Could do, but they wouldn't be bothered...it'd just be the same old standard reply, that they're phasing out battery eggs but don't have any plans for broilers just yet...We emailed Hellmann's so many times when they used battery eggs (even got my friends to email too), their excuse was "it'd be too expensive" to change from battery to cage-free eggs...and yet as soon as it gets a little media attention, oh, all of a sudden they can manage it!! *grrr*

Rant ~ just been sat on my bed happily doing some work, and noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye. Looked down and it was a HUGE spider about two inches away from my leg!!

My brain seized up, i was frozen to the spot...good job i didn't move really, if i had done the spider would have fallen onto me :P I had to wait until it had crawled onto the side of the mattress, then very carefully get up and put a glass over it, then slip a bit of paper over the glass and shake him to the bottom! Made someone else come get the glass and carry it downstairs with me, honestly it was a horrible experience - i'm still shaking! :)

Did you know that if you place horse chestnuts (conkers) in the corners of a room it is supposed to keep away spiders. And recently I have discovered that you can buy a spray to deter spiders from a room which contains horse chestnut extract.

Ok I re-typed it,sorry this is so long, I hope its worth it, lol.

As I glided through the kitchen, my right hand tightly gripped the handle of the vacuum cleaner. My left carried an array of hose, extensions and attachments. My mission : to transport vacuum cleaner to garage, to implement carpet rejuvenation of a vehicle.
I stepped from the kitchen into a small area that houses the access points to laundry, toilet and back door. Outside the back door is a single tiled step, creating three altitudes that include the house, step and ground level. Upon the tiled step is a steel grate, positioned for the purpose of dislodging stones and leaves from ones shoes.
Exiting the back door my right foot took place atop the steel grate, and then my body initiated the process which enables us to turn corners without wheels. My right heel rotated left as I leaned into the corner and twisted my body in the direction of intended travel. All was going well until the angle of lean succumbed to the laws of gravity.
As my left foot had not reached its place on ground level yet, the combined weight of my angular body and the vacuum cleaner was transferred down to my right foot. The friction between my right shoe and the steel grate was more than adequate to cope with this, however the friction between the grate and the tiled step was not.
The steel grate took off in a North Easterly direction causing my stance to become extremely horizontal like. So I began to lose altitude fairly suddenly without losing grip on the vacuum cleaner, which hit the ground first. The rest of me took advantage of this, using the vacuum cleaner as a landing strip, all the while flexing my trapped hand beyond its specifications.
I was briefly distracted by the sound of aluminum tubes cascading onto the concrete and plastic breaking beneath me. Then a porcelain pot losing its balance and the vacuum cleaner breaking free of my damaged hand to open up and reveal its contents.
Almost as soon as I had come to rest, I scraped myself off the ground to do a systems check. Apart from a graze on my chest, the wrist of my right hand was all that sustained damage. Before long a lump appeared on the back of my wrist to compliment the pain and limited movement it now possessed. This called for a swim in some cold water, and a phone call to mum.

When i was 10 i broke my ankle, but the Dr's at the hospital couldn't tell for sure if it was a bad sprain or a break. My mum told them i'd be fine and made me walk around on a broken ankle for a week, until she realised there might actually be something wrong with it and took me back. Turned out it was a break after all :-\ :D

Is it still badly swollen, Trev?

Those guys on A&E are amateurs - honest..

I went in with damaged ankle. Quack took one look at my spider vein and declared it was a sprain. ie., wet bandage.

It was he who was a wet bandage. Six weeks later, unable to bear the pain any more, I went to another hospital, who X-rayed and found the break.

The problem with A&E is they're too busy trying to get through everyone, whilst chatting/moaning to other doctors/nurses. There isn't enough 'care' going on. They missed Danny's meningitis - thankfully a 2nd visit 2 days later resulted in the consultant seeing him and realising what it was. I will love that man for ever.

