    Keeper of the hens

It's officially Christmassy time...or at least it is here, because we love Christmas and we put the tree up weeks in advance :tooth:

One of the best things about putting the tree up is digging out the decorations and the memories that come with them all. I never understood this until me and Lyle bought our first tree and decorations, and now every bauble we have (and we buy a few new ones each year!) has a memory attached to them

Such as this monstrosity my parents bought for us a few years back :rolling:

     photo tree3_zpsnqmijjsh.jpg

This decoration was brutally attacked by Zoey two Christmas' ago hahahahaha!

     photo tree5_zpsbhjl1zpy.jpg

These birds were bought when we lived at the mouldy flat in Yorkshire, and most have suffered injuries over the years...
    :)

     photo tree6_zpsmfy62rvx.jpg

This fairy was bought in memory of the fairy we put on our tree when I was a young child, who mysteriously went missing one year. I distinctly remember when I was about eight (and wanted to be an architect!) designing the house I would build for me and my parents as an adult, and tacking on a little mini-house at the side for our fairy :rolling:

     photo tree7_zpsn9ukpuhh.jpg

Each decoration brings back another memory, and it's so nice discovering and laughing about them with each other...the creepily faced star was my parents', and there are still notes & chocolate wrappers inside from my childhood!

     photo tree11_zpst5twtfpq.jpg

There is nothing more exciting than putting the tree up for us

     photo tree9_zpslayrmgjg.jpg

Once the tree was up we had some tree-shaped nachos (thanks mum!) and watched a festive movie...yay Christmas!
    :)

And then yesterday my parents sent us something amazing in the post and...WE HAD OUR OWN REINDEER! :rolling:

     photo 5mnthreindeer_zpsorgtapos.jpg

I thought it would take me a week or so to get him comfortable with wearing it, but Rey's a confident little dude and he was wearing it in under thirty seconds

    Adorable and very festive!

Christmas photo shoot!! Rey needed a little help holding his stay with me at a distance :tooth:

     photo xmaspic6_zpsz1whys45.jpg
The adult dogs were eeeaaasy to snap with the tree in the background :)

     photo xmaspic4_zpsadh8jkka.jpg

We've moved some of the pen around now though as the crate is blocking it anyway, meaning you can see the tree even more clearly...we're probably going to attempt another shoot soon so I'll post any additional photos here ^__^

    And advent fun

Santa dropped off a box full of pet presents today haha, so with all that AND the fact we're celebrating Christmas with my parents & Nana tomorrow...I've done A LOT of wrapping!

I'm having rather a wierd Christmas.
Motor biker Grand daughter Gee was driven into on Wednesday (car has been charged with something bad driving). Bike a write off, yes, another one! She has a mashed up wrist among other smaller injuries. So her parents spent all Christmas days at Prreston Infirmary 70 miles away. I was on cat sitting duties.
So Christmas has been postponed for us. Never been all alone on C day before.
Later I realised that my C mas dinner was a cheese sandwich!
    All together "Aawwwww"

However, may I wish all the Hencammers a wonderful holiday and I hope Santa brought what you asked for.
    I'll catch up later.

Ollie we've had a screwed up Christmas here too. My daughter has been in Arizona since the last of November taking care of her Mother-in-Law, so this is the first time in 48yrs that she hasn't been with me for Christmas. Don was here, but he has about as much Christmas sprite as dead frog. Talk about a blue Christmas. :face-sad:

I'm so glad that your granddaughter wasn't hurt any worse than she was and hope she will make a speedy recovery.:face-smile:

Thanks Kate! Prim's really adorable...you can tell from looking at him he's getting on a bit now, and he leaves some of his food in the bowl instead of hiding it all away, but he's still as active and sweet as ever. Syrians tend to live around 18 months to 2.5 years, so a little longer than rats. Dwarf hamsters tend to live longer than Syrians.

I didn't even put up my tree up this year, since my kid wasn't here, we had our "Christmas" on Dec. 30th. Keeper of the hens

We celebrated Christmas with the boys yesterday. Our plan was to buy them extra gifts in, but we have no money so it had to be put on hold...when my parents came to visit yesterday, included in our bonus gifts was money (yay!), so we bought extras and my dad bought Kasper a toy too!

After the meal where we swapped mini presents (I'll post the FANTASTIC thing we bought my dad below :rolling: ) we came home and Kasper & Rey opened their presents

    Here's my dad's:

     photo christmas_zps1nsjt6gj.jpg

IT'S A CHICKEN RUSSIAN DOLL!! So the smallest 'doll' is a white egg, the size up is an egg cracking, the one after that is a cracked egg with a chick peeking through etc etc

     photo christmas1_zpsdlddcrey.jpg
And here is Raiden's first Christmas - pre-present belly rubs! :heartsabove:

     photo christmas2_zpssvyfzpm1.jpg

Safe to say, he didn't need any help unwrapping ;)

     photo christmas4_zpsvoyfbxpb.jpg

We bought this present in October, and it was the same size as Raiden when we bought it!

     photo christmas5_zpsm1smukne.jpg
He loved his first xmas :)

     photo christmas8_zpsl4mz2r1b.jpg

After Raiden had chance to open and play with his gifts, we swapped the pooches and Kasper got to open his

     photo christmas24_zpssbige3i8.jpg

He loved this little penguin we bought him to destroy, but my god did he destroy it!

    Look at the fury :tooth:

     photo christmas26_zps6clwpg3j.jpg

And my dad bought him these - he loved gnawing through the rope and turning one dog toy into four! :rolling:

     photo christmas34_zps6nmuq9vu.jpg

Thanks Kate, yes it was real - years ago we used to have real trees but bought a fake one in the sale after Xmas half price which lasted us for maybe 10 years! Helen wanted a real one this year (hoping it didn't set her asthma off), but annoyingly we'd forgotten the foibles of real trees - in a couple of days in our house the branches had sagged - so I had to fill up the water reservoir in the base and turn the heating down and secure the more fragile glass baubles on with wire...

Lynn, we're only half way up that hill :) I'll try and get some pics to show the layout, it will give you a better idea. It must be quite steep as we have three floors to the back and only 2 visible at the front! We're very lucky to have a view across St Ives estate and Bingley and beyond...

CC, I think the hen bauble was from Ikea years ago! No, I've been corrected, it was a present from my sis! (sorry, sis!)

I'm loving the egg Russian doll, I keep giving it pride of place on Helen's fancy display cabinet and she eyes it and tells me off every time she spots it!

Erm, kind of, the front door leads into the entrance where you can go straight forwards up the stairs or left into the living room... Through the living room is the study and staircase leading down to the lower level where the kitchen is... There is a three-floor extension to the rear of the house so that's why it's bigger than the small cottage it appears to be at first glance (luckily built by the previous owners, although they did have a habit of bodging!)

My mum's house (now my brother's) is split level. Looks like a bungalow from the front but is two stories at the back. She went through no end of window cleaners who offered to clean her windows for a fiver...then went round the back and never called again... A cub on bob-a-job once asked if their house went underground as he could see the stairs going down from the hall.
