This isn't a forum tweak comment; just question about a future possibility for hencam.

The coop looks one dimensional through the eye of the cam. Its hard to tell what it really looks like. What about a view of the coop in photosynth? http://labs.live.com/photosynth/

    Keeper of the hens

I think it would be quite difficult to take enough photos as you can't really get far enough away to get a good inside shot, but I'll try sort something out...

If it worked it would be cool & hilarious all at once - don't you think? :-) Seeing as the example they use at the moment is a catherdral...

Thanks for bringing this thread back Luke. I'd still really love to see this. Any ideas how he could do it?

I've made a couple of virtual items on Google Sketchup, basically you can create photorealistic models for Google Earth. It'd be great if Neil managed to model the coop actually in it's real coordinates on google earth, then we could all download it! :D

Does Sketchup cost $$$ ? (I went to the link -thanks for that- but don't have time to explore at this very minute...)

Diane reminded me of google sketchup, I've not been on it for a while so I had a play around and made this:

    (The Coop)

It's nothing spectacular, I just wanted to demonstrate what sketchup can achieve, this could then be uploaded into google earth.

The sleeping quarters always confuse me - it looks like the perch is off the floor, but how far? Is it inches or could they actually go underneath them?

Yes, I always wonder about that. Particularly when they seem to to holding on by one foot. And where is the part where the chicks where?

    Keeper of the hens

You go up the ladder into the coop and, about a foot from the ground, are the perches. There are several of them, and the end two lead to the nesting box - the bit where the girls sometimes sleep at night. Eva, who had never seen perches before in her life, used to sleep on the floor of the sleeping quarters, underneath the perches but still as close to the other chucks as she could get :)

The chicks brooder coop was half of the rabbit hutch that had been removed. That was at the side of the chicken coop, but not actually attached...I hope all that makes sense!

It does make sense and makes me want to see a sketchup of it all even more. LOL.

Eva; everything about her was just so dear.

Eva was gone by the time I found Hencam. I was telling my sis-in-law what a terribly short life-span they have even if they escape the factory farming. Poor things. I realised today that my husband buys barn eggs - must get him to change it to free roaming. Still not ideal but hopefully a little better?

Are chickens in barns treated better than battery hens?
