Be proud of your accent Red, It's roots are well into our history and worth preserving.
The ability to speak "Queen's" English is useful at times such as conversing with foreigners but it's not for every day talking.

By the way CC, the purple hammock arrived yesterday for the rats. Its a lot smaller than I thought, but lovely purple fur (cadbury purple they call it!) Molly tried it out, Patrick tried to pull the fur off, and now they're both ignoring it. All is back to normal in the rat cage.

OK, first of all, I don't remember how to make this a nice link but that doesn't really matter!

I am going to be having 2 more rats - they are from a breeder so will be handled from birth and as he can provide a 5 generation family tree are hopefully slightly healthier than their pet shop cousins! The link is to photos of them from birth to now (17 days old). There are 4 boys and 4 girls, 7 russian blues and 1 blue point siamese. He is keeping the only siamese dumbo girl (the white one), the other 3 girls are top eared. There are 3 dumbo boys and one top eared. I REALLY wanted a dumbo girl but we can't always have what we want!

Now the problem - what am I going to call the 2 girls I'm having?!

They remind me of Martha's mouse babies...Those babies sure are beautiful! Are they all the smoky grey/blue colour then, the ones you can choose from?

Also, where did you find a breeder (if you don't mind me asking)? I was thinking of getting some more mice next year, but want to get them from much more healthier stock than the crappy pet shops...

Unfortunately all babies are allocated, and the girls are all top-eared so I can't have a dumbo. (I don't want boys and requested 2 girls). I assume the picture you posted Diane is of one of the dumbo boys and yes, it is THE most delightful photo and I so wish I could have that one.

The group photo is great too - how lovely must it be to be asleep in a rat pile like that!!

Yes red, they are all that colour, apart from the one that's different but the breeder's keeping her.

I found the breeder on a forum site - he had posted a message and I noticed he was from Birmingham and had "Urban Rattery" under his name, so I went to his web site and saw that he was expecting a litter (well, his rat, not him!) There is also a Midland Rat Club that has a list of breeders. If I find a similar thing for mice I'll send it you Red.

I'm going to ask next week if I can go see them in advance of getting them!

    So ... any name suggestions?!

    You missed Marks & Spencer!

My only thoughts so far (bearing in mind their colour is Russian Blue):

    Blue (like their colour!)
    Belle (bluebell)
    Moon (blue moon)
    Gracie (just sounds sweet)

But I'm not overly keen on any of them!

Perhaps I have to wait until I meet them. After all, Molly didn't get her name straight away, took me a week to decide and then I found everyone else has/had a pet called Molly! There was your mouse, my brother's cat, and a friend at work's dog!

There is a theory that an animal will subconsciously put their name (or the name they want) into your head. If that were true we'd have had to change Emmett's name to 'FOOD' as that's what she puts in my head when she looks at me!!

Molly was going to be Lolly but it just wasn't right for her. I've made a note of ducky though - might try that one out!!!

I was reading a book to my daughter about them and he over heard me and said "Kakapo"..so that is what I named him. He calls himself several things now.."Poe", "Kakabirdy", "Baby Poe", "Kakapoopy" or just baby bird...several more, but he names himself at any rate. He's a goofy little bird.

Poe? As in Edgar Allen? Well read little bird!

My god-son's little brother used to rename himself every few months. What I loved was that the whole family would comply. For awhile he was Danger Bunny. Later, he was Spike.

Totally off-topic, but i remember when my little cousin was a tot he couldn't pronounce Scarlet and so called me "Larlly" instead. I was singing at a Christmas concert and he came to watch me, and all you could hear through the entire show was him yelling "LARLLY!!" at the top of his voice :D

Kakapo calls himself "Poe" for short..most of the names he calls himself are derivatives of Kakapo to him. He left off the kaka part from Kakapo and became just "Poe". Other strange things he's does is call all food "a glass of water",when he wants food he yells "glass of water, come and get it."
All dogs are "spike" ( I use to have a little dog named Spike when I first got Poe)Our new dog Snizzel is still "Spike" to Poe. If he sees a new dog in the yard, he yells "Spike did it!" and I know someone's dog has dug in here, under out fence again. He's said a lot of things over the last 11 years, that have just blown me away.

I used to tune a piano in a house where the parrot spent half his life shouting for the dog in the owner's voice, and the other half telling the dog he was a 'BAD DOG!' at which the dog would slink off, chastened. Only to come running when the parrot called again...
I think the poor dog might have benefited from Diane's ministrations.

    Denim

Maybe it was a fire drill and you were supposed to assemble somewhere.... and now they know you are missing and scouring the local pubs for you...

We were on top floor of hotel once when fire alrm went off in the middle of the night!
I scarpered to below while hubby said he would wait and see....
    It was a false alarm.
Oddly enough a year later it all happend again, same time, same place.
We didn't risk a third visit.

I get very aggravated when public places do not unlock one of their double doors.
I proclaim in a loud voice "Oh dear, the fire door is locked shut!" while shaking it vigorously.

This is a horrible fire alarm... apparently everyone's went off for about five seconds then stopped again, for no reason whatsoever

It will be a test Red, they have to make sure the sirens and system is working just in case they're ever needed. Its usually a requirement that they're tested on a regular basis, but you would expect them to let you KNOW they were being tested!

At work, ours are checked on a Monday morning just after 9am. A few weeks ago we could smell burning on our floor, so set off the alarm. The other floors thought it was a test and stayed in their offices. Took them ages to realise it was genuine (you would think the constant ringing would give it away!)

Turned out it was someone doing welding on the new heating system in the underground car park and the smell went straight up the venting and out on our floor. They got a big telling off because, believe it or not, they have to have a permit to do things like that!!

    Haha, Kate! :D

In 6th form we always used to set the alarm off with burnt toast - they started charging us for it, but when the art teachers constantly set the alarm off with burnt toast it was a whole different matter! :-\

The art teachers always burnt toast in their office, which set the fire alarm off. However did they get a fine? I think not! Nope, all the other teachers found it highly amusing when they did it...

They're separate at the mo - got to quarentine for ideally 2 weeks. They will hopefully go in with Pat and Mol if they're willing to be introduced to each other. Will post pics tomorrow - spent so long playing with them tonight I don't have time now!

They are sweeties. One is a lot more sociable than the other strangely enough, but couldn't tell you which it is! I think I'll have to put a dab of food colouring on one of them so that I can tell them apart, just to make sure they're both eating etc.

Oh yes!! Sorry - I've been agonising over the names for so long I forgot to share them!

They are affectionately known as the Blue Twins (or blooz sisturz), but individually are Angel (ironic, she's a little devil!) and Sapphire (Saffy, also called chunky monkey because she's a lot bigger than her sister).
