Actually you do tend to stiffen up if you stay out to long and aren't active...muscle get "slow".

Its actually kind of funny ( OK..for a Canadian! ) when your face muscles get so cold your speech is affected!

Wrap up warm, then! It must be such a pain having to put loads of layers on to go outside then having to peel 'em all (well, nearly all) off when you get to where you're going.

Actually, CC, I don't where THAT many layers...unless I'm going to be out for a long spell.

The key is protection from the wind and not wearing so much that you sweat..which BAD in cold weather..so layers with zippers is good.

You have to basically have to think of two things:

    1. How long am I going to be out (including unforeseen circumstances)
    2. What will I be doing (standing waiting for a bus, hiking threw the bush/forest/snow, etc.

Then dress to fit the situation.

You can't beat a long plastic mac as a wind stopper that can be flapped or undone a bit to ventilate as required.
    That's my standby anyway.
I have good nylon mac too but it hasn't got the same wind stopping abilities.

Yes, dialects vary mile by mile. My Dad had a different dialect to me and these were adjacent villages.

Shame that the deep dialects are dieing out of common useage. Another 40-50 years and they will be hardly detectable except for old die hards.

My Dad wrote dialect poetry and it is odd but I have had three different folks contact me on this in the last few weeks.

I remember my Dad telling how they were SEWN into their clothes for the winter....

    Phew...

Funny how we didn't used to notice the 'aromas' in the days of once a week baths taking our turns in the same tin tub in front of the fire - oh yes, we couldn't change the water...

I didn't have a bathroom until I had three children.
What a night that first bath time was. The water was streaming down the downstairs light fitting!

This is the last few days in Melbourne ...
    Wednesday 43.4
    Thursday 44.3
Friday 45.1 ... This is the 2nd hottest day on record. Records have been kept since 1855.

Melbourne is less than an hour drive away from my town, and a small country town 30 minutes away had 47 on one of the days.

This heat is uncommon, although 38 or 39 usually is reached 2 or 3 times per summer. As a general rule, after 1 or 2 hot days we get a cool change, sometimes with a thunder storm. It does not usually last for several days in a row.

All this talk of hot weather makes me look forward to my summer hols.
We have rebooked last year's villa in Portugal.
    A great extravagance...
It has everything we want, right to the hot sun, which I love.

It must've been cold yesterday, as big fat Bertha hen decided to sleep in her shed next door instead of outside in the leilandii hedge with the bantams.
