Caitlyn (granddaughter) took part in her first ice dance show yesterday! She did so well - out on the ice all on her own and a 90 second routine. Her coach changed two things at the last minute and swapped a sit spin (exactly what it sounds like!) for a normal spin, and she didn't do the very last jump as she falls 25% of the time and they didn't want to put her off. Her mom and other grandparents came to watch too. I am SO proud of her!

It has been what I call a proper autumn this year and the trees have coloured up beautifully best Ive seen for several years. We went to the Derwent valley on G/N birthday last week as it was so nice here at home but the closer we got the more mistier it became then it rained. The the photo session we had hoped for was not to be, but hey ho thats the way of things sometimes. We had a lovely day out all the same and a smashing lunch in a delightfully old inn with a real log fire roaring up the chimney. It took the chill straight out of our old bones just looking at it. The rain lifted enough to have a walk along the Dam and we got a few pictures. Not quite the quality of what we normally like but as I said thats was what it was truly like so I am content. I still have to sort through them properly but will post a couple up when I get a moment. Guests gone home this morning so all being well I have two weeks at home before I pack my bags again

The trees here have been beautiful too and the lovely red and orange leaves seem to have hung on much longer than normal. I feel quite sad that they're falling off the trees now and turning to slime on the paths! We've had such a lot of drizzle lately.

I'm thinking of getting Caitlyn a camera for Christmas. She's got an old iphone from her mom but it's not the same as a 'peroper' camera. I was thinking of a small SLR and then I can send her out with her dad or grandad. They both have a good eye for pictures.

Reserved Stanley, a 3 legged cat who has been at Rehoming for 3 months. He had an awful abscess when he was brought in, and then they discovered an old break in his leg which was causing a lot of pain so the vet removed it. He's fully recovered and adorable! Just needs to get into a home so he can build up his muscles and strength.

What a lovely idea about the camera Kate she will love it I am sure. We give Mallory a grown up camera when we take her out she is so cute using it and takes it very seriously I amazed at the quality of her pictures. She whips the card out of it the minute we get in and pesters her Granddad to put the pooter on before she even has her slippers on !!! Brilliant news about Stanley Bless him xx I must take some pictures of Minnie she is doing so well and is a right little butterball now. Sootz was so cute yesterday as he was so insistent that we went to the back door. I thought he wanted to go out but he was alerting us to the fact that Minnie wanted to come in, how lovely that he looks after her even though she can be a right little madam to him at times.

    You can do mine too!

No CC, I reserved him for someone else! I really can't have another cat - Meow Meow is horrible to the others and a disabled cat wouldn't stand a chance when he's on a rampage. Once he's gone (which I'm sure will be a long time yet!) then I'll get an oldie or a disabled or one that just needs to live out its last years or months with someone who loves it.

Awwwe thats so special Kate thats lovely and even more so as she is an ex feral. There are two cats here and little domestic short hair and a very large Norweigan forest. They remember me and are so pleased to see me. Poor Mons the forest has just a stump for a tail as he was run over had both hips shattered and his tail was hanging by a thread, That was last year but he has made a remarkable recovery and although he had a magbificent brush of a tail, He just looks more like a bobcat now. Such a gentle cat I think he is even larger than my Sootz,

Had a good day at Rehoming yesterday-between us, Jen and I reserved 6 cats. I reserved Raymond-a lovely, friendly tabby tom cat with big cheeks and personality, but sadly has FIV (feline immunovirus) which usually means they're with us for months and months. He's been there about 4 weeks and his new owner wants to collect in Jan which the deputy manager agreed to - Raymond has had dental work so has to stay another week while on antibiotics and we don't allow cats to leave over the Christmas and new year period so timing should be OK.

Thanks CC, we were pleased too. We've reserved 145 so far this year - not bad when they were closed for 5 weeks for flu, Jen doesn't come every week, and the public are only in between 11 and 3 and we leave between 1 and 2pm, so a max of 3 hours. Some of them didn't happen because of failed home visits or people didn't collect (can you believe that!) or they return them in the first couple of weeks because they "didn't settle" (annoying) but there will also be ones that phoned up after they've left or come back another day - something we always encourage.

The new manager starts next month. We're hoping he will be a positive influence. If he changes the ethos wel'll stop going which will be really sad, so let's hope he'll be good!

