Hi guys, just a quick question, I'd been told that my girls would stop laying as needed 12-14 hrs of daylight to lay! At the moment, I'm still having an egg a day off each of them, not complaining at all, the whole family are benefiting and keep coming with empty egg boxes!

Will they stop laying through the winter?

    Hi sally!

Yes, your girls will stop laying although as this is their first laying year (i'm right aren't i?) they won't go through the moult and so won't stop laying as early as slightly older birds. If you're very lucky (and depending on their breeds) they may only stop laying for a few days, otherwise it could be anything from a few weeks to months...

Lucky you two still getting eggs! :P

My old girls stopped laying weeks ago, out of 19 hens I have one little hen that is still giving us one egg every other day. I can't believe I'm going to have to go out and buy eggs to cook with now.
