Hi georgie what beautiful cats you have, Blue is sticking her tongue out at the camera !!! Brown has a lovely shiny coat. My cat Sootz likes dragging stuff about like Blue does. He takes things upstairs during the night to play with then rattles about in the bathroom with them. They all have their little ways just like us.

Sootz sleeps in the wash basin Georgie I have to warn people when they come to my house as he thinks he owns the bathroom and doesn't allow any one in there by them selves. He likes some water left in the bottom of the bath when it is hot so he can have a paddle

Hi LIlian, I seem to remember reading what you were saying about not being allowed to keep hens in Hong Kong. It is real nice you had some when you were younger so you know what delightful birds they are. We are having winter here now so it is cold, we have had more snow than we usually do. We have a nice sunny afternoon at the moment so that is a treat what is the weather like in Hong Kong? Do you have any pets ?
At the top of the page there is the google map directory. You will be able to see roughly where we live by the pins in the map. You can place a pin for yourself so we can see where you live if you would like to. You just place the pin as close to your house as you feel comfortable with.

    Hi Boohill, welcome to HenCam.
Please tell us a little about yourself. Do you have any hens? Not all of us do, we just like the calming of the hens.
At the top of the page is GoogleMapDirectory, have a look and see where we all are and add your pin in your area.
Enjoy HenCam, we're a friendly lot though have difficulty keeping on the subject at times.

Hi Boohill and welcome to hencam. No probs you are doing it right as far as I can see !!!!
I have a couple of hens that are just comming out of moult and they are laying very brittle shelled eggs at the moment and like yours have dropped them on the coop floor where they have broken. Hens love raw egg so will eat them if they can. It is a good idea to fill one with mustard and hope they don't like it very much. They tend to have a poor sense of taste though so it doesn't always work out.
The pot eggs are also a good idea as they dont like getting a blunt beak very much and usually think all eggs are as hard !!! It is trial and error. Just see how it goes but it sounds as you are doing a great job sorting it out.

Hi boohill, don't worry too much about eggs being droped, my three droped them anywhere when they first started laying, soft shelled and even shelless. They soon get the hang of it, try supplementing their diet with cottage cheese, apparently if hens start eating eggs it's a sign of a lack of calcium. Hens expend a lot of energy making eggs and a lot of calcium is used when they first start laying. I used natural yoghurt, cottage cheese and oyster grit and yes, even a cuttlefish bone used for budgies. Filling eggs with mustard doesn't always work, it might stop them eating it but won't stop them breaking the shell to see what is inside it. Just time and patience, it should only take a couple of weeks. You could also try a drop away egg box. Good luck and enjoy your girls.

i also had worries on the runny poo front but after reading through the threads, my mind is now at ease! I've also got one chicken laying very pale eggs with soft shells, going to keep an eye on it but great tips from Stuart on cottage cheese!

    Keeper of the hens

    :welcome: everyone.

Hi max, if you haven't already it would be helpful to start your own discussion (top left to start one) under the category Animal Welfare or Animal Care, and explain the problem in as much detail as you can. Stuff like age of the hen, breed, different behaviour, has she laid before etc would also be useful

Hmmm, my first thought was prolapse too. I'm really not certain what you're supposed to do with those (and I didn't bring my Chicken Bible home with me for Easter!!) - how is she doing now? A vets' appt would probably be a good idea.

    Good luck :bighug:

The book I had advised pushing it gently back in with a cotton bud with olive oil on it. But i think I'd rather a vet did it...I lost a chick with a prolapse last year.

    Hi fuchia.
    Welcome to our forum.
There are plenty of threads to help you out with your problems. Just shout if you can't find anything you need.
Our biggest problem here is that we don't keep on the subject title, mostly when we are going off at a tanjent and relating the latest events in our lives.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the wackiest and nicest forum you are ever likely to find.

You may have noticed that we chatter on about other random things too. Join in when you feel ready.

There is an interesting feature at the top of the page "GOOGLEMAPDIRECTORY" where you can see where we all live. You may fancy adding yourself onto this too.

. Ok, I'll start with a few bits. The biggest one thats upsetting me, is I can't pick up the girls, I've treid a few times, stooping down arms outstretched but I just can't do it, I'm afraid I'll grab and hurt, and I'll need to do so in order to check for mites etc!!!Also I'm so confused with food, I have a feeder, but wonder if I should do feeding the old fashioned way and sprinkle hand fulls morning and evening or let them feed away themselves and just make sure there's always food in there feeder. Also the actual feed! I'm feeding a mix, one looks like linseed or wheat and the other is like a powder. Well there's a few questions about the hens, also am I reply right by clicking on "quote"?

I don't know anything about keeping hens - I don't have any!! But I can answer the last point. You don't need to click quote unless you want to include part of someone else's post. Below the last message is a black bar with the number of posts and pages etc, and then a big box with "Enter your comments" above it. Just click in the box and type!

As for picking up the hens, you probably just have to be brave and go for it. One of the chicken keepers will be along soon and offer some real advice!

    Hey fuchia,

sorry nobody has answered your questions yet!

I've started a new thread with your questions in called 'new chicken-keeping questions' in the animal care section, just so more people will read and take notice of them.

Hi Ollie how are you? I was thinking of you while I was sweltering away watching the F1. That sure was some crash Webber had, made me scream out thank God he walked away from it.

Yeah, that was quite a spectacular dive of Webber's! Certainly made me shout out - which must have delighted the bunch next door who were reving up for that football match thing... They got their shouts of dismay a little later!

I watched the rest of the football after the race and was soon shouting away at the TV !!!! What a pathetic team it was embarrasing.