The longest stay cat at rehoming was finally reserved today! Zoe has been there a year. She's diabetic which has put everyone off, but a man who was taking another of our hard to home cats (very shy 13 yr old) saw her and decided he'd give it a go. They're hopefully going to get CP to fund the insulin for her injections so we're really hopeful.
Then, half an hour later, a lady came in and reserved Dizzy who's been there 11 months! Dizzy wouldn't let them touch her and really is a challenge, but they want to give it a go. They're also taking another cat which will hopefully be company for her. Fantastic day!!

My grandma used to knit at 100mph; she knitted me a double knit Wycombe Wanderers scarf that was 11 foot long - double knit as well!

MY best today.....G/N had to pop to B n Q today for some spray varnish to finish a gift he was making. He came home with a lovely bottle brush bush for me. Its full of delightful red brushes. I am over the moon with it and can not wait to get outside and get it planted up.

Think a neighbour has just prevented a burglary. Saw 2 people who don't live in our road by a neighbour's gate, then heard my neighbour shout "what are you doing?" The man replied it was ok he was trying to wake his cousin up. "What's his name?" Said the neighbour, "Mark" replied the man. "No, not there" my neighbour replied, so they made out they must need the previous Grove (but the layout of that is completely different) and he and his female companion walked away.

    Yes I presume so Lynn.

We heard today that the boyfriend of a friend's daughter assisted the police and stopped someone escaping them. The next morning all 4 tyres on his van were slashed and the word "grass" written on the side. What is wrong with people nowadays.

People can be incredibly stupid. The more I see of people, the more I like my cat/dog/chicken/rabbit/earwig as the t shirt has it. I'm only surprised the pillocks could spell such a long word; grass has 5 letters which is a bit long for knuckledraggers like them.

Had a lovely week - grandkids have been here all week and have been really good. They've been trampolining, climbing, skating, and to the zoo (I went too). They're not angels, but I'm very proud of them and they've been fantastic. They went back to their mom's tonight as they're going to Legoland tomorrow. Shaun was very excited about it, but still cried and said he'd rather stay with daddy. ???? I'm sure he'll have a lovely time once he gets there.

Glad you've had such a good time with them all. Now are you going to lie in a darkened room with a glass of gin and a cold compress? Saw a fabulous greetings card the other day: harrassed woman with 3 kids in tow in queue for Macdonalds or some such horrid fastfood place and the server is saying 'There's a free gin and tonic with every three kid's meals'...':face-smile:

Great card CC - I must learn to drink one of these days!!

I'd love to live near the coast - being in the Midlands means it's a jaunt to get near a beach, and Caitlyn gets travel sick sometimes. Glad you had a good time with Mallory - I know what you mean about quiet and tidy. Love them being here, but I really appreciate the peace when Sunday night comes around!

I made the Alpacas for a friends girl CC, she was over the moon with them, she is alpaca and llama mad The little Norwegian Nissi ( barn troll) is a experiment I am working on at the moment. He came out much better than I expected I just need a brighter pink nose and a wee bit of stuffing in the hat. I will also try to work out arms for dome and legs for others sounds odd but thats what they are like over there I can not think that I have seen any with both !!!!

Thanks NN, but I suppose the whole point is that I make it, otherwise I can just go to a shop and buy one! Kids nowadays seem to want shop made 'perfect' items anyway. It would be a lot neater if you did it, but it's been ages since I've knitted I could do with something to occupy me!

For TOMORROW??? Nice bottle of port to lay up till she's 18, a silver cross on a chain, any item of silver made in 1917 (or 1817 if you're lucky!), a half crown from 1917, silver bracelet/bangle, silver topped perfume bottle...any antiques places near you, Kate? Old silver is better made and better value for money than the modern stuff. Get her a teddy or something to have on the day.

No worries Kate just an idea you could have said, I had it made specially for the baby !!!!!

Glad it arrived ok and so fast it was only second class postage as well. G/N made me laugh as the rather snooty woman in the post office snapped, whats in the parcel? and G/N replies a horticultural specimen, He said that made her mouth snap shut !!!!! If they dont take we can always try more in the autumn.

Caitlyn chose a necklace for her-tiny angel wings with a tiny pearl. Your ideas were fantastic CC! I really should plan further ahead and then I could've got something better. Never mind, my niece (who I need to knit for) is due in Oct I think so can use the ideas for that baby!

I forgot to post my good news. I have a new job! It's a 12 month secondment (means they keep my old job open for me) to Primary Care Contracting. I will be monitoring our GPS to make sure they do everything it says in the contract. Never done this before-has been done by NHS England for the past 4 years-hopefully I'll start on 1st Sept. my new boss advised that I read the contract. It's only 319 pages long! :wha:
