    I keep thinking is morning for some reason. Maybe its the bath waiting for me. Anyway, the idea of bacon and liver makes me feel... Yurp.... Its very sunny here today, but we just had one of those sun laden rainstorms that happen sometimes. Really lovely. Since I'm not out in it.

    Talking about this world traveling (which I adore) Nancy needs to be careful if I come up on the lottery.
    Some years ago I spent a few days in Toronto staying with the brother of my best pal.
    I took a day trip to Niagara Falls. Absolutely hypnotic!
    I have at this very moment, alongside Hencam, a webcam showing The Falls.
    I watch it avidly. There is a 'Maid of Mist' boat ready to go and I can't wait to see that. My trip on her was what I can only describe as orgasmic!! (excuse me kids).

    Perhaps they've just registered in case they want to post. As for your jab, its a little bit of pain and discomfort but the benefits are worth it. I work in a Public Health Dept and its one of the best things you can do for your own health. And if you faint it'll give you something to laugh about when you're older. I fainted giving a sample of blood for research in my office at work once. Now THAT was embarrassing!!!

    Helloooo, I'm back, they've gone, they lived. I queued up for the BCG jab at skool, and being as my name began with a C then, I was first. Rolled up sleeve, went in, got wiped with the disinfectant swab thing, screwed my eyes up, gritted my teeth, then Matron said 'You can't have this, it's not compatible with your asthma drugs.'
    Sleeve down ,big smile, went out of Matron's office. 'Did it hurt?' asked Lynne, next in queue.
    'No,' I said, truthfully.
    Apparently, she fainted...

    My Dad got TB. We all had to be screened for it.
    They all had to have the BCG except me!
    Seems I had been infected too but being a fit country girl had fought it off and made my own antibodies - which it seems are the better sort anyway. So it got me out of having the injection.

    My maiden name began with an A so I was always first! They tried to give me the TB jab again when I changed jobs last month. I told them I distinctly remembered having it first time so had no intention of repeating it. Eventually they found a tiny mark on my arm that is probably my scar - the NHS insist on you having a scar to prove immunity. Savages. Anyway, it got me out of there!

    We had to have that needle test, and if it reacted and inflamed, you didn't have to have the BCG as you were immune already. So for a week we went round slapping our arms to try and make the patch test thing go red...

    It's okay, we're not keeping 'em anyway :D They're all soft as though, Midget's a right mummy's boy and Scotty panics when he loses sight of you!

    I read somewhere that it's supposed to be 50/50 girl & boy ratio...i've only hatched out two batches of chicks, first lot 2/3 were boys...second lot, 4/5 were boys. Definitely more chance of getting boy's then? And is that with all birds or just chickens?

    Out of 10 chickes we got a few weeks ago, it looks like 4 boys and 6 girls. They are mixed breeds-they came from my friends hen house. Hopefully, we won't have any more surprises! I went and got 6 girls from the farm store so we'll have 12 girls. Some of the original 6 are cochins and I think we have a silkie so they won't be great layers. The 6 chicks I got last week are golden comets and Rhode Island Reds. I don't know what to do with the extra boys. I like them all! They are practicing their cock a doodle do and getting much better at it!

    The first 10 have been mystery chicks but we have an idea. We are waiting to see if one is a silkie because her feathers came in different and all the feathers on her head stand up! It's also starting to get poofy around her face. Silkies have 5 toes on each foot so that is my next step...to count them! She's white and her feet are very feathered. It's hard to see her toes!

    Think our chicks are a mish-mash of lots of other breeds, with a little RIR blood in them. They look like Eva, but seeing as she was a battery hen we're not sure what breed she was - New Hampshire Red, maybe? We're going with golden comets for the moment though, simply because it's a pretty name :rolling:

    Speaking of which... who would be interested in having one of possibly the sweetest and loveliest pet cockerels you've ever seen?

    We can't keep cockerels (too close to the neighbours), and Dan can only take 1 (he thinks they'll fight to the death if there is more than one rooster), so that leaves (according to Scarlet) three boys to re-home when they are fully grown in a month or two...

    And if not, any idea what we can do with them (and please, no "cook them" answers)?

    Hey there everyone. I just discovered the hencam 3 days ago and given that I adore chickens I've been checking in on them each day. I go back to work Friday for 7 weeks so I won't get to see them much. I enjoy keeping the cam up while I'm looking online so I can hear the chickens' little murmurings during the day. ;-) I especially like Milly and wish she didn't get pecked by the others.

    I live in the US but wish very much that I could live in the Cotswolds or Yorkshire. We had a wonderful trip exactly 2 years ago this month and greatly enjoyed staying on B&B farms and enjoyed watching the lambs greatly. I really miss England and especially Yorkshire, so I was thrilled to find a chicken cam from there. Thanks Neil et all. ;-)

    Incidentally, I didn't notice the feedback noise when I checked back around 8 pm your time (we're 5 hours earlier.)

    Hope you don't mind if I'm here now and then! ;-)

    Well, while Milly is my favorite, I do enjoy watching all three of them scratch around and vocalize. Very adorable!

    I live in North Carolina, but I'm not from the south. I'm a transplant from New England (mainly Vermont but also lived in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts as an adult.) My husband happens to be from NC but you'd never know it. His accent is like that of a news anchor; no distinguishable accent! His whole family is here and we're close to them, thus we moved down 8 years ago.

