This new camera setting is much better. Is the camera a lot closer? The chicks are hiding in the half we can't see and trampolining on the sides. I have the same problem with my CCTV and have to muck about with the angles until everything is in view.

I can see the chicks new colourings coming through. Those fuzzy feathers look so bizarre against the lovely new smooth frocks.

    Keeper of the hens

I was there when that happened Ace - scared the bejeezus out of me, sounded like smashing glass! I can't believe Midget actually managed to knock it over, no idea how he did that.

Chicks were probably out roaming the study and spreading that lovely fresh chick poo everywhere! All of them will come out apart from Midget, and he just sits in the paddling pool looking lonely. Not sure why he won't come out

Lynn, Chelsea sounds very cute, even if she is majorly spoilt :D

And Ollie, the cam's quite a bit closer...because we can't fix it to the netting anymore it's balanced on top of the cardboard box. This means it's easy for the chicks to get to it and knock it around or bash it over, but it is a much better camera for watching the chicks on.

Kate ~ I'll try and take some up-to-date pics of the chicks tonight so you might be able to tell them apart on the cam...i think Midget is probably the darkest chick, he has some pretty stunning brown feathers.

Yes, the red things on top of their heads are combs, and the red bits under their chins (can't see them yet) are wattles.

The one with the most obvious red comb is Midget, although Pappy's is quite impressive so she may be a he...If Daisy ends up being a boy, and Scotty ends up being a girl, that could be verrry amusing! :rolling:

there are so many names that do not fit with people. Some guys have the name ashely which i personally think is a girl's name and some girl's name is sam which i guess i short for samatha. Have you ever had that feeling like you know a person's name based on their personality. Like, when you see a person you think "that person looks like a Bob" b/c of ...?

No, chickens can't bathe in water because their feathers actually absorb the water and they can get a chill and get really sick...so they dust bathe instead! Apparantly it gets rid of live, mites and other creepy crawlies...and it's just something that every chicken seems to enjoy, too!

I used to love to watch the wild birds do it. We had a blackbird that would lie over an ants nest with her wings stretched out, then she'd fly back to the nest. My mom said it was so the babies could have ant for breakfast!

One of them keeps paddling in the yellow bowl!

    Keeper of the hens

Okay here they finally are: recent chick pics!

Pappy (girl / boy, not sure yet - comb development indicating boy but no colouring yet so will have to wait a few more days) :
    Pappy 1
    Pappy 2
The bravest chick who rushes round the study at the first oppertunity, and also likes to fall asleep on my head!

Scotty (who, ironically, so far appears to be a girl :-\ ) :
    Scotty
Nervous little chick who peeps LOUDLY when s/he is worried, but has recently enjoyed perching on your hand as long as he can hold on tightly!! Also has fewer feathers than the other chicks, and has little bald patches on his wings where his feathers haven't grown over yet :D

    Little Sunny (girl) :
    Sunny 1
    Sunny 2
She's eating & drinking fine and has put on weight  She loves cuddles, and is practically joined at the hip to Pappy when they are out of the brooder together!

Daisy next (so far we think she's a girl) :
    Daisy
The heaviest chick we have, seems to enjoyed being picked up and carried around

    Midget (definitely a boy):
    Midget
    Look at that fantastic comb!

The 4 in the incubator I'm going to keep tho..FOREVER, no matter what Don says. This has been a bad day for me from the start to the finish. Too bad it not over yet. I still have 6 more hours to go.

Forester, you'll have to show us pictures, when your baby chicks are born. How many do you have in your incubator waiting to hatch? I have about 8 or 9 days left before my next ducks hatch out..and I have 2 duck hens sharing a nest with about 17 eggs in it, that will hatch out in 20 more days. They may have better luck hatching out babies than I do with my incubator.
We woke up to a snow storm here this morning. It was more like February than the middle of April. This cold weather is getting old, I'm ready for Spring any time it wants to come back.

I hope you cheer up soon Lynn, you gave those ducks a good start in life and you should be proud of that. Like most babies they grow, spread their wings, and leave us, but we cope in the end - or just get more babies!!!

I don't think they are because they're not staying are they. It looks very bright in there today - they haven't moved outside have they?!

I went to the local garden centre yesterday (to buy the rat cage) and couldn't find the silkies they had in there last time I went. They had some other little birds (Rachael said they were guinea fowl). 2 tiny tiny ones, and 2 bigger ones who's feathers looked like CC's chickens feathers - all roughed up! So pretty!

I didn't take any - hubby was rushing me (as usual) as we'd gone for a rat, not a bird! If they're still there next time I'll try and snap one!

Maybe the microphone is outside with the hens. I can hear the rustle of all that loose polythene on the coop.

    Yes, speaker is outside :fingersear:

My dad never comes on here to post what's going on anymore, he's rubbish...i don't know why he put the speaker outside, but he did it after i'd just dug the coop over so i had to do it all again :-\

Confused me too...surely it'd make more sense to just turn the sound off if they don't want it on in the house??

And it means i can't sing to the chickens anymore 'cos you lot can hear me again... *grumble grumble* ;)

No, it caused too many arguments. I s'pose it's either listen to the big girls or have a silent cam

    Red
The wee chick pic's are so cute and my how they have grown, they are such darlings I suppose I can say that as I am not looking after them, you and your fam are doing such a great job, and as I cannot have hens (no space) I get so much pleasure watching the brood and the big girls and I hope they are ok and not too miffed at non being on cam at the mo, but rest assured their fan club is still here LOL.
I hope you managed to steer dad towards the magnet therapy post as it may help him with future attacks.
    Kind regards
    Mary
