The nice crisp frost mentioned by Chicken Wing hasn't left the grass all day where I am - our lawn is getting all crunchy where I've been walking on it.

    I think they appreciated it.

I have just found the pattern for the chicken jumper on
    http://littlehenrescue.co.uk/jumpers.aspx
and they are asking for people with the knowledge of knitting for help to provide jumpers for the rescue hens.

New year resolution "have a go at knitting a jumper for the rescue hens."

Will probably turn out looking a bit like Reds or as if the moths have had a go at it.

the weather today is mostly all around me.
We have 4 lakes up here and they are all frozen today and one of them is 40ft deep and it has to be cold to freeze that one. Not that it has 40ft depth of ice on it tho, cos that would be silly. wouldnt it?

Well its -10 here at 7:42 pm (local time)..but at least its not as cold as Whitehorse has had all week...in the -30s...now thats fun..squeaky snow..clear skies..stars galore. Its really OK when you know how to dress. Layers..layers..layers..
And having boots that go down too -100 helps... I used to go to work in bare feet (IN my boots of course).

It can actually be quite toasty at -35 when you've got your Stansfield's on and your goose-down parka...honest.. I used to hitch-hike into Whitehorse at such temperatures...in the dark..down a lonely highway...watching the Aurora Borealis...quiet as anything too..just the crack of the odd tree every now and then..

Sorry Ace I was only joking :)

All you need is to use the font called 'Script' - it's a teeny weeny one though so you need to whack the size up to be able to read it.

Something like (with HTML enabled of course):

    <p style='display:inline; font-family:Script; font-size:32px;'>Hello Ace this is a test</p>

    Gives you:

Hello Ace this is a test

Don't go crazy with it though :)

Today it is -5°C outside and a beautiful white frosting on about everything. Just right for frosty the snowman I think. My poor chickens water was frozen solid this morning though.

CW, same here, although it only looks to be about -1*c here today. The chickens are in terrible narks and are refusing to do anything (other than eat christmas cake)

How are your girls coping with the cold? :P

I served mine warm rice with raisins. And that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO noble because I HATE cooking. And they had a taste, glared at me, and went to eat their (cold) corn.
I can't even cook for CHICKENS!!!!

Don't have any rice for mine but I think maybe I'll try cooking them so bulgar wheat later they should love it.
And I'm sure that your cooking isn't that bad or they wouldn't have tasted it. Perhaps they think you've put it down for them by mistake and believe its too good for them to eat so they are leaving it for you, for later!
    Yum! Yum!:001_smile:

We drove past some fen skaters today - the river had flooded a field and frozen so anyone in the area who owned ice skates or a sledge seemed to be out there messing around on it.

That sounds great Victoria, I haven't been iceskating for well over a year since I broke my ankle participating in it but skating in the open would be something else. I would so love to do that!

Bless you, CW for your faith in my cooking. But you're talking to a woman with a sign saying 'accidents' on the kitchen wall, pointed at her cooker. By her husband. Who never lies...

    Keeper of the hens

My friend once baked a cake for my other friend as it was her birthday...the cake came out like rubber, seriously it bounced if you dropped it! We decided to give it to the chickens as they will usually eat anything. We put it in their food bowl and they raced over, all excited...as soon as they saw the cake they stared at it in mixed horror & disgust, then stared at us with disappointment, and turned back to the coop...nobody even tried to eat it! :rolling:

I made some gingernuts at skool that even our LABRADOR wouldn't eat; my brother and I hung them from the cherry tree and shot at 'em! :)

I have just made some jam tarts and thought I would take one out for the girls to share. Just managed to get into the chicken run when Blossom (Milly look alike)grabbed it out of my hand and run to the other side of the run, she reminded me of the nave of hearts as she was being chased by the other girls...One of those occasions where you just wish you had the camera to hand to record it.
Not many tarts left now as the sons have found them! Poor Chicken Drumstick by the time he gets home there'll only be crumbs left.

Been raining all day today, was sodden on the walk up to campus and even worse on the walk back. Also forgot to put my wellies on, and instead opted for my trainers that are riddled with holes...NOT a good idea!

The hens are no more impressed with the weather than you are, Red. They've hardly been out today and seem to think it's my fault, they don't even have trainers with holes, let alone boots.

Now, there's a thought wellies for hens!!

It was a tropical 8 degrees c today after the weather never getting above freezing point all Saturday, and staying very cold yesterday. I've only had 2 jumpers on in the house today (I had 3 jumpers, a coat, 2 pairs of tights and 2 pairs of socks on in the house one day last week).

I know there's a pig who is terrified of mud and so has to wear wellies, otherwise it refuses to go outside! :)

There were 2 naughty hens in our garden today who'd got so much mud stuck to them that their feet looked webbed.