    I've always thought chickens were adorable with their cluckings and such, so it was delightful to find this webcam. I also miss Yorkshire very much. We loved our trip of a lifetime there so much 2 years ago I think we decided it can't be a trip of a lifetime afterall. We plan to come back some day (but not for awhile b/c we are adopting right now (a baby son from Vietnam.) ;-) I wish I could move to England one day, but I don't think it's fair to both of our families to take off like that and hardly ever see them. The outdoors down where I live is entirely too humid and too many things like ticks out in the summer (and too hot anyway) so I especially miss England's climate (and Vermont's.) ;-(

    Anyway, that's me. ;-)

    ~~~~Edited to add: I don't know how to 'stick a pin' in the Google map. I tried to figure it out last night but it didn't work.
    Keeper of the hens
    Thanks Jacqueline it's nice to know a bit more about you!
    Next time you are in Yorkshire pop in for a cup of tea and say hello to the hens in person :)
    To add a location on the google map, you need to drag the map to whereabouts roughly you live (which can be a bit of a pain if you are in the US - it's a fair distance to travel!) - zoom right out if you have to drag the map as then it moves more distance per drag.
    Anyway, then when you can see whereabouts you live, click "add a location" (it's at the top left of the page), then click on the point on the map you want your pin, then type in the name and description, click the save button, and that should be it!
    Well it is in a stupid place I admit (I had to hunt for it when I was writing those instructions!) I edited my instructions to be clearer!
    lol, now I don't feel too bad. When we stayed in Yorkshire we stayed in the north part of the Dales in Gunnerside at a great B&B sheep farm. Loved it! We spent a 6 hour day just driving around the Dales. Boy do we miss it! When we were there it was some of the worst gales and flooding they'd had in about 10 years (but that was before last year.)
    You should be here now, it's been absolutely stunning for the last few days - we were out over Silsden moor at dinnertime and the dramatic rocks and blue skies with white clouds and sheep and fields... makes you glad to be alive.
    (we had a bbq just near the bottom of the pic - really lovely!)
    Oh Neil, you're killing me! I miss being there so much I ache. That is really beautiful. We have some wonderful pictures we took while there, despite most of them being taken w/ gray skies. Honestly I loved the rain, but it was nice to have a break now and then. Your picture sure brings back memories. Let me know if you want a few pictures we took.
    Small world, sweet pea! My uncle is a physician at Strong's Memorial hospital up there! What kind of chickens do you have? My favorite to look at is the buff orpington and the silkies (love the little pom pom heads) but I've never kept any yet and probably won't for some years if ever.
    It is a small world as I was born at Strong many years ago! About 4 weeks ago my friend gave us 10 chicks (about 2 weeks old) that hatched in her hen house. We didn't know what they were so as they have gotten older we have figured out most of them. It looks like we have an aracauna hen as well as buff cochins. We think we have a silkie mix hen also. 4 are boys - 2 buff cochins and 1 black cochin and 1 I'm not sure yet. So because they aren't good egg layers, we got 3 Rhode Island Red and 3 golden comet pullets last week. (day olds) So we have 16 chickens! And we are first timers at that!
    Wow, you two are virtually related!!! ;) Proves the small world theory though doesn't it.
    A lot of people in this country are emigrating so perhaps you could do a life swap! Good luck with the adoption - have you met your little boy yet or is it all still in the early stages? Pets are good for kids - get him some hens!!!
    Oh, and welcome to hencam from me too. Don't forget us when you get back from work!
    Hey there Kateb. ;-)
    I wish we could life swap!! However, when our child is young, it really is a good area to be in here. There are lots of adoptive families with asian children plus all of David's (my husband) family is here (like 19 of them!) One of his step-sisters is adopting a daughter from China so our child and hers will probably only be a year apart or so. Due to be home around the same time too! We don't have a referral yet. Will probably get matched w/ a child and information in August (possibly July.) Should travel to get him in Oct or Nov. hopefully!
    Tomorrow I start back at work so I'll miss that I will never see the chickens before they're already going to sleep. ;-( I'll be sure to check in on Saturdays!
    A colleague of mine was trying to adopt a chinese baby - she has a daughter that was conceived by 'test tube' but it took several attempts and they said she wasn't suitable to try for another. However, she said the process is painfully slow and it will be a few years yet. Sadly she's been moved to offices several miles away so I don't see her any more.
    Yes, China has really slowed down/backlogged. D's step-sister and her husband have had their paperwork logged in since early 2006 and probably won't get a match until Nov/Dec or later!
    Hi Jacqueline
    My sister lives in Petersburg Virginina so not too far away from you, she had her honeymoon at the coast in North Carolina it looked soooo beautiful, right enough I'm going back 30 years, gosh typing that makes me feel quite geriatric!
    Hope you enjoy your time on the cam, the hens and chicks are just adorable! and are a credit to Neil, Red and co for all their hardwork.
    I do miss seeing Milly though! Are the chickens we're hearing usually Milly, Tilly and Penny in the background? When someone said the 'tweens' voices were changing I take it we aren't hearing them vocalize much yet? It's too bad I only get to see them for 2-3 minutes each day while I'm eating breakfast (around 12:30 pm English time.)
    Mary, I haven't actually been to the outerbanks yet! We've been here 8 years! Honestly, I don't care for living in NC. Far too humid and hot the majority of the year for me. Give me English weather ANY day!! I love gray sky and misting rains.
