We went to visit little Minnie again yesterday and she is doing well and they said she should be able to come home with us Wednesday. She so wanted to come home with us there and then, and was marking us, cuddling, purring the whole time we were there. It was so good that she recognised us and wants to be with us.

Well Minnie is home with us now and is settling in so well. She hisses at Sootz but being the gentleman he is he just walks away and ignores her. She has checked all of downstairs out, and is into every thing just like you said CC. She keeps coming back to either myself ot G/N for a snuggle every ten minutes she is a proper little fuss pot.

Yes we are keeping her name Kate it suits her so well and she is a tiny little cat for three years old. She was abandoned in a flat along with several other cats and not discovered until workmen went in to tidy the flat ready for re-rental. They were in a sorry state and had got cat flu. She is fine now and the rash has cleared up a treat. The lady at the centre was so surprised as she took the cat carrier in the cage and Minnie was straight down and into it sitting in there as cool as a cucumber just waiting to come home.

Oh she is very sweet! She does look a tiny thing, but will be a little firebrand when it comes to Sootz! The girls are always in charge. I think she's a perfect match - you and the rehoming centre did well. Look forward to seeing more pictures of her as she settles in - hope her and Sootz can become friends.

NN,Nelly (the kitten Lyle's parents adopted from the rescue we volunteered at) was always REALLY small, kitten sized even when fully grown, yet she was an incredible hunter - she brought down seagulls easily 4x her size!!!

No need for tedious introductions with Sootz he is such a gentle cat, She hisses.... he walks away Simples !!! They sniff noses now and then but he must seem like a giant to her. She is settling in really well and just like a typical three year old we got toys all over the place !! She now comes to her name and knows a few little words like up and memeats..... Memeats is wet food We havent done prawnies or treeets yet as she eating fit to bust clearing her own plate and finishing anything Sootz leaves. Sootz is a very talkative cat and talks to her she listens but doesnt cower or show fear. He used to talk to Daisy just the same so I think he is more than happy with her. I am just so glad her little face appealed to me when I saw her on the C/P page. G/N is totally head over heel in love with her and says getting her is the bestest thing ever.

I love that picture also Red look at her little bent whisker it makes her look so cute. It has snapped off now and the stubbley bit dont half dig into you when she rubs her head on your head or neck !!!She was sat on the coffee table waiting for me to take her picture looking up with such love and trust. Its amazing what these small cats can catch. My son Dan's cat used to catch huge rabbits how the heck it ever got them through the cat flap was beyond us. It always used to take them under his bed and it was nothing for him to open the curtains and a big wood pigeon or rabbit to come staggering out all wet ruffled and dazed. Cat fast asleep on the bottom of the bed, worn out from its night of fun.

Maine Coons are very gentle and do seem to like company. He's a very special boy. I am always amazed at how owners and cats come together at rehoming centres. She is such a good match for you and I'm so pleased at how quickly she's settling. Don't forget to let the centre know how she's getting on - we love getting updates so I'm sure Nottingham will too!

That's so good of you NN. We received an envelope a few weeks ago with about 50 catnip mice in, so we decided to give them to the cats in the homing corridor. It was great going from pen to pen giving each cat a new toy rather than one that's been through the washing machine too many times to count. They had something to inspire them to play.

She really is at home - teaching GN how to use the computer already!!!

She was unsure about her CC I dont think she had ever seen a hen before and Chewy can give a right scary old stare when she wants to. She didnt expect to come face to face with her coming out of the summer house thats for sure. She is fine about her now as Chewy just ignores her like Sootz does, and she is more than happy with that. I will say though that when Chewy first saw her she started her warning to others clucking until she knew who she was. She dont care for other cats in the garden very much.

