Rant for today: my older cousin is in the BRI, and the Dr's and Nurses there are absolutely terrible...honestly, it'd be funny how clueless they are if it wasn't so scary  They are incompetent, you wouldn't believe how many obvious mistakes they have made or some of the things they have said / done...

unfortunately I'm not surprised. How old is your cousin? Has (s)he got someone to speak to the staff for them? If someone goes ranting and raving it just makes the staff more bloody-minded and less likely to help them out. If someone can speak to the senior nurse in a calm and reasonable way it may help. Believe it or not, sometimes the sister may not know what is going on. If the family consider all the staff of any rank to be equally useless, then there should be a PALs officer (Patient Advocate and Liaison or something like that). They can intervene on your cousin's behalf - they are there to prevent something escalating to a complaint. Or go the complaints officer. DON'T PUT UP WITH BAD CARE ... BUT be reasonable too. Shouting doesn't get you anywhere, whereas intelligent and structured requests should. As an ex-complaints officer I know!

She's 19 1/2, and has at least one family member with her the whole day until visiting hours end in the evening. Today her mum had a word with the senior Nurse who advised us to write down all the complaints, so my mum and I told her the things that had happened whilst we were there (which she wrote down) and then she added the things that had happened whilst she was there...

That's good - try to make sure you get names and times of day. Its amazing how many times they'll say "oh we don't know who that could be" but if you can say it was Monday at 5pm and the nurse was called Mary then they have to look into it properly. I hope her care improves soon - its bad enough being in hospital without having such bad care.

My rant: I'm poorly. I have NO voice, it hurts like hell when I cough (just at the place where your skin shows when you wear a v-neck jumper if that makes sense). I had to e-mail in sick today. I might go to bed in a minute - I never go to bed before midnight usually. I hope this doesn't turn into a chest infection like it did last time I had it. [sigh] or should that be [cough cough].

Ginger tea my dear - that'll take care of it. Or suitably strong medication, which ever you prefer. Pamper yourself in either case.

And yes I hate when it hurts like that - your afraid to cough!

Yes, me and my mum have been doing that...one Nurse refused to give us her name until my mum argued with her! She's still in hospital, but should be out tomorrow or Friday :hurray:

Red, that nurse should have been wearing a name badge of some kind.
Record and report it all to as many folks as you can. You can even bring it to the attention of the local press, they love that kind of stuff.

If the customer doesn't complain it is assumed that all is running smoothly and nothing gets put right.

My rant of the day :-
Tonight is my old school's "Awards Presentation".
Mum and I gave a lovely silver trophy for Art in memory of my Dad who was a noteable pupil there.
I usually go and have a little interview with the recipient.
My rant is that I am not going due to the worry of the flu' epidemic locally. I don't want a dose of that thank you.

Because they enjoy and miss the taste of meat, but don't like the cruelty involved or the thought of eating dead things ;)

(well, they're my reasons anyway, obviously they're not all vegans' / vegetarians' reasons...)

I think a lot of people say that about veggies too - totally missing the point that a lot of people do not want to eat meat for ethical and/or health reasons.

I think a better question would be for them to ask themselves why they eat meat...

I have to agree with you Neil, I was veggie for around 7-8 years when the children were younger, I stopped eating meat not only because I love animals to bits but also because I hated the texture of meat and some of the nasty bits it can contain.
But when I found myself out of work for quiet a while I couldn't afford to cook different meals for myself and for my sons so I chose to go back to eating meat. I must admit though that I still use veggie mince for all the family even now as they prefer it, and I believe that veggie food actually has more taste to it unlike some meat meals.

I still take the veggie option sometimes and I still enjoy it!

I still feel ill too. I can't seem to shift this cough, and now I feel really down and have an upset stomach, plus I nearly fainted earlier while sitting down! What a weirdo. I think its partly hormones (I'm at that 'age'!) and partly worry over Patrick (I'll post about her in the Rat thread).

Also, I caught the big toenail of my left foot against the heel of my right foot this morning, and I think I must've either dislocated or broke my toe. The nail is bruised and the front of my toe hurts. Its throbbing, like a cartoon toe when you drop something on it. I wanna feel well again, but perhaps that's a bit much to ask at my age.

Today has been a really **** day...focus on the worst part: the exam! To fill in the front of the exam paper you have to be an origami master (there are bits of the front cover to fold, tear, rip off completely, fill in, leave blank etc everywhere) and mine ended up ripped just about everywhere (slightly amusing) ...then the exam itself was absolutely terrible (not amusing!).

After the exam i went to the loo and got locked in :-\ THEN a massive stack of paper towels balanced precariously on top of the back of the loo toppled over when i was banging on the door for help, fell forwards INTO the loo and blocked it....

    Brilliant

Were you in there very long?

O dear, what can the matter be?
Red got locked in the lavatory,
Paper blocked it now until Saturday
    Poor Scarlett's tearing her hair...

I take it your exam wasn't in origami, was it Red?
Now that would be a brilliant exam, having to make your exam paper into a kestrel or something.

Reminds me of the friend of mine on his way back from his vasectomy to collect his car from the front of the Town Hall. Found he had put it in the Judges Park which now had a hefty chain.
Being a plumber he got out his hacksaw and delt with it....
    ...the chain, that is.

Thanks Red! You've just made my day...On the lines of your post above I googled Origami Chicken and I've just completed an Origami Chicken that lays an egg!
    "It's great"

    :woohoo:

It's an origami Milly Hen, isn't it?
I only just realised that the black pen streaks are probably to make it look light sussex-ish - I assumed at first that it was the only pen CW had around at the time.

my rant is about scummy neighbours. The people in the corner house just to the left of our house tried to get into our garage yesterday - most likely after hubby's motorbike. Luckily our neighbour had spotted them and he came out and told them where to go. They are neighbours from hell - the poor girl who lives next door has had a terrible time. Thankfully they're moving out this week.

Rant: never scrub at your face really hard in an attempt to get Tipex off...it hurts. But how the heck else are you supposed to get it off?! Tried everything (face wips, make-up remover, soap, water, scrubbing...) all it has resulted in, is a very red face still with bits of Tipex on it, and possibly even some broken skin in places....aaaagh! :cursing:
