He wasn't hugging her Ollie, he was manhandling her away from the pressies!!!!

My son said he spotted his cat asleep half way up their Christmas tree, across the branches and wrapped around the trunk. It was great until Caitlyn spotted him and decided to sneak up and shout "COSMO" down his ear and scare him half to death!!! That child has a wicked streak in her!!

My cats disappear pretty sharpish too. The look of disgust on their faces when she arrives is a picture! Cosmo is my son's cat and pretty bullet-proof compared to their other cat Timmy (Cosmo's brother), who they rarely see. He's in permanent hiding!

Caitlyn told her dad that when she sees Foggy (my cat) she is going to smack Foggy for scratching her. It happened 3 weeks ago but she won't let it go!

It is a long from us but we are all so aware of the awful floods in Queensland and what a horrible Christmas and new year everyone up there had. It is the worst flooding they have ever experienced.
I have visited quite a few of the towns affected years ago.
All the big businesses down here are donating and people are trying to help with even a small donation. I cant imagine what it must be like to see your home sitting in a metre or more of water and the longer the water stays the more damage and the smell gets so bad. The high temperature just makes it worse.
Tent cities have sprung up and it looks like a war zone.

When I got up to do the hens there was no snow. I was outside with them sorting out their food, water and such like and a few flakes fell. By the time I got back in and taken boots and coat off it was coming down that heavy I couldn't see the bottom of the garden. It fell like that for a couple of hours then it eased off and we have had a fair bit of rain since this morning. But the snow is hanging on in there and is very sloshy and slippy underfoot. We still got huge piles of mucky snow here and there along the roads from the first lot we had before Christmas!!!!

[lolspeak off] Hotdogs, the above is a photo of a very loyal goggie, “Leao,” sitting patiently for the second consecutive day next to the grave of her owner, Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who was killed in the recent landslides in Brazil. Leao’s faithfulness is a poignant reminder of the bonds that are formed between pets and their owners, and it’s a reminder of how devastating death can be for everyone involved.

Aww that really does make you think, a pet isn't just a fun 'life accessory', real bonds are made.

Speaking of bats, I'm hoping (only because the alternatives are much worse/scarier!) that we have bats in our loft - we hear scratching noises late at night and if we bang on the ceiling it stops for a bit, then carries on a few minutes later...

We're hoping it's bats, because if it is, by law you can't get rid of them, and the alternatives are:

    - squirrels: cause massive destruction and damage
    - mice: stink and poo everywhere, make nests in insulation
    - rats: cause damage

Our loft is weird though, you can't get up there to really check, so I'm not sure even if we did get someone out they'd be able to tell us definitively what it is up there...

Damn living in old houses and near fields...

    Oh dear...!

Probably won't though...someone bought a male and female mouse (yes, they're idiots) and they had like 11 babies. So they don't know what to do with them. Their first thought was to release them outside (yes, like I said they're an idiot!), so if the pet shop won't take them or they won't get rid of them I said I'd have them :tooth:

    Yeah! They'd come in useful...

Speaking of which, James had a 'Jumbo Mouse' last night for the first time, he's been on large mice but they don't seem very wide compared to him, so thought I'd try the next size up.

He really nailed it hard and constricted it so it was even deader than before, then sat coiled around it glaring at me until I left the room. I checked back a few minutes later and he was still there giving me evils so I left him overnight, and it's gone this morning :face-smile:

    Keeper of the hens

Posted By: KatebIf you got someone in to have a look they should be able to work it out from the droppings and teeth marks in anything chewed. Sounds a bit worrying!

They've been there for years...we've caught a lot of mice in our house over the years!
Used to have mice in my bedroom back when I had pet rats and they would steal the rat treats!! :face-smile:

Here's an idea. Make sure it is not bats and then let James go up into the attic.

Haha! Not getting the thirteen, they managed to be rehomed somewhere closer to the person, which is good 'cos thirteen might have been a bit much! I had seven mice at one point and that was a handful!!

I was waiting for someone in a pub car park last afternoon and noticed this creature roaming around the shrubbery.
At first I thought it was a rat but then saw it had a tail like a hampster and was a reddish colour. There may have been more than one.

Any ideas, apart from a rat chased by a knife wielding chef, via a vat of tomato sauce?

oh my god a shrew, he has a little snout, is that you holding it Red? I just adore little woodland creatures, I want one of each!!! You have so many fascinating critters in UK but I know some are a pest.
Like gophers in the USA (and moles in the UK?) are always depicted as being a burrowing nuisance but I like them anyway.

I love the image of Ollie in the carpark waitng and little critters are scurrying back and forth.

It was a good rat size, certainly not a shrew - which are beautiful, tiny creatures.
A monster hampster would be about right.
Ran like rats do, when they have the space to race along = seem to be about three inches above the ground and bob a bit.

Maybe it was a rat that had lost its tail - he could have got it caught in a door or bitten off by a predator? I saw a squirrel a few months ago that just had a stubby tail but he managed to climb and jump as well as his mate.

Very nice Red! Glass front/solid sides though? Don't mice like to climb the bars? My rats have always liked that - well, until they got to be fatties and couldn't manage it!

Bam doesn't climb his bars that much, he generally just climbs the things in this cage...he does climb his bars and chew them occasionally, or he'll climb the door if he hears our voices, but otherwise it's mainly just his toys and ladders.

Another thing I love about that cage is that the bottom is actually a tray, so you just pull it out to clean it and tip all the shavings out. Brilliant! Shame it's so pricy...

With a wire roof I don't think it'd be much good at containing insects! Its very nice but very pricey.
