Well, its nice to see that the girls have been bitten by the footballing bug. The black one was just flapping her wings and the ball shot out of camera range. Maybe she is the goalie. My hens have a football in their hut and the seem to like it. Maybe we should set up a match...3 a side... I will go and pick a squad and set a game up!! (Virtual of course)
    Henporium United V Hencam Villa
    OK, I am back now..
Playing for me I will have Ginger Winger Sylvia on LEFT WING(har har)and defence , Silver Girl in goal (cos shes the fattest!) and on attack its gotta be Ginny Guinea (She's scary) keep outta her way, she's like the Vinnie Jones of the footballing /Guinea world!

    Excellent game, great commentary!

I think its gone into the garden next door where the grumpy old man lives. He'll stick a knife in it if he finds it - we need Red to climb over and get it back. (Unless the little boy who lost it has come back and demanded its return!)

Lets call it half time - oranges please!

I think Penny's up for the 2nd half - she's scratching around waiting to hoof it off the centre spot. Milly's up front waiting for a pass. All they need is the ball!

er, no ta neil, prefer hen football its more thrilling and real.

Ref blows the whistle, milly to tilly, oooh, loses it in tackle to silver girl (nice footwork Sil) she passes to Ginny who's on side, penny comes up for a tackle ooh gets the ball. Ginny is running round like a numpty, she's angry now, goes in for an attack, oh that squawk could be heard all over the pitch. gets the ball back, passes to Sil who dribbles the ball back to Ginny, round Tilly, she shoots she scooooooores! 2-0 to Henporium United. Now that Sil is one hell of a fancy footer! Her egg's'll be in demand next season!

Aaaagh someone has put the foodbowl on the floor and now it's full of dirt and needs washing again...oh well, their dirt needs turning over anyway so i'll go do that while it's sunny...

Cake, Milly was flying down off the ladder the other day and she accidentally landed on the football...the football flew sideways and hit the coop wall, and all three girls were panicking and flapping round the coop. It was very funny :)

Oh that would've been cool to see Red. Tilly just jumped down near the ball but missed it completely. The other two are still on half time at the back by the looks of it. Sounds like some fast moving cars near there today. I have just been out to my paddock and lots of the girls are bathing its so lovely and sunny. Stretching their legs and wings out. Limbering up for the 2nd half I reckon!!
Some of my new girlies have started laying at last and the eggs are so divine. Really golden yolks. The bishop says they look like silicon implants in the frying pan as they are so fresh (compare them to a battery egg which goes all over the pan when you break it!)
I will hopefully be able to start distributing them amongst my friends again soon if this lovely weather keeps up and I get more eggs.

Ginny has invited her mates to play today by the looks of it. They are a rowdy lot those Guinea Fowl! 5 of her friends have flown into the paddock from the lakeside to enjoy the sunshine and corn on tap!
Dont think they will be sleeping over though, they prefer the trees and Ginny goes in with the girls and Hal at bedtime.

    Haha Cake!

The hens like sitting on the plant pots (at least that's what we thought!) - I've seen Tilly stood on one but it doesn't happen that often!

I have momentous news regarding Cullingworth Athletic - they WON THEIR FIRST LEAGUE GAME!

We're just gutted we couldn't be there (we were visiting my sister in Newcastle as it was her twin's birthday)

    Keeper of the hens

The plant pots are used as perches. Penny enjoys standing on them and peering round the garden, and Milly uses them as an escape from Tilly's vicious beak...I've never actually seen Tilly on the plant pots, my dad might have mistaken her for Penny...poor old Tilly finds it difficult to navigate how high she has to jump up to get on the plant pot, and usually just doesn't bother :P

CAKE, I'VE PLAYED THAT GAME WITH MILLY BEFORE - I actually have! I put a grape under one of two plastic cups (they weren't see-through) then swapped them round and Milly had to knock over the right one. She was perfect i was really impressed - y'all think i'm crazy now?!

    har har OLI, good one!
RED, they have amazing eyesight dont they and are quite clever (but only in a dum way!)
I remember the study done on hens' eyesight where they made them wear goggles that put every image off by 45 degrees. the hens were then left to try and work out the difference from where they saw the feed and where it actually was. The bad news was that they couldnt adjust at all and most wuldve starved to death. Weird eh? Like the goggles that make the world seem upside down. We are capable after a while to adjusting to this and can function as normal after a settling in period but hens? No.
But gambling skills they all have. wick or what?

We have a swan here on our lake, a boy swan. He has just mated with a goose!! What shall we call the babies of that union? A swoose, or a gwan? cool. Had a pheasant mate with a hen once and they hatched ok. Called them phens but they were very pheasant like and so small that they fit thru the mesh on the hut and escaped never to appear again, so could still be out there on the old range somewhere.
