    Keeper of the hens

Don't know if anybody knows, but my dad won't be coming home tonight - he's driving up to lake Windermere to take part in the Windermere row with his chums from work, haha! This year they're all dressing up as Elvis' and, after seeing my dad in costume, i can safely say he looks hilariously funny and also slighty stupid.

Anyway, he does that tomorrow and then if that's not enough he's doing the 30 mile bike ride on Sunday to raise money for Men's Cancer Research UK, with me and my little cousins! He's gonna be shattered :)

Keep your fingers crossed for nice weather this weekend and wish him luck for tomorrow. I'll make him post some pics of himself dressed as Elvis when he returns

I'm not sure about donations, but it's lovely of you to want to sponsor. I'll ask him if there's a way to make it easier to sponsor him and get him to post about it :)

I hope he gets nice weather. It looks like rain but maybe it will clear up by tomorrow, and if it rains on Sunday for the cycle that would be miserable :fierce:

Kate, i don't mind cycle rides but i can't run or jog for anything! I jog for about two metres and i'm close to collapse :D

We actually forgot to collect sponsors, so we're collecting them after we've done the bike ride too :D I have collected £5 so far (from three friends, there's more to ask but i've only seen three due to exams). I've been doing the bike ride since i was ten, but it's my little cousins' first time.

    Keeper of the hens

Elvis the singer, Diane :rolling: He was rowing with a hangover too - ouch! And Lynn, when i told my dad what you said, he replied "I am in great shape - ROUND!"

The bike-ride is done! It was a right pain...after 6 miles Tom got a flat, so we pulled over and my dad got out the puncture repair kit, only to find that the glue had dried up!!! We couldn't repair the tyre. Then my dad had the genius idea of packing it with grass :rolling: , and it worked for a few steps but didn't last. This must already have wasted about an hour in the boiling sun (do you know how much grass can fit inside a bike tyre?! :P )

So my poor dad had to cycle 3 miles there and 3 miles back to the nearest village, with Tom's innertube round his neck, to borrow some glue from the cycle shop! Meanwhile i was sat at the side of the road trying to keep my little cousin's entertained. My dad got back, we pumped up the tyre and carried on the 30 mile route, only to find all the marshals who show you the way had boogered off because they thought everyone had passed...so then we had to go all the way back practically to the beginning to take the 20 mile route!! :D

It was a nice ride though, and we ended up doing about 25 miles (my dad did 30+ !) instead of 30! Seriously though, packing a tyre with grass... :-\

It's very bumpy, and the tyre has a tendancy to fall off, we have discovered...

Did you have to drive about with a flat then until you could find somewhere?

I went round a bend and the back end was shimmying a bit, so I coasted into the next available drive. Which so happened to belong to someone from Chapel, so I got a lift, played my gig, got a lift back to the car, and then rang the AA. Phew...

FOFL - I love the grass in a tire idea. I'm guessing that the only way that idea would have occurred was post party/rowing. Unless he was also already smoking some grass...

Diane, he said he'd read about it in a cycling magazine. If you're in an 'emergency' situation with a flat and have no way to repair it, apparantly stuffing it with grass works. I object.

    Keeper of the hens

    Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been online for a few days - in the recent "tightening" of the firewall where I work (to stop the Sales dept slacking), Christian Jackson (a pompous jobsworth in the IT department) thought it would be funny to block hencam, so I can't post from work in my lunch or breaks anymore...

It's not that bad as I will check more at home, but I've been too knackered recently (and there's been *lots* of watching Tom play cricket too! :) )

And CC, thank you so much for your sponsorship - it's so amazingly fantastic as we've all been asked to get £100 each and I'm nowhere near that amount, so thank you! I do have pics, will post some (although I will never be able to show my face on here again after!) Cheers CC, much appreciated (you have beautiful handwriting too!)

In fact, I have a better idea, I'll private message you the pics CC, seen as you sponsored me ;)

Seems thats the way to get sponsors now - you don't present yourself in front of people with a pen and paper and plead pathetically for a penny a mile, you just send folk a link and leave them to it!!

Can we paypal to the hencam site or does that cause problems?
