Best of today - and it's still quite early.
My stick insect whose leg came off yesterday, my fault for pulling her too vigorously when I changed their vegetation - is OK this morning!

Also they have laid twenty eggs. There'll be plenty more, 100-700 each, according to the info.... Eggs anyone?

It's leg came off, Ollie? :o Glad she is okay today! That's exciting about the eggs - i would LOVE some stick insects but, alas, no pets at uni :(

So, it's leg hasn't come off? Or has it grown back in a day? Or is she coping with the loss of her leg?

It'd take a lot of stick insect eggs to be enough for breakfast! (only joking! Will they all hatch?!)

They moult frequently and at that time replace missing bits.

    All those little egg cups!

I used to have a receipe for a single insect but can't find it. As you can imagine it was not serious!

Today's Best = cleared the outside drain at daughters'.
Made a scoop out of a slim plastic bottle nailed to a long broom handle (five feet) Ladled out a lot of the water and poured down "Drain Cleaner"
Went inside and washed up (broken dishwash) and waited half hour. Outside again to find I had failed to notice the clothes washing machine was running and had sloshed out all my chemical stuff!!! Also the drain was full to top again.
Ladled it out and reduced size of ladle to get now shallow water out. Turned off dishwaser....
Realised there was a certain amount of solid stuff in drain so devised further scoop with a desert spoon, then a teaspoon on stick.
    Getting giddy now!
Decided to try the "Vax" which is a carpet shampoo machine/vacuum cleaner, to suck out remaining water and debris.
Worked a treat, brought out various bits of wood etc and cleared!
Put the lids back on quickly and wait to see if we have full success.

I can tell you that this took HOURS. I had to keep sitting down for a rest,in fact did a lot of it sitting in a chair next to the drain.
I was exhausted after it as I have hypothyroidism that is not being well controlled.
I'm good with logistics, I really enjoy that. Its the manual chopping etc that gets me.

Yeah bag just "disappeared" in a park... Do have insurance but even though I bought the more expensive insurance it only covers single items to a max value of £200, and both the camera and phone were worth more than that, and only up to £200 cash (minus £60 excess!) so again I'll be down there... :(

Just makes me want to never go on holiday again.

I used an online tool - a Moroccan number, a French number, and a couple of Spanish mobiles.

It looks like I'm down about £600 and that's if the insurance pay out for everything claimed :(

There's really no point in reporting the numbers as in Spain petty theft is only classed as a misdemeanor, so basically not punishable (the rough guide to Barcelona says the theives act knowing they have impunity from the law)

I wish I could snap out of it but for the last 5 days I've just dwelled on it and even now at work I feel close to tears not only at losing my stuff but I'm so angry with myself for somehow letting it happen.

It's Scarlet's and Helen's birthdays at the weekend so hopefully that will lighten the mood a bit (but there won't be any pictures of it...)

Get over it man. In the grand scheme of things, it's not bad at all - right? Nobody was injured, you were able to continue with your holiday, the things that were stolen are not necessities. It could have been a lot worse. It happened in Amsterdam and yes, okay, you were a bit daft to let it happen again, but like in Amsterdam i bet you had some good times together despite the theft :001_smile:

Excuse me, sod the birthday's they aren't important: I am coming home, of course the mood is going to lighten

Even I can count to 10 in Japanese! My colleague was taught it by a memory man, demonstrating techniques. Haven't the foggiest how to write it down though!

Thats always the way with insurance Neil, you pay extra thinking you're covered for everything and then they wriggle out of it. That sort of thing would really get me down too so you're not alone. You'll feel better when Red gets home - you're probably missing her more than you realise, even on a subconscious level.

And you didn't "let it happen" - they are theives and probably spend their whole life stealing so are quite expert at it. Just remember karma and fate - one day he'll get his.

Well, the majority of Danny and Rach's stuff is now moved. Hubby hired a van to help out, eldest went and carried boxes, I had Caitlyn. (She slept well last night though, and I only woke up about 5 times to check her!)

Danny looks ill now though - says he feels flu-y and I must admit he looks it. They're sleeping at the old flat (on the mattress on the floor) so I said Caitlyn could stay again tonight. She's so cute but was a nightmare to get to sleep. I am so exhausted I can't begin to explain! But I love my family and would do anything for them so I'll survive. In fact, I should be in bed now but I didn't get to read anything last night (Caitlyn went to bed at 11.45pm!) and wanted to check it out tonight.

My Mum-in-Law would tell about overhearing a conversation between two Nannies on a park bench, very many years ago.
One said she used a little bit of alchohol in the last feed.
The other said, she left the gas tap on, just a little.

Wish I had! She stirred about half 4 and that was it for my night's sleep. SHE went back to sleep but I couldn't - just cat-napped til she woke at 8.

Yeah, there are laws about kids and alchohol but none about gas, just a little!

Fotunately I have never lived in a house with gas lighting, though plenty of my local schoolfriends had it.

I think they like it! This will be their first night here tonight. I went to put them to bed before and they had done it themselves! I normally have to chase them round their coop and literally put them into their hen house, but this evening i went to do it and they were already in their house.

They must be tired from the move. Did you leave them at the old house until last or did someone chicken-sit them for a day or so? Are there new people in your old house now?

Yep we left them at the old house until last, but i kept going back to give them food/water.
They are new people moving in today in the old house, but the new house is a LOT better than the old one. :)

 FortNight happens once a fortnight and it's basically where....um..well, everyone gathers out on a landing, and we each bring out chairs, duvets, mattresses, cushions etc and...um...build a fort / den :shamed:

I have photos of last night's fort!

Kate, you said the same thing as my mum when i told her - "Aw, neil, can we build one too?!" My dad agreed, but whether they actually got round to it i don't know...
