No crack, just a piece of detroitous.
Chick seems reluctant, taking a long time, though maybe eagles take it slower than perigrines.

Derby perigrines site has a diagram showing five cams, one will have viewer control.
They are asking if anyone uses the time delayed cam that has one shot every few seconds.

Thanks for the update Ollie I am not sure that the other egg will hatch.... I just hope I am proved wrong. It looks like we are in for a real treat this coming spring/summer with the new work they are doing at Derby. New nesting platform and better camera system fantastic work. Yes Kate mine will watch it especially if the sound is on.

Try this new link we found for the eagles there are more cameras and recent news on birds also to be had there. Apparently egg wont hatch now sad but nice to know about. Info bar running along the top of the site tells you who is currently sitting on nest and the times of their change overs and much more, also helpful info at bottom of page saying how to recognize the each bird which is very helpful

Just watched both parents feeding the baby! So cute and interesting to watch how first one then the other would offer food, and then the baby seemed to prefer the one food type to the other but the other parent tried to position themselves better to make sure the baby could see what was offered. Beautiful and magnificent.

I saw from the chat that the parents have built up the sides to create a sort of guard with all the sticks and as the chick it bottom heavy it will have a real job to climb up to the top of the sticks.

E9 is just over 3 weeks old, is growing at a fast pace, is over a foot tall and nearing 4 pounds. Appearance is changing quickly now that E9 is covered with thermal down to help regulate body temperature. Pin feathers are starting to sprout on the tips of growing wings that E9 practices flapping. Pinched this from the Blog just for the info

It's accidentally fledged! It jumped from the nest to a branch where it flapped its huge wings for a while, and when it jumped back to the nest it didn't quite make it and the edge of the nest wasn't firm enough to hold the bird's weight. It glided down to the pasture across the road. Mom and dad are keeping an eye on it - hope it can get back up to the nest, but seems unlikely just yet. They're heavy birds and it's wings aren't quite strong enough. Hope it's OK and can survive this.

I think they fly off with the adults and learn to hunt, once they have fledged. I don't think this little one knows how to fly well enough to hunt on it's own yet. I'm glad it's alright.
