    Keeper of the hens

Last weekend I went out for 4-5 hours each day :gasp:

This is something we never normally do as my body needs to rest after each outing, so if we do anything we'll plan a recovery day following it...whilst it was a big mistake, I don't exactly regret that I had a nice weekend, it's just the fallout has just been awful  I haven't been able to do anything this week...I tried to go on a short dog walk (/wheel) yesterday after 3 days of bed rest, but it still ended badly & involved Lyle dropping the dog off then coming back to rescue me :tooth:

But what a weekend! On Saturday my parents came up, & we visited the castle again. My parents had never been before so it was a beautiful place to explore, & my dad opened his father's day gifts there which only added to the experience of course :rolling:

Afterwards we also went to the farm shop (which they'd weirdly been to before!!) & got raw milk from the machine. We bought one of the huge glass bottles to collect the milk in, from the highest shelf in the vending machine, purely to see if it would smash...None of us could believe it made it down unscathed, bouncing and clanking off everything on the way down :rolling:

And on Sunday me & Lyle went to the kite festival! We were able to get a lift in & a taxi back to minimise the amount of wheeling/time out for me, & the weather was perfect...not too hot like it has been the last few days

Wow so happy you have been able to get out and about Red, This weather is not helping I have been so hot and uncomfortable for days now and haven't done hardly a thing for the past few days as I ache so much and feel downright worn out and annoyed at myself for feeling so useless. So its not just you. I am sure we will all feel a lot better when it cools down. Beautiful pictures as usual Red I took some of my garden I keep meaning to post. where is the castle that you visit its the sort of place we love to go to. My that ice cream looks tasty I have changed my mind about our pudding tonight after seeing that we were going to have raspberries and cream but I will be having raspberries and ice cream ha ha I am still feeling full from our meal at the moment though

The kite festival looks amazing!! Hope you're feeling a little better now - sometimes it is worth pushing yourself so that you can experience some good memories even though you feel so awful for a few days afterwards.

It's a shame that we finally get some hot weather and none of us can cope with it!! The cats are loving having the door open most of the day, though I do have to keep closing it when next door's kids come out and start playing football. I'm getting better with hearing it - my anxiety doesn't spike as much as it used to - but I can't hear the TV over the noise and it spoils what should be a nice peaceful existence. I don't mind a day out every now and then, but think I should be able to enjoy my home in peace.

I love a nice castle - is it a ruin or has it been preserved?

NN, let me look up how to spell it, it's such a mouthful!! :rolling: Ah actually it's not that bad: Sizergh Castle  The farm shop in a gorgeous courtyard is a short drive down the road (: I'm still struggling in this flipping weather - finally 'better' after the double day weekend haha so am managing a short dog walk a day, but I'm ready for this heat wave to be over!!! And I couldn't manage my ice cream, so yes Lyle had 1.75 I've creams :rolling:

I'm still recovering from it Kate, but almost back to my usual. I would've bounced back in less than a week if it hadn't been for this flipping heat wave, but it drives my POTS crazy!! Someone has started leaving their dog out all day near us (not even that near us, like a few streets away), I think they think it's 'kind' not to leave the dog shut indoors & there is shade in the garden, but the poor thing barks non-stop...I feel sorry for it, but it's also incredibly annoying & I wish it would quiet!! :rolling:

Thanks Red I will put the castle down on our to visit list, Our Neighbours got a rescue dog some time back and they both worked full time. This poor dog cried and howled all day and nearly sent us crazy you could hear it running from room to room desperate for company for eight plus hours a day. When we told them the dog was destressed and suffering from anxiety when they were out they didn't believe us and got really nasty even though we did offer to help in any way. Needless to say nothing was done so we spoke to them again and said we were going to get environmental people out as we were concerned for the dog and our own sanity. They got really horrible but did put a camera in to see for themselves and I think it shocked them but they took over a year to speak to us afterwards and only just apologised about four months back. Thankfully the dog is settled now although they can not do anything with it such a shame when it could be trained so easily, there are always classes offered at the vets near us. Now blow me down, a couple across the road from us got a huge dog and its vicious..... again its left alone all day going round and round in the window bay, tearing down the blinds and curtains. My friend who lives next to them dare not say a word and just goes out when she can not stand it any more. Poor Dog I do wish people would be more responsible not just for other people but to give their dogs a nice happy life.

    Keeper of the hens

Separation anxiety is so incredibly hard to treat properly too. We still get updates from Zoey's owners, and with 3 years of constant training, she can successfully be left for 45 minutes now...we were so incredibly lucky to find a family who loved the breed & had experience of dogs needing 24/7 companionship, due to their last SBT's health condition...and who were willing to put the time into snail's pace training!! But oh man...

A lot of the time SA can just be due to upheaval (new family, new home) or under stimulation (physical or, more often, mental)...but when it's legitimate separation anxiety it's awful for the dog, owners & the neighbours!!!

People seem to think they can pick up and drop a dog on a whim and it'll just sit there and wait 8 or 10 hours for them to come home. If that's what they want, get a cat! They'll sleep the day away if they're anything like mine! My neighbours have 3 dogs. They will bark their heads off at people/dogs going past the back fence, or when they're going out for a walk and get excited, but never bark in the house on their own. Someone has reported them for noise though and they had someone (council? RSPCA?) out to 'warn' them. When my friend's dog got old it started to suffer from SA, and would tear up the house. She set the garage up for it - bed, food, radio, window, blankets, toys - someone reported her to the RSPCA because it howled. They were quite happy with what she was doing for it. Longest it was ever alone was 3 hours. It broke her heart that it was like that, but she loved it and tried her best. The sad thing was it started digging its way out of the garden under the fence every chance it got, but one day it didn't come back and they never found out what happened.