When I was little ( about 3 ) I fell down the stairs and broke my collar bone (or fell out of as tree..but that could have been the stitches in my head thing) .. I cried for three days before they took me to the hospital (apparently). I have a lovely "bump" where it was broke.

Apparently I used to unwrap the bandages constantly.

    Explains a lot...

The bad day continues: walked all the way to campus and attempted to find the 'C' section in the Chancellor's building, as that was where the meeting was. Looked all around the building, couldn't find it. Eventually found a sign that seemed to be pointing outside, so walked all around the outside of the building: nothing.

Asked at a reception desk i happened to stumble on and said "Sorry, can you tell me where CBC is, please, because i don't understand the map..." She gave me directions and i found the room........only to read a sign on the door saying 'meetings are cancelled today, email either me or Mark to make another appointment.' :o

Luckily i found it all rather amusing at the time and propped myself against a wall and howled with laughter. Everyone else skirted around me, looking scared

    Sheesh, what a day :-\

Well, I take Echinacea tabs but suspect it is the placebo effect that makes me feel better.
Wiki = "At least one study shows Echinacea purpurea has antidepressant properties" - Ah, that may be the reason!

rant for today ~ the essay is done!! But now it is 76 words over... I'm thinking when the references are done properly, that will cut out quite a few words, and then it will be too many words under :-\

    Keeper of the hens

Today's rant...had the worst night's sleep ever (couldn't get to sleep till after 3am!), then kept waking up every few hours for about half an hour...then in the morning saw that i had apparantly had time to sleepwalk, and had scribbled all over the back of my door. Most of it was nonsense-scribbles, but in the middle in big (if rather childlike letters) there was the word 'ESSAY'! No wonder i woke up more tired than when i went to bed this morning :D

Also, my alarm didn't go off (must have switched it off when sleepwalking) so i got up 10mins before was supposed to set off and needed a shower. Decided to miss the lecture and then it was a mad rush printing my sociology essay off and submitting it on the internet...it's sorted now though, and as long as i hand in two printed copies by 1pm, it'll all be okay!

    Tiiiiired!

Oh dear Red... "sleep graffiti". Pity you didn't actually do the essay in your sleep, instead of writing about it.

Isn't the Harvard system the one which doesn't use footnotes properly, but incorporAtes references inbto the body of the text? I HATE that when I'm reading...:(

Oh Red, sleepwalking is such a scary thing. Just stay away from open windows. My best friends' daughter walked out of a second floor bedroom window, when she was a kid and broke both legs.

Ouch, Lynn! Poor girl, must have been horrible to wake up to that!!

I hate sleepwalking...thankfully there are no windows in this block that open wide enough, there's just plenty of stairs :-\

Yep, that's the one...i was doing the one where you put a little number above the quote and write a list of references at the bottom of the page, but noooo it had to be the annoying Harvard one

It got handed in though, it's over and done with - time to start the next one now!

My hubby used to sleepwalk sometimes. When his granddad was a child he tried to climb out of the bedroom window which was up in the attic - 4 floors - and if his brother hadn't woken and stopped him he'd have been killed. My eldest used to sleepwalk when he was little - he tried to get out of the front door one night and scared me half to death, I thought someone was trying to break in!

They do say it runs in families.

I don't think either of my parents sleepwalk, and nobody else in my family does either

I've got out the back door before at home and woken up in the coop :)

A chap locally (no names,no pack drill) who's in his 20s and lives with his parents got really bladdered one night and fell downstairs, breaking his arm. When his parents came back from holiday he told them he'd done it sleepwalking.
He then came home from work one day to find a really expensive wrought iron gate at the top of the stairs; his parents had paid God-knows-what for it so he wouldn't fall downstairs 'in his sleep' ever again!

Last week I was curious to see how I sleep.... so I set up my webcam to take a picture of me every 5 minutes during the night. The next day I strung all the pics together to make a short time lapse video. Turns out I was quite restless.
