Thanks Jonny! When I finally left the party - he was up to 349. And, for all of you who know and love HER, it looks like our Governor is likely to win again. Although it was a tight race and nasty campaign.

Lynn - NO MORE POLITICAL ADS CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!

There is Elvis, shrieking his opinion. Not sure what he's proclaiming though.

Ok - I have to go write to 300 people on my Obama list for bed. Its 1:00 am here. YAAAAWN.

For those of you who are wondering about Jonny's numbers: He is showing the Electoral College. These are the folks we select to make the actual votes that count toward the election of the President. The people's ("popular") vote is what they base their votes on.

Anyway, the main thing to know is that Barack (or John McCain) needed 270 Electoral votes to win. He had much more than that by 8 pm my time. I think thats a record, in regard to speed. Its definitely a landslide in regard to votes. In addition, he has a majority of Democrats in the Senate. That increases the likelihood that our government can move quickly to solve some of the deep problems currently plaguing our country and impacting the globe.

Ok - clearly, I should go get some sleep. Chiao.

    Keeper of the hens

So really there was only a smallish percentage difference, but a huge difference in the final result?

Yep..you don't vote for the president directly, you vote the person who is a member of the party of the person you want to win..I think. This better describes the whole process

YES WE DID! It was touch and go - but she finally won. :D

Yes, Jonny. Each State has a certain number of members of the Electoral College. Each series of Counties (sub sections of a State) both parties (Democratic and Republican) hold a caucus, during which we vote in our representatives to the National Convention. That is where they nominate the person who will run for President against the candidate from the other party. At the caucus we also vote in our representative to the Electoral College. At least, that's how it happens in States where caucuses are used. Confused?

Sorry that one of my guests used an ugly word / raxial slur or whatever on here on the election night. I guess we gardners won't be able to call a spade a spade or a hoe a hoe anymore as that might be offensive to some folks. Someone was saying this morning that one of the White House gardners got fired because he asked if anyone had seen the spade. That sounds extreme.

LOL. I know that if I were politically correct I wouldn't laugh (or rather would pretend I didn't laugh and complain about it), but I'm afraid I'm not. Life is far too serious these days.

Jonny's post was the "final" result as of the moment that Barack was declared the winner by everyone. Its not the actual final count. Also - there are two counts looked at in a US Prez election: Popular vote (and a five percent spread is a record breaker) and Electoral College (the actual count used - which was very wide.)
