    Mine is MAE.

I had an Aunt May who promised me half her fortune but when she died we couldn't find her will. When her sister Lily died we found that she had left all the money to May's original beneficiary of the other half of May's will. They didn't know each other so we presumed Lily had destroyed May's will so she could use the proceeds as they lived together at the time.

Complicated but I often think of the double dealings when using my middle name.

Mae seems to be a very popular name in the births announcements lately.

My Mum's family gave their babe's unusual middle names so that when they went into having own firms it would be a name folks would remember.
One was called Tungate. One of my grandsons that I was asked to supply middle name got Torronce, which was an old name in the family.

My Dad's side had a lot of Sarah Anne, spoken as Saran.

In England, if someone does something daft, it's not unusual to hear them called a berk. Pronounced, unfortunately for Kate (who must have loved her husband v. much) "Burke". :D

I havent got a middle name either. My Dad said with a lovely first name like Cake, you dont need any other! Sweet!! Both my girls have got them though. Ellen and Elizabeth. Both old family names. But here is a doozy, on holiday in Scotland I met a chap who had 3 girls called...Shereed'ann, Larabindacandice and Azariashanaz. No gaps, just strung their names together in one. How cool are those names. And he calls them the whole name too. He said if famous people can have exotic names so can my girls. Er,......No!

I adore flying. My parents flew Tiger Moths when I was little.
I have been in all sorts of planes - even a hot air ballon and done a loop-the-loop in a glider.
I find gazing out of the window up there such a great thrill. I flew to Japan, 12 hours and was glued to the window all the way, saw some fantastic sights. I wrote it all down in a journal, it is the one I reread most.
Planes for me, though I am not averseto ships and have a few memories of excurtions to foreign climes.
I love travelling "but it's so much nicer, yes it's so much nicer to come home".
    Fly back to UK Wednesday.

Believe me you are missing out by not escaping this island sometimes. I have been amazed and educated with the diversity of other countries.
Suggest you don't stay in hotels. Lodge with ordinary foks where you can, Tourist Board can guide you, though easier for me to muscle in on colleagues when I was working and visiting conferences. I have done B&Bs via TB too. A Belgian one comes to mind in particular.
Come on, get out of that rut. Save up the spondilucs and go for it.

All the cities, also towns and less, I have returned to have changed considerably over the years. My own village is twice, or more, the size I first remember it. Although the centre of the village is a protected area, other parts have altered. Where I spent my first 25 years was then old stone cottages. Now it is an industrial development area. New small estates of yuppie boxes spring up till there is no more new building land available, so they recaim land by pulling something down - often a feature of the village's history, a mill or such.
I agree there is a lot to see on our own island. My Mum spent her last 25 years in London and found such a lot more to see than the visitor gets to.

Solihull - where I work - is becoming overrun with coffee shops. In the square where our office is there's an old style very small cafe that the OAPs use for their sausage sandwich and cup of tea, a BHS and an M&S that both have coffee shops, a Costa's (and another in the shopping centre 1 minute's stroll away), another just opened and another due to open. I hate coffee. Why don't these companies do their customer research?! I'd like a pet shop or a DIY shop. Its all too yuppy.

Bless you! If you did, I wouldn't understand it. When I read Vicki's posts I sometimes have my face screwed up in such concentration that Eric asks what the matter is! :D

I hate 'Lolspeak' (no offence to anybody who uses it), what is the point of changing 'the' to 'teh' ?! It doesn't save time and it's just annoying.

    *takes whinging hat off*

Self induced dyslexia - that's just marvelous. Not.

Not in Merika, however. :D You all persist in adding unnecessary letters...

Hey, since Vicki didn't change the topic before she left, how about this one?

TOPIC THIS WEEK - *Nice things about Vicki.*

I'll start: I really like the way the Vicki loves her kitty, Jemima.

Wow. Balance (an esoteric concept) against Rams (a horn laden mammal.) I wonder who winds this contest...?

Another nice thing about Vicki - I like the fact that she had kept up with keeping this thread interesting, after she created it.
