I wonder if the chicken thought they weren't going to hatch because they take longer than chicken eggs? Its a shame she sat with them for so long, only to give up at the last hurdle. I hope the others hatch out OK - come on ducklings!!!!!

Hi Forester and welcome. It was interesting to hear about 4H, sounds like a great organisation. I don't have any hens but am considering. I like silkies (because they're pretty!) but brahma's are really gorgeous too - especially the ones with the lacy feathers.

Lovely photos Red - thanks. The one of Joe is really sweet. The chicks seem to be enjoying their space in the paddling pool and I see they still like sitting in the food bowl!

    Hi everyone

I am just loving looking at the wee chicks, and the girls when they have been on cam, and I've loved reading all the banter too.
Those wee chicks are better than any comedy show you could put on, their antics are so funny and they are so cute!

Uh oh. I wonder that about the girls sometimes too...

Because I persist with dial up - I get a lot of still shots rather than a nice stream. So I never know whether to worry/panic/freak out or not at what I'm seeing. And the sound doesn't help. That comes in spurts as well and out of sinc with the vid.

Hello all and Good Day! So sorry to hear about the abandoned eggs outside, Lynn, but YAH! You've done so well with the 'bator! That is a stressful time. Will look forward to more pics as you post them. Diane and Lynn, I am jealous you live in Washington State. We honeymooned out there and loved it.

I couldn't figure out how to put my own pin in the satellite map, so any advice would be welcome.

The chickies on hencam are growing like weeds-so fun to watch aren't they? We are going on a short anniversary trip up north tomorrow until Thursday so won't be on til then. I'm sure they'll be huge by then. See you all on Thursday back on hencam-what a fun place to be...

Forester have a great time on your trip. As I sit here typing this one of my moggies is stretched out in front of the monitor snoring her head off.
I just love looking at the wee guys or lassies I've noticed when they are all asleep and one wakes up it's like the domino effect and they are all up so funny and really a tonic for a drab day. I haven't had the good fortune to have hen's, so reading about then hens, ducks etc., other people have is just great!
Gosh I could prattle on forever guess it's my chatty Scottish nature!

Have a good trip Forester, don't forget to drop back in and chat when you get home. And Mary, you should put a pin in the google map too. You're our 2nd Scot! Fred is up that way too and due to get his hens soon - we're looking forward to the pictures. I'm really pleased for you Lynn - it must've been very stressful for you and Red, not knowing if you were going to get one live chick/duckling let alone any more. WELL DONE!

The chicks keep standing around together, almost as if they're lost and not sure where to go. Bit like a disaster movie, especially when they collapse back to sleep! One of the chicks looks quite tall and skinny compared to the others, unless s/he just stretches more than they do.

Yes, she'll let anyone pick her up. And she'll follow people into the kitchen...she even tried to follow me up the stairs the other day, but couldn't quite get the hang of them :D When she was a baby she flew a few houses down the road, via the back gardens, and would go into their house and sit on their shoulders!! We didn't even know about it, but thankfully they loved her little 'visits' and used to feed her muesli :D

She wasn't too bad when we first got her, but because she was so small and Tilly & Penny used to pick on her, she kind of adopted me as mum. When we first got her she was only about 10-12 weeks old, and she'd stand on your shoe when you walked!

It was the same with Eva. She was terrified of humans when we first brought her home, but she learnt to see them as her protectors from Milly and Penny. After a few weeks she loved cuddles and being carried, a major transformation from when we first found her.

Hmmm - still blackness. I guess I'll try refreshing. They are all good then, it sounds like? How are the adorable ducklings (to use a phrase from Gloria.)?

All 9 ducks are out of the eggs and doing great..2 are still in the incubator drying off, but I should be able to move them to the brooder with the rest of them in another hour or 2. Don told our Jack Russell terrier *Snizzel* that these are her babies..she has been laying by the incubator for 2 days now and when I make her come out of the room, she cries till I let her back in there with them, she loves to stand and peer into the brooder and watch the babies eat..she's about to drive me nuts.

Still no picture! I'm refreshing again. Earlier some people were saying they had no video, but Neil was on at the same time and he did have a picture. I guess I am among the outcasts now. Well, given your current work to bring all these little beings into existence - between the two of us, I'm glad you are the one to see the chicks Lynn.

LOL. JUST as I wrote that last part...voila! On comes the video stream. :D

Now the forum is going slowing that a snail. I had to go out and come back in.

That is great! About Snizzel. Has Chelsea met them?

We don't let Chelsea near them..she'd kill them all in 2 seconds flat.
This is Sniz and her babies.

Ooooo. That is a fantastic photo. You should do a video for UTube of this. Just look at that concerned mama. The second picture didn't upload...

On the 12th I'm taking Holly to a training in Des Moines put on by Seattle Pet Hunters and Kate Albrecht (former cop - founder of Missing Pet Partnership.) They are looking for people and dogs who can be trained to help locate missing pets. I'm going to get Holly (and me) tested. You should bring Snizzle!

Sorry I was offline pc having a tantrum! A moggie is a cat. The wee ducklings look so cute what kind of ducks are they, if someone has already said Oops I need new specs then.
I have just been watching the chicks and they have grown up so much, their personalities are showing through and they are so funny unconsious comedians with feathers! and quick wish I could move like that.

Yes Ace - the idea has more and more appeal!

Maybe its because I live on an island. Lynn? Gloria? Is it that much where you are? Even so - CC that's $30 a month. STILL more than I'm willing to shell out. He he, notice the islandish pun? :P Well, at least I'm entertaining myself...