We had to take Minnie to the vets as she has a flea allergy Poor little girl. Sad thing was we couldnt give her the medication until all the frontline had its four week run. She was covered in bites and was so sad she started to lick herself until her fur was virtually see through to the skin. Then she started to lick the walls its been such a stressful time for all of us with her as there was totally nothing we could do. Luckily she has been eating well and drinking plenty. We have kept her indoors since we found all this out and were so relieved when we could apply the medication. She has bounced back and is so much happier and we have almost groomed out all of the scabs, we could only do a few at a time as we had to be careful of her skin. The wall licking has stopped and she is her usual adorable self again but I think we might have to keep her just as an indoor cat

Hi NN - poor Minnie, it must be so miserable having an allergy like that. I found the best thing for fleas is a Dyson! They pick fleas up from either other cats or the crevices in the carpet - they will lie dormant until a suitable host arrives but Dysons are great at getting any dormant ones or eggs. Being longhair makes it so much worse for her doesn't it - the fleas can avoid a flea comb so much easier. I have a fantastic close toothed comb that I use if I spot the first signs of fleas before I treat, but my lot aren't allergic. Frontline isn't as good as it used to be - the fleas seem to have built up an allergy. Maybe your vet could suggest something else?

She is lucky you adopted her - a lot of people would be returning her. Did she show any signs of the allergy in the centre?

Hi Kate yes we did take her to the vets as soon as we realised and she has prescribed something that we have to put on her neck once a month it is only available from the vets and helps to deter any fleas from coming on her. Sootz dont seem to get many fleas as a rule and he is long hair also. I have a feeling they may have been fox fleas and the fox has been visiting more than we have realised as just this past month Sootz has been a bit bothered by them jumping and twitching wih is unusual. I have vey few mats or is the word rugs nowadays as we have laminate flooring so easy to wash and yes the dyson is really good we do have one. We just recently bought new rugs and I wash the cats bedding once a week so all we can put it down to is that she hasnt been an outside cat as ahe was found in a flat and is more than happy to stay in. Hopefully as the weather gets colder I can get her out again and she will build up a bit of immunity. No sign of anything when we got her she just seemed to have a rather thin harsh coat, which improved really quickly and became soft and silky.

The thin coat could mean she had it before - glad it's nice and silky now, she's such a pretty girl! I was always told that fleas were breed specific - cat, dog, fox, hedgehog, human! - but I don't know if there's evidence around it. Doesn't stop them biting either - first sign of cat fleas in this house is red lumps on hubby's legs!!

    Keeper of the hens

Beautiful pics NN, only just seeing them :)

NN have a look at 'Billy No Mates' (by CSJ), it's a natural flea and tick product that we're currently testing...no idea if it's any good yet but the dogs LOVE the taste?!?!

I'm sure she could be very happy as an indoor cat if that's what you decide. Enzo recently made it onto the highest shelf and thus the top of the cat crates!! It's taken him a month and even Pecan (who's a real climber) hasn't ventured up, but Enzo loooves it up there now

Thanks for the tip Red will certainly have a look I do like the natural remidies if I can use them. Cat love to be higher than each other It seems to give them that top cat feeling. Sootz dont do high anymore other than the back of the settee just as well as he often falls off when he is fast asleep.

just to do a quick Minnie update. Well she is outside again now and doesnt seem to be any worse off for it so far. She wasnt particularly bothered about going out until last week and then as G/N was doddering out she shot out and ran down the summer house to be with myself and Mallory. He was upset about it but I said dont worry we will see how it goes. Mallory and Minnie are very good friends and I have been told that she now has a brother Sootz and a baby sister Minnie!!!

His name at the cats protection is Robin but we decided we will call him Mickey when he comes home. He has really elegant legs Kate so neat and dainty. Of course when he is settled I will get more pictures for you. He doesnt like being in the shelter and is very nervous but after a little while came out of his box and had a super fuss and even allowed me to pick him up for a cuddle. He is five years old and a domestic short hair. His previous owner couldnt cope financially as she had fourteen cats all together. Apparently he has never been outside and is good with other cats. Hopefully he will really begin to thrive in a quieter home with more attention. I got Mallory to work on G/N ha ha... we did want a cat called Oati but she fought other cats so we couldnt have her as beautiful as she was. When I found out we couldnt have Oati I was prepared to come away and go back another day But by then G/N wanted to see them all !! We had some wonderful help from a very nice lad who introduced us to Robin and another little cat I forget its name it was also scared but refused to interact so Robin won the day for us. Coming home G/N said I feel so happy giving another little one the chance of a nice happy home xx

It's easier to intro a male - the females always want to be in charge, and coming from a multi-cat household he'll enjoy having the company of just Sootz and Minnie (rather than so many others) I'm sure. He doesn't look like a Robin at all, Mickey is much better.

