never had the fun of bellowing it out and dissolving into cackles of laughter when it turned up in a hymn at school assembly then? Good King Wenceslas was the good one - 'heat was in the very sod which the saint had printed...'.
