The girls are having their supper before going up to bed.
It seems to be bright daylight in the coop just now but it is Neil's new camera giving that impression.
The light level here is really quite low and accompanied by a hefty fog.

The picture quality is wonderful, Neil..very sharp and clear. I can see it's morning there at hencam, however the girls aren't out of their bedroom yet. It looks foggy in the distance, but at least there is no snow.
I hope everyone has a great day..I'll see you late..I'm heading off to bed now. It's late over here.

    Keeper of the hens

You might have heard me swearing last night when I realised the security light and the low-energy bulb I bought to use as a fill-in light at night for the new camera wouldn't fit.

The light fitting was too small for the (quite long) energy bulb!

Anyway, I popped back to B&Q this morning and swapped the tiny security light for something a bit more sizable, so I should be able to fit it tonight, so expect more swearing tonight at about 6pm!

The general idea is to fit the security light with energy-saving bulb to the side of the shed so it will hopefully provide enough light (at little cost to me or the environment) automatically when it gets dark, so the moving cam can provide nice clear images at night.

Hah! I was quite impressed it only took me 20 minutes!! :D

I had more problems getting the mains lead through the sodding shed wall than the wiring and mounting bit - I had to fit the light to a normal plug too so I could then attach it to the timer - it should come on now when it starts to get dark and turn off in the morning automatically. One less thing for me to worry about!

 Ollie you always crack me up. I missed the swearing too, but the light is working good. I can see inside the pen very well. I can hear the camera moving around..maybe it needs a little oil on it. :-)

The mic is resting on the camera housing, so probably picking up the sound when it's very quiet elsewhere.

I need to mount the mic a few inches away, but it's getting everything to stay put with the mass of wires and electronics in the coop!!

It better not need oil on it! ;-)

Field bred means that she is not bred as a show dog, she is bred to work as a retriever with a gun. There are two breeds of the same dog. The working line is smaller than the show line, with lighter bones and a smaller dome on the head ears are a different length and muzzle is shorter. Police usually use them as sniffer dogs.

Bella will be trained to find people lost on the moors. She will carry water and chocolate and a whistle. with in a bright yellow jacket.

I will be trained to work with her in the Peak District from July, Training starts at six months old and usually lasts for nine to twelve months, then there is a six month break and Training again for three months. It's usually done over a period of weekends but broken down it's only about 20 weeks.

Sorry, I'm really not going to buy another light and wire it up - the shed will start to look ridiculous!

The light is really just to provide a bit of illumination so you can still see what's happening in winter when it gets dark before I get home from work...

That's great Stuart - from your description I'd say that my sis-in-law's dog is a show dog then - tall and stocky. I'd never say it to her (she dotes on her badly behaved boy!) but I prefer the working springers. And what a fanstastic thing you'll both be doing - I hope you'll give us updates on how the training is going.

I got 5 sebright chicks from the eggs. 3 silver & 2 golds. The silly little chicks pip at the small end of the egg right at the tip and most died trying to get out. very heart breaking, I ended up rescuing 5 but 1 died the next day. Only 1 managed to hacth itself. I hate to intervene with the hatching but couldn't watch any more dying. It was a bit of a dam if I do or dam if I don't situation. I'm a bit puzzled to why they hatched the wrong way. Will put a pic up tomorrow of all the chicks. Got the incubators set up again with more araucanas, silver hamburghs and silkies. The chrysalis hasn't hatched yet. Can't be too far away now, though is still green. Another caterpillar went into it's J shaped today so should be a chrysalis tomorrow hopefully. Only got 4 in total now that survive. But they are looking healthy.
