Still Milly front and centre! Oh, Tilly just stood up behind her and looked over as if to say "I'm here too"!

Get well soon Gloria! Sounds like you've had it really bad. My cold hung around for a while but at least it wasn't flu. Take care of yourself - I'm sure you've seen that we've been thinking of you. x :)

Wow, I thought only humans had 'lie-ins' and there's Milly snoozing away on the perch, heavy breathing and all!
She is now so close to the camera that she is all out of focus. Just a fog, possibly matching the outside weather.

    Keeper of the hens

Hey Gloria, good to see you around again. I hope you feel better soon :)

The chickens are all hiding in the back of the coop from the rain...if it was just a little bit colder it would snow, stupid weather.

Its not too bad down here in the Midlands, chilly and cloudy but dry at least. Looks very inclement oop north! Can see occasional movements right down the back, little flashes of white sometimes, but I can't blame them with that horrid rain.

Don't try to do too much too soon Gloria, slow and steady is the best way to recovery. xx

Ah - great to hear from you Gloria! I just knew something wasn't right :( You lost five pounds with it!! That's a lot in one week...golly.

I can't believe the impact this winter bug has had on our little hencam community. Well, today is the Solstice (HAPPY SOLISTICE EVERYONE!) so now each day will be lighter and those nasty virsuses will run away to escape from the light :D Wishing all you coughing, sneezing, and errr...otherwise burdened folks a speedy recovery.

Hen Report: This is a first for me! I came on just in time to see a feathery brown hen bottom disappear at the top of the ladder into the sleeping quarters. I've never seen them going to bed before. :)

As a child did anyone ever have one of those toys that was like a ping pong bat, with little birds on it all connected to a weighted string. When you gave the bat a gentle 'circular' motion the birds would peck up and down? Well, all 3 girls looked just like that around the water as they each took it in turns to take a drink!

The Sainted Kathleen gave me one for Christmas!! We had Christmas Ginnything on Friday, and we opened our presents (because we're all five at heart) and I got a hennypeck thing - and it's PURPLE (my fave) with flowers painted on it. And if I don't stop playing with it the Longsuffering Eric might just divorce me. Sage & Onion worried mwe by eating mistletoe berries today when I cut a load off the apple tree, but they just seem to have enjoyed them; evidently not toxic, then!
The girls arte just mooching around the pen having chicken fun at the moment...Milly is so pretty!

Ollie - I think you get the award for the most Red sightings :)

I love the girlfriends part of Christmas. For us its meetings in coffee shops and opening our little bags. Rebecca, my dog walking friend & I (she owns an adorable dingo-who everyone except Holly says is Holly's boyfriend) we exchange presents for our dogs as well. Rebecca's dog got a huge bone and some biodegradable poop bags from me and Holly got this mitten that looks like a huge dog paw that I can use to wipe her muddy feet, and a bag of her favorite meat treats. Martin, the cat, snatched Holly's foot mitten the minute I brought it in the house. Martin LOVES his fabrics and ribbon - and this mitten has the added thrill of a string for hanging it up. We played tug of war for a minute and then I just relented. Holly took a nap. I can't bring any ribbon from gifts into the house. He goes bananas.

I gave another one of my girlfriends one of those drinking chickens toys a few years ago. It was made in Russia I think. Really really cute. I wanted to keep it...

HEY I JUST REALIZED THAT IF YOU *CLICK* ON *LAST ACTIVE* in the thread summaries (it highlights in red) IT WILL TAKE YOU DIRECTLY & IMMEDIATELY TO THE LAST POST IN A THREAD. That might be the way to chat Wazza :) I'll have to try a thread that has photos in it and see if it stops the bouncing up and down endlessly thing that happens currently.

Someone in knocking and whooping on cam. I only see one little brown chcken behind in the sleeping area. The other two are probably on the part of the perch that is out of view.

YES!!! It takes just a second longer (when photos are in the thread) but the last post is what comes up (when clicking on *LAST ACTIVE* rather than the post title, etc...) AND it stops that bouncing effect :) So, am I the only one who didn't know this already?

Above is a replica of the heading of this particular thread. *Last Active* is between *chief chicken* & *34 minutes.

If you run your cursor over the entire paragraph (not in my post here-but in the actual heading for any thread), you will see some of the words change to red highlights. Whenever that happens on a website (not usually red but some color other than black) - it means you can click the highlighted thing and it will lead you somewhere :) Generally.

PROBLEM: If you DO use Last Active as a way to get to the last post in a thread, remember that it will bypass all of the other posts that have been entered since you last read the thread; so you will need to arrow up until you see the last post you recognize... Otherwise, you'll miss some important community input!!! :D I just like the Last Active way in because, with dial up, it takes much longer to get to the more recent posts-especially if there are any photos in the thread-if I go in by clicking the blue/underlined thread title.

Hey, we should have a little party when "About the girls" reaches 1,000 comments ;)

Wow - the hens are really rock'n out! Except, with the line interference it sounds like: Da de da de da da pfssssst. De da de.

Ah - BBC Radio One. That is totally cool. Telling us all Merry Christmas - in those most excellent accents - while the chickens attend to the important things - eating.

Well, I'm signing off now - to the tunes of Prince (or whatever he's not calling himself these days.) Oooo. Milly's thinking about a dance. Yup, there she goes. (I'm not kidding.) *yuuu don't have to rich to beee my girrrl...* Bobs her head up and down, now a little spin.

Sorry - PSP = play station portable (hand held games console). It can link to the web too, but it won't show the hencam - not enough memory I suspect - and didn't like the photos. Had I chosen a thread with no pics it might've let me post, but it takes forever to type anything on it so better for simple surfing! Or what its designed for - playing games!