I'm glad you gave him the time to show you his personality-it's difficult for them in the Rehoming centre sometimes, and GN is so sweet, what a lovely thing to say! Mallory is such a good girl. Is he from the same centre as Minnie?

Luckily we are only about ten to fifteen minutes away from the Cats Protection and traffic was kind, We brought the carrier in and he was still in a state of distress which alerted Minnie and Sootz. Sootz came to see straight away and after a reassuring sniff and kiss through the carrier door made room for Minnie to have her look see. She hissed and then had her sniff and decided that she had best rush upstairs and guard the bed at all costs. Sootz was more interested in getting outside to guard it from the squirrel he encountered and cuffed round the ear earlier this morning, We decided just to open the carrier door as every one seemed so positive and Mickey came out and gave G/N the most tremendous fuss and purred his little heart out. G/N introduced him to the litter tray and offered him food and water. He then sat in his chair and little Mickey cuddled up beside him. Minnie has been down and has been very polite but made sure she marked her downstairs bed thoroughly. Sootz came in and said hello, he is such a gentle cat Bless him. Now Mickey is fast asleep in G/N chair, not bad as he has only been her two hours. I am just hoping every thing keeps as smooth. I will take pictures as soon as he is fully comfortable and settled

That's fantastic news NN! Sootz is such a wonderful boy - MaineCoon cats are known to be gentle. Minnie may be more of a challenge, but fingers crossed she'll be a good girl. He seems to be finding reassurance in GN at the moment.

Poor little Micky he is such a frightened little boy and spends most of hs time in the under bed draw, He will take his time to come round. He does love his fuss and is bonding with G/N quite nicely. He isnt that sure of me so I am keeping back for the time being till he can feel comfortable in his new surroundings, He does accept treats from me now and then if he is on G/N lap. Sootz and Minnie are being so kind and sweet to him no hissing or awkwardness. Soots talks gently to him and then moves away, Micky does respond to this and will start to follow him then thinks better of it and hides as if he has done something wrong poor little chap it is so sad. Its early days yet and it will take time but I am sure he will soon be happier. He is using the litter tray and eating well, and has a fantastic explore during the night, The safety light on the landing was going on and off like a belisha beacon last night !!!

Well fingers crossed we have had a remarkable break through with Mickey this afternoon, G/N brought him downstairs to give him his lunch which he wolfed down and then walked straight past Sootz to have a poo in the litter tray. I nipped over to the door to upstairs and closed it. Micky was a bit annoyed about this and sculked about bleating about how it wasnt fair for ten minutes. I got up to reopen the door and Micky came over to me wanting a fuss so I left the door fussed him and he jumped up on G/N lap for the afternoon, only getting off to have his evening meal. I reopened the stairs door at this point and Micky just jumped up into G/N chair and settled down. Meanwhile our meal was cooked and we decided to slum it instead of sitting at the table we had a tray in front of telly. Well little Mickey;s nose was twitching and wrinkling and he hoped out of chair and trotted over to G/N who was relegated to the other chair Mickey tail was straight up in the air legs stretched out for the first time since he has been here... all the rest of the time it has been dragging on the floor. He does like a home cooked chicken dinner and even came to me for some which pleased me no end as I called to him using his name and he trotted straight over. He still has made no move to going upstairs and seems very happy so lets hope we are over the worst with him

He's lovely, and that's such a breakthrough! It can take a few days/weeks for cat's to settle, and the patient owners end up with a fantastic cat. Sootz is a real sweetie-I hope they can be friends. GN lost his chair now?!

He sure was after a bite of G/N's roast chicken CC. Jay came today and said he looks like he got a bit of oriental cat in him, I will try and get more pictures real soon. He ( Mikey) has been up and down stairs on and off all day by himself with no cajoling. All cats are more than happy with each other, Minnie is fascinated by him and he is flattered by her attention. Sootz is just happy that every one is happy!!! So nice Mickey wasnt fazed by some one different in the house and accepted fuss from Jay as if he had always known him. Jay also said he looks a lot younger than five. How do they age them Kate? is it by the state of their teeth ?

