I just got 2 new white silkie chickens. I'll have to build them a new pen, they are so much smaller than my other chickens.

    Keeper of the hens

Did you know that silkie chickens have dark, almost black, bones as well as having black skin? And that centuries ago people in the Netherlands sold them as 'half-rabbit-half-chickens'?

Silkies are also one of the few breeds of chicken that have five toes. Interesting breed, I used to want one like crazy so spent ages reading up on them :P

Um...can't remember now. Possibly because it was back in 2006 and Eva came along, and she more than made up for not having a silkie! After watching how jealous Milly was with Eva i didn't think it'd be fair on either Milly or the chicken to get a silkie after that :P

Posted By: JonnyOooh those Malays are huge!

    I told you!

I love the Malays, definitely another breed to look into! It'd be great to have 3 foot chickens wandering around the place

This is their "Nice Weather" home..they will be in the gray barn next to them (in the pic) in the Winter. They are very tiny little birds and don't need much room to run around in...too much running around outside messes up their long foot feathers.

I used to love to sit back and just watch my birds pecking and scratching around in the garden.

Have to say I do quite like the look of the fluffy little silkies. But CW is right, its great to kick back and watch the chickens scratching and sunbathing in the garden. I love it (even more so with a cuppa tea :) )

What is it about birds? They are so riveting to watch. I'm late sometimes, from staring at the birds in the bird bath or feeders outside my window. Or three hens sleeping.
