Thanks Mary - yes the chicks are cute, but they can be a bit of a handful at times. And you can't reason with them either because obviously they don't speak english. You tell Midget to get out off his food dish, and two seconds later there he is again :-\

I was thinking that Lynn! :D Just heard Tilly complaining about something but was watching the chicks, confused me for a second! I like letting the chicks hearing big chucks though, they look kinda stunned and look around to see who is making the noise :rolling:

Oooo this is tremendously interesting from a psychological point of view. So, I take it you moved the microphone to the coop, and now (in addition to some semblance of privacy in the house) the chicks can hear the hens over your computer speakers? Is that right? That IS interesting. Red - can you lip sinc to The Girls?

The chicks are hilarious! Two of them are "fighting" or is that playing? They are facing off against each other and hopping around! It's really fun to watch them!!

    Keeper of the hens

The chicks listen to the big girls clucking for a few minutes every day, Diane...didn't want to leave it on all the time in case it slowed hencam down, or started annoying the chicks :D

Gloria, i love watching them play fight it is very funny - especially when another chick decides they want to join in so there's three of them bobbing up and down!

The chicks went outside for a while today. Not very long because i didn't want them to get too cold or to stress them out, so they were only out about half an hour. It'd be so much easier if Milly had gone broody and taken them under her wing, i don't know what the heck i'm doing! Anyway they had a bit of a flap up and down the steps, pecked a few blades of grass and ran up and down the path. Scotty even did a few seconds of sun bathing which i thought was brave of her :rolling:

    Keeper of the hens

If you lay on the floor they all climb on your back to sleep, and Sunny will nestle in your hair Peter :)

Kate, i just posted on BYC and they don't think they can be Red Sex Links (they're the same as comets, apparantly, Janice) because the colours would indicate that they're all girls, and Midget is definitely a boy. Someone suggested a speckled hamburg, no idea what they are :o Looks like we still have mystery chicks! Their feathers are constantly changing, Sunny could almost be a different breed to the others if you just glance at them she has such a lighter colouring!

Scotty is running round screaming her head off because she has found (wait for it!) A PIECE OF DIRT!! Oh the excitement...

They are at a very funny (as in amusing) age now. Its great fun for us all to watch but I'd pay to hear Chealsea giggle - the thought of that made me laugh!!

Perhaps Sunny is different. After all you were told they were RIRs but they're not, so there's no saying they're all the same!

    Keeper of the hens

The weather was nice AGAIN today (rained all morning but the sun came out in the afternoon) so i took the chicks outside again. This time i dumped them straight on the grass and they LOVED IT!! It was really cute, all scratting about in the dirt and jumping to peck at the bushes, just like proper little chickens. It's a shame the weather isn't like this all the time otherwise they could be living out there right now

They've also discovered slugs and were chasing each other round the grass with big globs of slug innards hanging out their mouth - niiiice! :P I introduced them to flies too so they were chasing those round the garden...Scotty managed to fall off the wall into the flower bed and i had to go lift her back up, but all in all they managed about an hour outside with no serious accidents or injuries :P

I remembered to take the camera out today as well, so will post pics / videos tonight probably

The chicks love that rock they are taking turns to stand on it, perhaps it's their version of who's king of the castle lol. looks like they've heard something and ar off so investigate, my sound isn't working so I guess I'll have to learn to chick read! One chick when running past he/she reminded me of a raptor from Jurassic Park just the way they flick their feet out.
Red, the chicks are looking so stunning as I said earlie, you are doing such a great job of being their carer/mum.

    Lynn

My sister lives in Virginia, and is animal mad she has two cats and has about 8 acres around her house with loads of wildlife so she feeds that. I'll have to ask her if she's ever considered having chukes.
We have had Thunder here and hailstones I'm in Surrey England it's quite humid which I hate I'm a cold weather person being a Scot!

Mary - Lynn has the biggest farm and collective of animals I've ever known. Every time she mentions yet another animal or species there, my jaw drops.

Yahooooo! 70 degrees. :D But, not today. Overcast and mid-50's :( But YESTERDAY 70! :D I got a little mini sunburn Lynn. And the tide was out about half a mile so we got to walk all the way out to Baby Island and explore it. Such a magical place. I've only been out there 3 times in 10 years, even though it is just down the street from me.

With nowt on screen I think we have a case of imaginary chickens LOL. Years ago I used to print the image of a multi coloured chicken onto transfers then onto t shirts it did look really pretty and original.

    Keeper of the hens

Latest news: All the chicks are now five weeks old - next week they should be able to go outside during the day! They've also tried spaghetti, raisins, bread, porridge, wheetabix and grapes :P They're on worming medication at the moment too, apparantly you're supposed to de-worm at five weeks.
