    Keeper of the hens

My dad just got back from work with a big box. He walked in and said, "This is for the chicks. They're going tonight."

After such a nice day with them all it's so sad that they're going. They've all been such stars and i don't know which boys to send off...we'll never get to see these three again  Pappy spent the afternoon burried under my neck snoozing, Daisy slept on my shoulder when i sat up, Midget enjoyed half an hour's worth of cuddles and even Scotty, who likes to pretend he's too big for cuddles with mum, had a quick perch on my arm...

Scotty & Daisy can look after themselves. But what about Pappy and Midget? Who should go??

I am devastated. I needed a few more days to prepare myself, but i know it's for the best

    I'm sorry too Red. :(

When you were not so directly in the line of fire of the emotional intensity of it - weren't you thinking that Midget needed to stay the most?

Awww. Sweetie - SO SORRY. But, you know, your friends are right that any animal who gets to spend any time with you is so so lucky.

Thank you everyone, each and every one of you is a gem i can't tell you how much i appreciate this  And Vicki, that's a nice idea. Well the time has come, say goodbye to three of the peepers :(

And Diane, you're right. Midget is logically the best choice and he should stay, but Pappy's only small...no, Midget stays. You're right.

And Kate, i don't know what i'd do without Milly. I think she has a sixth sense and knows when i'm upset, she was straight on my knee when i went to see her and didn't get off till i felt better.

    Dear Red
I like everyone else is so sorry the chicks have gone, but you should remember what a good start you gave them into their young lives, no one could have tended to, cared for or love them as much as you do, and I'm sure the chicks in their own way they loved you back and always will, animals always know the good people and to see a pic of one of them standing on you confirmed the trust they had in you, whatever animals/birds that come your way in the future that caring inner instinct for them will always be there.

    Kind regards
    Mary

Sigh - that pen looks so sad. I hope everyone at Hen Cam HQ isn't too miserable. :( :( Maybe seeing the new setting for the 3 boys has been a help? It must be large and have nice places for them to run or it wouldn't be big enough for three roosters. Yes?

    Keeper of the hens

Midget stayed, Pappy went. Scotty & Diasy travelled in a box which they hated, and Pappy rode on my knee so he wouldn't fight and slept most of the way there. The chicks new parents ( :( ) seem really nice, and they've spent so much money building all these different coops and making sure they're fox proof, which i felt a lot better about. The boys slept together the first night, and were being introduced to the other hens, roosters and ducks (!) the next day.

The people said they would keep in touch via email and send photos - i hope they do, that'd be lovely. They were really nice, and i got to hold one of their baby goslings. The chicks have a nice big, well protected coop and much more room to scrat about in...they said we're welcome to pop back and visit too. I hope it went okay and they're settling in fine.

It's quiet without them, the two quietest peepers have stayed. Midget seems happier though, but Sunny seems confused as to where her brothers have gone.

Midget seems to have gained confidence, which is fantastic. Sunny keeps running around flapping her wings (when she used to do that her brothers would come running), and she looks a little confused when nobody runs up to her, but i think she'll be okay.

Midget isn't a 'normal' chicken...he's a bit slow and tends to wander round looking confused, bless 'im :)

I hope so. Now that it's just Sunny and Midget, his sister has been doting on him...she follows him about everywhere and doesn't let him out of her sight. Maybe she thinks as soon as she turns away i'll bundle him into a box and whisk him away :D

Awww. This sounds very good for Midget. He will get a chance to catch up, developmentally. That's great.

I thought that I was the only one with Special Needs animals! I reckon he'll gain confidence now.

Red, I'm interested in how this is working out for you. My sis gave me a bantie hen and 5 chicks for Mothers day and now it looks like at least 3 are roosters. Being in the city, the neighbors are not going to be happy about that so I am going to have to lose my 3 chicks too. I feel your pain, tho it won't happen for a while for us.

OH, I'm gone for a bit and suddenly the chicks are gone! I'm so sorry you were so upset Red but at least Sunny and Midget are with you...and Midget really will benefit from your care.
Right now the stream is off...so I hope Neil reactivates so I can get a better look at Midget and Sunny on their own....

We drove past the chick's new home today on the way to the bike ride, but didn't have to time to stop and see them, and on the way back me and my dad fell asleep :-\

texazgal, good luck getting rid of your extra boys. It's tough, but they'll be okay
