We had a barbecue yesterday, it was cloudy but warm enough. Of course today, seeing as we'd already had the barbecue, was boiling hot all day :sarcastic:

It's been hot and dry here, no rain for days and days. The grass is already turning brown, usually it doesn't look like this till the middle of August. We are having a drought here and in California. We still have some water but California is out, born dry. We will be that bad soon too. We had no snow up in the mountains this year, so our rivers and lakes are drying up. I just hope our well doesn't go dry.

We had a huge thunder storm the other night. The rain was torrential and the first roll of thunder (we had no idea there was a storm) was so loud me and Lyle jumped out our skin, and went running out front to see if there had been a crash / explosion!

Apparently in Yorkshire the storm brought with it hailstorms that were over an inch wide!!

Tonight we just got hit with another storm. It's not raining particularly heavy (yet) but the lightning was so bright it lit the room up through the curtains when we had the light off! Thunder hasn't been as explosive either.

I am SO glad neither of our dog reacts to thunder. If it's really loud they usually look up, or look at us, but that's normally it. *phew*

How do all your pets do?

Tuppence hates loud noises (fireworks, thunder, etc). First roll of thunder she came indoors and sat on the bed and glared at me. Apparently the thunder was All My Fault. Sorry about that, everybody.

LOL!! Poor Tuppence! My lot don't seem too bothered. We had a massive storm right overhead last night - I've never seen so much lightening before, it was flash after flash with horrendously loud thunder, but some of the flashes were so close together it didn't get chance to bang too! Kitten took hubby being woken by it as an excuse to demand fuss and attention. Meow Meow and Tabby were both out in it - did I feel guilty?! I considered getting up and looking for them but they wouldn't have ventured from their hiding spaces because of the torrential rain.

Ahahaha oh that made me laugh! Poor Tuppence. We walk a dog that gets really intense itches just above her tail, and when she has one she furiously scratches it and then stops and stares at us like "why did you make that happen??" :rolling:

Did you have hailstones Kate? In Yorkshire they had hail so big it was damaging cars! We just had torrential rain, which was pleasant as it has cooled the weather slightly.

No, we didn't get hail thankfully - I wonder if the insurers refuse to pay out as it's an 'act of God'?

We have had the hottest, driest Summer on record, since they started keeping records in 1890 in Washington state.
We've had only one day of rain here since the last of May. Everything is sooo dead and dry. The forest fires are destroying a large part of the state, and the firefighters are all worn out. They are now asking for people who have any fire fighting skills at all or who know how to use heavy equipment, to please come and help. If Don and I weren't 71 and 68 yrs. old we'd go. We had 3 firefighters die this week when the fires crowned and jump the lines, trapping them. Today there is so much smoke overhead that everything looks yellow and you can barely see the Sun. I'm sooo tired of the smell of smoke:face-crying:

Oh Lynn that is so sad. I'm so sorry for those poor firefighters and their families, and for those who have already lost so much. I hope there will be an end to it soon for you all and that you and Don stay safe.

We have had a lot of rain here - today it has been sporadic but so heavy the roads were like rivers. We seem to be getting your share. I worry about what is happening to the earth.

The rain hasn't hit here yet but the wind sounds really strong (I'm sat in the office at Leeds and I think they've evacuated one of the offices nearby due to possible damage) - no rain (yet) though, all I can hear is howling wind...

Probably will bring Scarlet's power lines down if nothing else. :)

Glad you Ok Kate and Neil, its been mighty windy here with a good dose of rain every now and then. Our new next door neighbours have rigged up a gazebo for keeping dry when they have a ciggie and it was leaving the ground by a good four foot... they had secured it with bungee cords I was surprise the frame wasnt bent. One good thing is it isnt that cold here. I feel so sorry for all the people that have been flooded yet again.

Me too. The cats don't like this weather. THey're not particularly bothered by rain, snow, cold, but a blast of cold air ...!!

I saw my new neighbour yesterday - he had a flood. His dad had messed with a valve by the hot water tank (we have what they call a 'closed' heating system - meant to be very efficient, but if they're not looked after properly they can go off like a bomb!) Anyway, the pressure had built up over the 2 weeks and the pipes started to pop at the joints. Dynorod had to take up the floor in the back bedroom, replace the pipework (which is the closest to the tank), and put it all back. Don't know if the insurance covered it (if it didn't I'd have been after 'dad' to pay!!) Could've been worse - could have exploded!

Sootz and Daisy have been glad to stay in they dont like this wind either Kate. Trouble is they tend to get a bit stir crazy and have a snipe at each other. Sootz gets a bit whiny and underfoot when he is bored so I tend to put then out regardless of whether they want to or not for fifteen minutes. Usually does the trick also its a little bit of company for Chewbacca. she loves to follow them about but they are a bit wary as they have been pecked a few times

Tuppence goes out and sits waiting for mice - she hides so she is completely invisible, behind the bird feeder post. The post is half an inch wide and Tuppence...isn't. Then when she gets cold she comes in to stand on a human until her feet are warm, then completely blocks the hot air outlet for the central heating.
Your poor neighbour, Kate - I hope they are insured! Perhaps it'll be like the nice repair man who came to look at our telephone - any fault in the house and we'd have to pay £100, but outside it was free. So he fixed the fault inside the house, told them it was outside and went away with a hefty tip...:face-devil-grin:

What a lovely telephone man!!! We had to replace the central heating in our old house. We asked my friend's husband's boss to do the job. 2 days before he started he "let him go" saying there wasn't enough work. The boiler never worked properly. We had him out about 8 times as the damn thing wouldn't stay alight and he couldn't fix it. In the end we called Worcester. They sent an engineer but said if the problem was with the installation we'd have to pay call out plus an hour minimum. The engineer discovered the installer had left the packing in the exhaust pipe, so it kept cutting out. He put down that it was a faulty switch and also went away with a tip!

Well done with the repair men.... see you do get a bargain but in a totally different form !!!! Sootz likes to dry and warm his feet on us also CC. Makes me fair squeak when he comes in freezing and wet, He got the fluffiest feet ever, you can hardly see his pads. So the fur soaks up quite a large quantity of water. He dont mind getting wet its just the wind he hates, he shakes like a dog when he comes in so we try not to keep our distance. G/North dried him down using kitchen roll one time when he came in soaked to the skin. He had used almost a full roll. Sootz just jumped off the top and asked to go outside again where he decided to sit right in the middle of the garden until he was suitably wet again. I did have to laugh isnt that just totally cat.

Tuppence has her own towel which gets deployed when she's had to go out in the pouring rain because she's bursting...then she goes out and does it again. Our sheets need washing frequently because of the pattern being overlaid with muddy pawprints.:cuss:

    Keeper of the hens

Hello all, we had some minor flooding but nothing on Desmond. I know about a 20 minute drive from us was badly flooded again, I think it's the fourth time since December...in fact for us the flooding was far worse today from a high tide, the road was entirely flooded welly-deep for about 100ft! I took some photos so will try get them up at some point.

We did get lots of torrential rain with Storm Jonas (especially on the day when we had to travel 3 hours to an appt, 1.5 hours of that being walking in the rain...delightful) and 70mph winds. The funniest thing was Kasper's ears going crazy in the wind, and even his jowls were flapping!!! I'm gonna do an update thread and bombard it with photos so I'll also post a video there where you can see his ears flapping
We didn't have a power cut either, which was nice - thanks for thinking of us :)
