I'm off to Zeke-sit for the weekend (back and forth between there and the apartment to take care of the cats).

I'll be on later, when most of you lot will be beddy-bys (sp?).

Welcome back NN, and happy belated birthday! Sorry it wasn't a good one. Its my hubby's birthday tomorrow. I went to buy a cake and they were all little girl ones, so I've got to bake one. I hate cooking!!

Hi Kate and thank you. Typical about the cake isn't it. Now if we were nearer you wouldnt have any problem as I would make one for you.
I had several baking orders last week, it does help with the old pension but I think if I have to make another peanut and chocolate cookie I will go mad Ha ha

I'm going to make his favourite - lemon drizzle cake. I just hope I have enough ingredients, otherwise it'll be a dash to the newly opened Asda! (Unless you fancy relocating to the midlands to save me the job?!)

Dammit!! I just looked on the map and realised that had I known where you lived earlier, instead of sending hubby and eldest to Sheffield today (to get eldest a new goalie helmet), I could've taken him and dropped in on the way to purchase a large cake from you! (well, order on the way there, collect on the way back!) LOL!!

Lynn...even I have made a lemon drizzle cake. (Pause for gasps of astonishment.) It was edible, too...
Preheat oven to 160-170 degrees. 6oz self raising flour
    6oz caster sugar
    4oz margarine
2 large eggs (so not from Livia, then)
    4 tablespoons of milk

Mix to a goo, bung in lined tin & cook for 50-60 mins. For lemon drizzle you bung in the zest of a lemon prior to cooking. Mix juice of lemon with caster sugar over heat to make syrup to pour over (and into, if you bore holes) cake.
(If you want a caraway cake instead of lemon, just chuck caraway seeds into the goo.)

    Impressed? I know I am...:drinkparty:

The one I made is soooo simple!
Heat oven to 180 degrees c. Grease and line a deep cake tin (can't remember the width) (I never line it, too lazy!)

    100g of butter
    100g of brown sugar
melt over a low heat then stir in
150g self raising flour, half a teaspoon of mixed spice, grated rind of large lemon, 2 large eggs.

    Cook for 30-35 mins.

Squeeze all the juice out of the lemon, mix with 75g of caster sugar. When cake comes out of oven pour it over the top. Leave to cool, turn it out. That's it!

Quantities are in grammes because that's what I weighed it in and can't remember the imperial quantities!

If you can't make one in a microwave, I guess I'm out of luck. Caster Sugar is 18 dollars a pound over here..I don't think I'll be making one any time soon. It would taste like a brick if I baked it anyway...I'm not joking about my awful cooking skills..just ask my Donald..thank goodness he has a cast iron stomach.

Good heavens above Lynn I just fell off the chair $18 a pound for castor sugar!!!!!!!!!
It is really cheap here in OZ.

I make my own sometimes, all you do is put ordinary white granulated sugar in the blender (or processor or whirly, grindy machine) and buzz it a bit, not too long or you will end up with icing sugar. It works for me.

I really think you should have a go. I would pop over and help if I wasnt so far away!!!:hiwave:

:blahblahblah: well I have been checking out the hencam for years, showing them to my rag tag bunch. Finally decided to join, give my girls a chance to chat and all. I have 9 hens and a roo all banties. Cheep is the welsummer and our old girl, she's still laying and looks fab for her age. Trigger is our little roo, black rock we believe, he is a rescue chook along with his hareem Molly [also black rock] Honey & Ginger [also nicknames Manky and Skanky by my OH] who are buff rocks. Ruby & Henrietta are the pekin/RiR crosses, Gracie is our first successful hatch and she is a blue laced wyandotte. Psycho, Mrs Polkadot and Irma are from a school in bristol that kept and hatched their own chooks, it was closed down last year and they needed new homes. We weren't sure about Irma when we first had her, she looked and acted like a young roo so was named Herman [get it?] and then she layed her first egg and settled into henlike behaviour. Psycho is named as on her first day she flew over the house, standard 1930's ex-council house, then visited all the neighbours garden and got the name psycho and got put in the detention centre [the run] 'til she calmed down a bit. They all free range in our backgarden, they have just had a new house built, absoloutley lush, I wouldn't mind living in it myself.

Well that's me, Kelle also known as viciouslittlething or kitten. [dependant on my mood :)]

    Welcome to the new folks.

I don't have any hens, just share of two Burmese cats with daughter, her hubby and their daughter - ever more refered to as G'daughter. Her name is Georgie and she is my grand daughter who I see an awful lot of and keeps me in a younger frame of mind. ie., keeps me away from the bingo freaks that I ought to be joining at my age (74).

I love this site as everyone is so very friendly and I am getting to like hens!

I am a grandmother with one lovely grand daughter who is 6, a Burmese cat who is nearly 18 and thinks he is a person and one husband who thinks he is still 18. I grew up surrounded by ducks and hens but no hens yet, am hoping for some next year.

Hello Duffy's wife. will be on that side of the pond in December, and will be driving from Chicago to Fort Worth...just for the heck of it and to visit a very dear friend.

    Hi Sara,

You are more than welcome to a (free!) car-sticker! :-) (as is everyone)

Email me your address and I'll pop one in the post for you, I'll need photographic evidence it's in your car though for all to see. :p

How big are the stickers, Neil? In a smart car, size matters...:)

Lol! not sure, probably about average car-sticker size.... actually maybe bigger, about 8" across by a couple of inches high, I have one in my car just below the bit where it would start to annoy me!

About twelve quid in Earth money. If you paid by Visa it'd do it automatically, probably.

Hi All. My 10 girls(Raven,Winnie,Woo,Avril,Daisy,Charlie,Mortica,Gomez,Fester and Cousin IT) and I have just joined. They are a motley crew of all different breeds(all eggs can be traced back to layer) who share their paddock with 3 x Alpacas (Moss, Bird & Richmond) The Alpacas are mainly decorative but also chase off the fox:fingerscrossed: and my cats:cat:. We recently moved house so I could expand my "zoo" as my husband calls it.

Welcome Woobird! Sweet husband - willing to move for the love of animals. There are some Alpacas up at the public farm in Greenbank (Whidbey Island, Washington, USA - Lynn is about ... 250 miles ? from me.) Anyway, the Alpacas are so expressive. They love our dogs and come running to see them. Couldn't care less about us humans.

Hi woobird! You have a great husband there - don't suppose he could give my hubby lessons about allowing more pets could he?! I've got 2 (elderly) cats and 2 rats. He said a big NO to chickens!
