Speaking of kindles, I forgot to mention my other book. It's about how to behave around dogs to help them feel at ease, and is especially useful for nervous dogs. I'll post the linky link in case anybody is interested

Well, I for one, unashamedly have been glued to my tv for the last two days watching the arrival of the Royal Baby and his leaving the hospital.
I've laughed myself silly at the way those commentators have worked so hard to fill in all that waiting time!

Loved the gun salute. Many years ago I was with my small chidren in that park when these guncarriages were galloped in, and fired a numerous salute, much to our surprise and delight. Must have been Queen's birthday.

It must drive you MAD, Ollie, all the drivel the commentators have been desperately filling with! 'So how much can the baby see at this point?' and other such inanities. You'd think nobody had ever sprogged before. The baby's royal wave made me laugh though! I hope the press leave the poor things alone now...though I don't suppose they will.

George. He looks quite cute. I'm very pleased for them, and it brought a tear to my eye to see how proud they were. But the waffle was awful! How they managed an hour long programme when the birth was announced despite the fact all they knew was the sex and weight was beyond me! I hope he is brought up as normally as he can be.

My Best of Today is tinged with a bit of saddness.
I have given my little car to my son, who lives about 40 miles away.
    :driving:

I always enjoyed driving and would pride myself on a high standard but lately notice trivial mistakes, (grinding gear and such) and feel the time has come....

Of course this means I will be unavailable as Granny's taxi but will now be able to have that afternoon Martini or Campari that I love to do.

    Cheers folks! :drinkparty:

Better to give up the car now before something happens to give you a scare if you're noticing mistakes, and I'm sure your son is delighted! Did you use it much, or was it just an occasional trip to the shops?

I have only driven 800 miles each year for the last three, so yes, just shopping trips and Granny's taxi.

Bus stop is round the corner to go town, or local village half a mile walk. So I'll be fitter, when I make the effort.
Grand daughter has written down the buses and where the stops are. Bus pass, here I come.

It wasn't just an occasional gear snatch, CC. I had become aware of being rather more cautious than I really needed also the extra concentration on my driving. Took this as an alarm signal.

Well for 800 miles a year it really wasn't economical to pay the tax and insurance then; and a taxi is often just as cheap as getting the car out. Don't forget to haggle though if you're a regular customer; my mum's Sri Lankan neighbour is the scourge of local taxidrivers saying 'It wasn't that much last time' or telling them she's a Poor Old Lady (70!!)...

I'm lucky when it comes to taxis, my son-in-law drives a taxi and lives just a few yards away. I won't be abusing it though, my needs are small, and it will be free - better still!

I'll possibly use the saving to have a cleaner. Found when I had them before it makes me tidy round first, or they spend the time tidying rather than cleaning.

I would love a cleaner...we have so many clothes to wash too, as the washer took ages to get plumbed in due to a hole needing to be drilled, and then Lyle turning it on when a switch wasn't pushed and water flooding the kitchen hehe...and we can only wash when Zoey isn't in her crate as the loud noise scares her!

I went to the vets to collect some more medicine for the cat. The lady in front was getting instructions on how to give the meds to the pet in the cat carrier. "What's in there?" I asked. "A chicken" she replied! It was beautiful and much better behaved than my cats are when they're in the carrier! Had a lovely chat with her about her hens - half wondered if it was the wife of the guy that used to post who lived in Coleshill, but couldn't remember his name! Nice lady.

Turned on my pooter to find the Google logo was a set of birthday cakes with the label "Happy Birthday Georgie!"

Now today is grand daughter Georgie's sixteenth birthday.

I emailed her Mum to ask how she could have arranged this for all the world to see !!!

However, it seems that, as G occasionally uses my pooter and has somewhere entered her birth date, Google applied the greeting just to her!

That's a very clever touch by Google!!!

My best - went on th Severn Valley Railway. Was a nice, gentle day out. There was a class of school children in the carriage next door and they were really well behaved! If I could remember which school I'd mail them and congratulate them.

We went to see th Mary Rose on Monday. It was good, but a little disappointing that it has big fat black tubing running along the length at multiple points. Also went on HMS Victory.

Best thing was the tree that fell down last night during the storm only destroyed the brand new gate we had just installed and it didn't hit any of our horses or chickens. We are having another storm hit tonight, so I'm hoping to come through this one with out any worse damage. The worst thing was no one remembered it was by Birthday today, till late afternoon and then decided to take me out to dinner to make up for it.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, gang. The storm last night and this morning was worse. We had a Tornado touch down about a mile down the road..it hit the Boeing Aircraft plant...we don't get tornadoes in Washington..tell me again how we don't have climate change.

Oh yes, we had a whale of a time. Lovely converted farm house, way out in the sticks. No shops or anything within normal walking distance.
One day for the AGM and another studying "Home Birth" from different perspectives. The rest of the time :blahblahblah: :blahblahblah: :blahblahblah: :blahblahblah:
Great home-cooked food, veggie of course and a sufficiency of glug in the evenings. :chillpill:

best: we went to the circus tonight and it was brilliant! At one point this guy was doing a stunt blindfolded and fell from the top of the big tent (luckily was mostly unhurt) but he went back and tried to do it again!!! It was so tense but he managed it the second time and totally stole the show

It was VERY scary! Me and Lyle were kinda watching him through our fingers and I don't think I breathed whilst he was doing it, but the crowd went wild when he made it!

See we talked about that, but I don't think so because everybody looked genuinely shocked and the guy's lip was bleeding a bit...plus it made lots of kids in the audience cry, which I can't imagine is a good thing!!

Who knows though? I wanted to go see the circus again to see if it happened the same way, but we were busy the next day :tooth:

In "Years gone bye" I was very involved in speedway racing (a staunch supporter of Odsal Speedway here).
Riders would fake a fall and have a fake blood capsule to break, limping or stretchered away to get sympathy etc.,

The scoundrels! I didn't know they did that!

I think if the acrobat fell deliberately there'd be something on the web about it. Google the name of the circus/act!

I'm jealous - dogs are the best hot water bottles aren't they! I was never cold in bed as a child in a house with no central heating because Judy (my dog!) slept with me.

There was a Chihuahua x Pug needing rehoming that I found on the internet today (owner was trying to get £300 for it though!!) but it was possibly the cutest thing EVER!

    http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/109358245/pug-x-chuhuahua.html#

I used to hate Chiahuahuas, but recently seem to have fallen in love with them because of all the ones I see in rescue. Would love to adopt one and train it up, really get rid of that 'little yappy dog' label...

Ha, that's fairly cheap in comparison to some...I've seen purebred dogs being rehomed and the asking price being £800!! What are they thinking?! And then they say it's to "ensure a good home"...right, right...

best: we are off to a scare park in about a week's time. We went to it once with my parents, this time we are taking Lyle's brother. Basically you walk around in the dark in different locations (corn field, haunted mansion, evil carnival etc) and actors jump out and scare you!

There's a similar sort of thing in Birmingham for Halloween called The Morgue Live. Set up in an old disused warehouse. I won't be going!

Forgot to post my best: went to hubby's 25 yr long service dinner on Saturday. Nice new dress, nice location (The ICC in Bham), free parking, bus from car park to the door (or up to £40 towards taxi fare), free bar (shame we don't drink!), food, entertainment, live band, 'prom' style photo. Two people had 50 yrs service (can you believe that!), about 15 had 40yrs, and around 370 had 25yrs. Thank you Jaguar Land Rover for doing something nice for your hard working staff.
