    Thanks!

Hubby and son took grandkids climbing today for Caitlyn's birthday - they seemed to enjoy it. We thought Caitlyn would almost fly up the wall, but she decided she was afraid of heights. Shaun climbed higher than her and would probably have gone higher if she'd carried on. Hubby and son both got to the ceiling apparently!

best: had my meds upped again and finally am sleeping and feeling calmer. Also quite excited as I may be able to come off the med that gives me jitters and just increase the other one...that would be amazing

If I was on a higher dose of the other I would need to take a different med to counter-act side-effects, but it would so be worth it to be jitter free :tooth:

Good guess but it's not a piggle! The girls are happy as a group and adding another to the boys would probably cause a relationship breakdown (apparently three boars living together rarely works). It's gonna be a completely new experience for me, and I'm kinda jumping in at the deep end adopting one that hasn't had the best start, but...!

It's a member of the parrot family, place your bets please!

*edited to add* We might be picking the featherball up tomorrow!! Not sure yet, previous owner has to check with someone else. They've been messing us about for a while, so...

Not quite CC! And Lynn, your sweet Poe is part the reason that's made me miss having interactive birds

    Featherbutt's home!

Omb, his old owners!!! They were selling him £50 with cage (I wouldn't even keep finches in the cage they had him in), and when we said we didn't want the cage they reduced him to £15. They said he'd come with a carrier so we didn't take a box...got there and they didn't want to give us the carrier as they could charge more for the cage with it?!?

So we went round to what used to be our local pet shop, explained what had happened and asked for a carrier...and they gave us a box for free

The new guy (we think it's a guy) is a Cockatiel. Not sure on age, but probably around 5 months. Bought for the young daughter, who lost interest so they got rid. He's never been out of his cage. He was named Bob (the builder?) but we changed his name to Topaz

Old owners said he was a Pied, he's not he's a Pearl, and simply stunning! :heartsabove:

Dad's have so many uses don't they. Poor Topaz, why do people get pets and then not even attempt to take care of them properly. I can understand trying and failing, but not even trying ... Beggars belief. He'll be better off with you.

The dad did seem better than the mother and child, he actually showed some regret. Still doesn't excuse the tiny cage though I guess.

I hope Topaz settles in, he hasn't moved or made a peep so far!

My Mum had a Minor bird. Very tame and sociable. He never copied my Father's voice and Mum was
so glad, she wouldn't have been able to cope with that after he died.
Minors sound exactly like the person they copy and no bird accent at all.

When I was a child the local pet shop had a mynah bird. It could hold a conversation and the school kids taught it to swear! I remember someone broke in and stole it. Everyone was upset. The police recovered it a few days later - the stupid thieves hadn't realised that it also knew its address and the fact it knew it had been stolen so kept shouting about it! Never met such a clever bird.

Like the robbers who were startled to hear 'Jesus is watching you!' as they were burgling a house, only to find a parrot talking to them. 'Who are you?'they asked,
'Methuselah the parrot, ' he said.
'What sort of fools would call a parrot Methuselah?'
'The same sort of fools that called their rottweiler Jesus...'

We got wed at the beginning of February in the hope that the rellys would get snowed in. The sun was beating down...

best: I think we have the perfect partner for Cleo...really hoping it all works out  The pet shop even said that if the bonding didn't work out they would take Kali back...but I might be a lot in love with her already! ;)

:rolling: It's like when we 'fostered' Zoey all over again...!!

best: had a visit from my parents and Grandma & Grandad today. Haven't seen any of them since before Christmas so it was awesome and my Grandparents brought up our Christmas gifts, which is a huge run for the piggles / Iden to play in. We might even intro Cleo and Kali in there if it's still neutral territory in a week and a half's time.

Caitlyn passed her level 9 ice skating today - only one level to go on the 'learn to skate' sessions. Don't know what we'll do then as the next step is bronze, silver and gold which is done in the week, but I don't think we could get her over here in time for the lessons and then back to her mom for bedtime. We'll cross that bridge when we reach it!

It's in her blood - her dad is great on hockey skates, as is his dad (my hubby). I've skated since I was 15 too, but I'm very proud of our little 7yr old and how well she's done.

The last few days have been very pleasing.
I seemed to have a bug in my kitchen that had zapped the oven, two microwaves, the center light and a three plug socket.
Found lovely electricians who fixed stuff over a very short time, even repairing the oven door that was very loose.
It has restored my love of folks that was getting sorely tried. eg., the refuse dept that want me to put my different kinds of rubbish into appropriate bags and store them until popping the bags into their bins on the day of collection. So where does one hygienically keep bags before fortnightly collection?

Ollie they want us to do the same kind of thing over here..or at least the people who have garbage bins. We have a big dumpster, so we don't have to sort things out. It's a big pain to have to do that and find someplace to keep the bags till garbage day that won't attract rats and other critters into the neighborhood.

Spent time last week at rehoming with a lovely couple. She'd never had a cat before so wasn't sure about whether she'd get on with one and what to go for. He'd grown up with cats. I introduced them to several, chatted about their situation etc. They went away to think about it, and then phoned to reserve the one they'd fell in love with, only to find out it had been reserved by someone else just minutes before. They went in again on Sunday, and then came in today. I spent more time with them and showed them 3 lovely friendly cats, one of which they chose. They chose a beautiful black female which they came back to collect an hour later. They brought me a bottle of wine to say thank you! My first gift in 4 years! (To be honest, the biggest gift is seeing people choosing and homing lovely cats, and the cats leaving the centre with their new owners, but it was such a lovely thought and very kind of them!)

That was so lovely Kate. You will remember that couple for a very long time. Just as I can remember the couple who gave me, as their midwife, a bottle of their home-made wine. I still have it, thirty years after, label rather faded but so precious to me.

Lovely stories, Ollie & Kate - glad you got your leccy sorted, Ollie. Re the bins, we made them stick to our original arrangement of bags. We pointed out that we had a fire for rubbish and chickens, kites, foxes and badgers for food waste. We also said the poor bin man would have to walk 300 yds to our house, collect the bin, take it 300 yds to the lorry, empty it, bring it back 300 yds then walk 300 yds back to his lorry.
I'm so glad you matched the cat to the owners, Kate - it must be like being a matchmaker! It's good they took a black cat too - aren't they hardest to home?

Kate, that's wonderful news that the people chose a black kitty, so few people want them..I've always loved black kitties myself, I've had 4 that were so very dear to me, like my Chelsea.

Yes, for some reason black cats are the hardest, but they are so stunning - their green or yellow eyes against that sleek black fur. Black & white can be hard too just because there are so many of them in comparison to other colours. To be honest, once I got them to stroke her she sold herself and was just irresistible. I've only ever had one black cat - he was a long-hair but again, very handsome.

Well done on getting to keep your bags instead of bins CC - good to see common sense prevailed!

I suppose I was colour prejudiced in that I definitely wanted a tortie again, but I'd never turn a cat away because of its colour alone if one turned up.
