You have to keep him, Red; nobody else would be as patient with such a shy chap. If anyone can bring him round, you can. And a tame mate might help a lot.

It's heartbreaking when they're so scared isn't it. I've no idea how to train a piggie but as CC says, if anyone can do it you can. And even if you can't, you'll still give him a good and loving home.

    Keeper of the hens

Thanks for the lovely comments guys  CC if we did rehome him it would have to be to a very special home with no children and experienced piggle owners...but it's more likely he has already found his forever home and we've done it again! :001_rolleyes:

I saw Chinny lounging (in his hide of course) for the first time yesterday, he was sprawled on the floor with his legs kicked out! Plus when I gave him some dried grasses he snuck out of his hide and to the food bowl whilst I was in the room!! Other side of the room, but still!

All I've been doing so far is talking to him calmly whenever I'm about and trying to keep my interactions positive (feeding, giving veggies and hay etc). I feel like every clean out day he's so traumatised it pushes him back a few steps  I've still not heard him make a noise other than shrieking occasionally...no excited 'oooh veggies are coming' squeaks, nothing

I've been looking for young male guinea pigs up for adoption, but there aren't any in our area (well there's a pair of 10 week old male pigs, but they want them rehomed together - we really only have room in the 140 for two piggles - and after quarantine they might be too old to intro successfully).

My favouritest ever pet shop ( :tooth: ) has 7 week old male Abyssinian guinea pigs in. I love Abyssinian guinea pigs  We're going in today. We talked about intro'ing a male to a younger male on the phone, and as she handles the piggles daily she said she has a few picked out temperament wise that might fit in better. So yeah...we're off in for a chat and to see the cute little boogers, and see what we think ;)

I'm hoping if we did pick one up the intro's would go well with no fighting. It'd be when the little one hit adolescence (around 4 months I think) that problems could arise I believe, so I do hope it all goes well...if we brought another piggle to Chinny and they ended up fighting in a few months' time and one of them was injured I'd feel so guilty :/

    Hahahahaha!

Both piggles are doing really well together. There isn't much snuggling, but there was virtually no fighting...and now whenever we walk past their home we get two piggles screaming at us for veggies! :tooth:

Chinny is actually a really vocal guinea pig now. Lemon has pretty much tripled in size since we brought him home and is almost as big as Chinchou. I have pics somewhere so shall get them up at some point

As promised some piggle photos :)

As you can see, in practically all of them they are eating!! :rolling:

The last one of Chinny shows quite how brave he is now; he will sit out in his cage wheeping at me until I feed him! Oddly enough Lemon is the scaredy-pig now, Chinchou's confidence rocketed once we added him a friend.

Cleaned the finches today and added a new perch. We gave them a nest about a week ago because they love gathering nesting materiel...they are terrified of it, still! :rolling:

So we added two perches under their favourite perch; they always take the nesting material to their favourite perch, so we thought adding two perches underneath might catch it and make them able to actually build a nest...nope, they're scared of their favourite perch now!!!

I want to buy some live plants to provide stimulation and cover for the fish too, but have no idea where to start looking or which plants would be good...need to get researching, if anyone has any experience please share!

Red, since Winter is coming on, I'd get some silk or plastic plants that float on the surface for Winter and then in the Spring (after all danger of frost is gone) buy live ones. If you want to give them something live to eat, drop some small pieces of lettuce in for them to nibble on.

Some random photos that don't fit anywhere else.

Lacy has moved into her retirement home now, it's smaller and all one level (yes, one of those cages are sold for Syrian hamsters, not even connected to others!!). She's an old, old girl and a lone mousie so we've moved her in a busier room where she will get more attention, and more treats, too.

Second batch, Lyle fell over on a dog walk :rolling: This greatly excited Zoey, who dived into the mud with him and proceeded to leap all over him!!! :rolling:

And finally, a really poor photo of a robin on our fence today

Breaking news; the finches have started using their nest!!! :face-monkey:

I've no idea why after about a month they've decided to start using it, but oh well, I'm just pleased they are! Here's Miguel getting ready to leave it:

They look absolutely adorable nestled in side by side with their heads peeking out! If I could get a photo without disturbing them I would, but they don't like the auto-focus or flash on my camera...

The new dog walking bag arrived today - it's HUGE!

It's not as colourful as my old bag, but much more practical. It has side pockets for a bottle of water and way more pockets in general so I can split things up easier. It's also big enough in the main pocket to carry two spare leads and a spare collar & harness for each pup...not including muzzles, baby socks (for bandages), poo bags, hand sanitiser and treats in other pockets - that's a LOT of equipment, and it all easily fits!

Haha I'm thinking about buying her a coat and counter conditioning her to wearing it...it would take aaaages as she HATES wearing things, but it'd come in useful for as she ages. She doesn't need to wear a coat in winter now, but might as she gets older.

I'm thinking about this one, so much d'awww! :tooth:

Also, we picked up the meecer babies today :)

Say hi to Lorri (black, white and beige belly!) and Hattie (brown and white)
They would have gotten on so well with Lacy, they're so sweet :(

They're practically tame already. Lorri is slightly more nervous than Hattie, but is still comfortable being handled, she just doesn't like the initial picking up! Hattie is tiiiiny, she's the same age as Lorri but almost half the size! You can see the size difference compared to the food bowl in the first few pics.

I only got a few pics as I didn't want to stress them out on move-in day.

I remember an RSPCA lady saying to me (re picking up rabbits) 'Well YOU wouldn't like being picked up by giant hands and put on the top of a double decker bus, would you?'. Put it into perspective a bit...and for a mose it's probably like being swept up to the top of Big Ben!:face-smile:

Yeah, I'll probably just pick them up via a loo roll tube until they're super confident...that's how I usually catch my rodies anyway

Hattie loves the millet, she's quite obsessed with it! It took Lorri about 8 hours to figure out how to use the tubes in the cage (which are massive for mice :P ), but I wasn't too worried as we put them on the top level to start with, where all the food / water / bedding is. They've both got the hang of it now though and are whizzing up and down!

May have bought this for them today too :001_rolleyes:

Oh, and Puj's new abode. He's in the Kios, which is a nice roomy cage.

Are there enough things for him to do in there? He is the laziest hamster ever though... :rolling:

(also the huge gap by the wheel is where his food bowl lives!)

The girls sleep separately, it's so weird...I've never known mice not to sleep together before, and I'm pretty certain they were in a nest together at the shop. But nope, Lorri sleeps on the top level and Hattie sleeps in this huge home-made nest on the bottom...she has taken ALL the bedding and made a nest that is about 4 inches high and the width of the cage :rolling:

Well guess which little sod I found sat chomping on my white chocolate and raspberry muffin last night?! :rolling:

Oh Hattie, you little midget mouse!

So, into the RUB they went. It's too small to be a permanent home (the floor is larger than the base of their old cage, but there's no wheel or extra levels) but we have a Habitrail Ovo Loft on the way - I am SO excited! I've wanted one of these since I discovered the Ovo series; it's much larger, far better ventilation and has great access compared to the orbs. But it was also way too expensive!

We found one for £32 including delivery - done!

Can't wait for it to get here