Thank you Lynn and yes he is settling in really well now. He still gets a little bit nervous when we are walking around but is even getting used to that, He is more than happy to be downstairs now even after I told him off for scabbing one of the seats. Every one is getting along just fine so a massive corner turned Kate so glad we gave him a chance xx

So Mickey got told of for scabbing the armchair. We had bought a new pole type scratcher that non of them would use. Hmm I thought what would be best way to encourage its use. Minnie was playing with the cat nip mice she had them all out. An idea sprang into my mind pole in middle of them cat nip round base and a mouse dangled from top of pole. She thought it was the best idea since dried cat nip

I don't think I've ever heard of a better integration! I suspect that's down to Sootz being so calm and laid back.
My lot will ignore a new scratching post for weeks. I always buy tall ones so that they can have a good stretch.

No worries CC you want more just say they are so easy to make. I made loads but my cats kept nicking them and sucking the heads so they wouldn't be sent out Little beggers they got eighteen if not more now. I had to start putting them in a draw as soon as I had finished them so I could save you guys some. Why she is after your pills? I've no idea it isnt as if cats have a problem nodding off is it. They must smell lovely is the tea scented like the jasmine one is ?

Cats love valerian, it's more potent than catnip and is often used in cat toys but shouldn't be given to under 12month olds (don't know why).
He is so adorable. I hope you've sent the rehoming centre an update - it's one of the best things, hearing that a cat you've cared for is happy, settled, and loved, especially if they were a bit shy or a long stay etc.
He photos really well, it's almost as though he's looking at me! He must look at just the right point on the lens.

She has stopped doing it now she knows how to ask for food. I sent photos and a message as to how Mickey is getting on this afternoon Kate xx G/N also posted off your micers

Bit of a mystery with Mickey I have a feeling he might be Bengal or a Bengal cross he is so vocal with such a range of different sounds, it dont matter what he is doing he had to talk about it. Also He is very agile and can spring about like crazy with those slender long back legs of his. I looked at Bengals on U tube and listened to them also.

LOL!! He's really developing a personality. Bengals can become attached to one person and 'protect' them. I must say though my Tabby is like that too-throws herself around, bounces all over the place with toy mice, and is a good hunter! She shouts at us when she wants something too.

We have been getting a big fat wood pigeon come to every day to get the little birds food. It takes great delight in teasing the cats as it knows they can not reach it. I was at the sink the other day and saw Minnie creep up on it very obviously and smiled to myself thinking poor little mite she hasnt got a clue. The woody puffed itself up and was looking down at her with such a smirk on its beak she stood up on her hind legs the smacked at the air and the woody lazily took off as it did so Micky leaped up out of the long grass and almost had it. Micky and Minnie touched noses and he went back to the long grass and she sat over by the pond. I swear blind they were working together to get it.
Part Two...... G/N and I were putting up another gazebo next to Mallorys paddling pool one and there was a right commotion behind us I managed to turn enough to see Micky land on the pigeons back and bring it to the ground while it was in flight. It looked just like Mickey had sprouted wings Minnie was there and tried to help hold it down but it somehow found the strength and managed to shake them both off and escape. I am totally sure now that they were working together. Ive not seen the woody since so it must have totally scared the stuffing out of it. Amazing work from two unrelated rescue cats that hadnt been outside before I adopted them.

Blimey, what teamwork! Sounds as though you need to look out your pigeon pie recipe... :D
Tuppence can't be bothered with them, but Rocky makes it her business to chase off the wood pigeons. Couldn't find Tuppence just now (I worry about them in this horrible weather) but was aware of being watched. Finally found her curled up in an enormous upside down glass lampshade which we mounted in a frame as a holder for a three wick candle, looking at me.

Ha ha she is funny mine are as bad especially come night time when they have to come in, I usually have to Lamp Sootz but he got crafty and realised not to look at the lamp so I have to make weird and wonderful noises to get him curious enough to look my way. Micky is the awkward one now as he sods off over the fence so we just have to make sure we havent overfed him come the evening then frantically flap a pouch of cat meat. Sootz and Minnie never go over the fence which is a huge relief as both of them are daft enough to go off with any one.

Those cats are having such a lovely life with you after a bad start in life. I believe they are working together - a proper little 'pride' you've got there!

Mine have been staying out all night in this hot weather, but appear to be taking it in turns for one cat to stay in to wake us up. Sunday night Ting Tong stayed in and woke me by tapping my face at 5.30. Monday night it was Tabby's turn-she was howling in the hall at 5am with her favourite toy mouse in her mouth. Wonder who it'll be tonight ...!