Looks very windy in the coop. All 3 girls are stood at the back of the coop, like wallflowers waiting to be asked to dance with the music playing!

My youngest managed to stay in bed until 7.15am, which was when his dad got up. He then gave me 5mins grace before coming up and putting the light on, then waking his brother. I should be grateful - its usually 6am! Had the usual disappointment - bought Danny one of those tiny helicopters which he was really pleased about - except it didn't have batteries (despite the man who sold it me saying it did). :( Also, his new skates didn't arrive, but he's still upbeat.

Hen report: well, they're all down the back again. Its raining here so I assume it is there too. Happy christmas hens - and everyone else.

It sounds like there's someone moving about near the cam, but the hens don't seem bothered so perhaps its just odd noises. Does anyone else ever worry that they'll be watching one day and see a fox/dog/cat/stranger in the coop and there's nothing they can do, or is that just me? Think I'll turn the speakers off.

    Stay safe EVERYONE!

The girls are awake, but they don't seem to want to go outside yet..it's late here so, I guess I'll head for bed. There is some kind of bleed over from a ham radio on the sound. I hope everyone has a good day after Christmas..or do you call in Boxing Day in the UK, like they do in Canada?

    Where are the Hen Keepers????
The hens have had their lie in and are standing waiting on their perches for the door to be opened.
Plenty of noises outside, a cow lowing, a horse trotting by but I don't hear the ham radio. Would be interested as I was a ham for many years, I still retain my licence. My son-in-law still does it. has a huge antenna in the garden which I can see from my house. He has a 24/7 webcam too

And Brown and Blue look sweet too - suppose that's one way to name your cats!

When I first connected I thought the picture had frozen - Milly and P or T standing very still on their perch. I went to have a quick peek at Ollie's son's site and when I came back the camera was moved! Can see Penny and Tilly but don't know where Milly is.

Kate - I do have that worry. There are times I've wished I had a button to push that would ring an alarm at Hencam HQ. But then, I'd be ringing it all the time and Neil would ultimately disconnect it anyway... :) Were you a Hencammer when Luke was *screaming* CAT! CAT! in the chat room? A number of us were very scared for a little while (seemed like an eternity.) But it turned out that Red was witnessing the cat in the hen house in real time. Red, do I remember correctly that the cat had actually run into the coop in fright, while all the chickens were having a day on the lawn and the cat was trying to get away from THEM?

Ollie - Thanks for posting Bob's site. Very cool. I LOVED his page called "about me," which from a woman's point of view had exactly two sentences about him. But I'm thinking, from a man's point of view, was deeply enlightening. He has talked with people in 239 countries! That's astounding!* Ollie, you seem to have figured out the Hen Keeper schedule very well. You're having lots of sightings!

*(Question: There are about 194 countries, internationally recognized as such, and roughly 245 political entities in the world. So-I'm assuming he means any contact outside UK, including contacting the same country more than once? I wonder then how many of the 194 he has left to contact? Just how far do those radio waves of his reach?)

Hen Report: They are upstairs/we are downstairs.

I was in the middle of watching The Full Monty but thought I'd come check out the coop - but the girls are in bed and the camera isn't. Still, Neil's entitled to veg in front of the TV too - won't kill us for one night! ;D

I never used to go to the chat - there never seemed to be anyone on line when I was around. I had a brief chat with someone once but that was all. Do the 'householders' keep a page open when they're home/at work?!

    Dunno.

When we were doing Chick Watch when Milly was hatching her eggs - I was dreaming of an international network where Neil had 6 or 7 different colored telephones-running in order of time zones. So, Pacific Northwest (USA) purple (of course), New Mexico green, Mid West (yellow) & so on. Then we could call on our private lines if there was a hatching or an emergency. All unnecessarily complicated but very pretty (and I was staying up late and not coherent at the time.)

Are they noisy? Milly, Penny and Tilly don't seem to make much noise - do Sage & Onion? My brand new neighbours didn't even bother to push a christmas card through the door, insisted on a fence before they'd sign to buy the house - don't strike me as sociable at all. Have only seen one of them once since they moved in (about 4 or 5 weeks ago). Just wondering if they'd complain. Do you have to have permission or a licence? Cricky, I sound like I'm considering it don't I?!

It appears to be Tilly. And the backend of Milly.

    -----------------------

I want to remind us all of the very sad anniversary of the Sunami. In memory of that terrible distruction for so many people and animals, I wonder if you know about (or would like to know about) KIVA. Its a reputable web location where you can partner with people in developing countries by providing them with small microloans so that THEY can bring themselves out of poverty. Its really cool. At the moment the most you can loan is $25 (or about 15 pounds?) And its a loan; you get paid back! Amazing things happen with these loans. If you google KIVA you'll see it.

Kate; if you got just hens, they don't make much noise at all; it's only when you have a cockerel that you get dawn crowing! Fortunately our neighbours are very very very very very nice (is that enough verys, Ray?) and we have 2 layers of sound deadening material on the coop. Imagine someone saying 'cockadoodledoo' with a hand over their mouth. Go on, Kate, you know you want to!

I think I might wait until after the grand-baby's been born and moved out - (with her mom and dad that is, not when she's 18 and off to uni!) - and then I'll think about it. We might even have a conservatory built by then - we keep threatening to have one but they're soooooo expensive!!

Anyway, hen report: Can see Milly's tail feathers, Tilly (I think) and either the back end of Penny or front end with head tucked in. Who knows!!
