I have a legbar that has just started to lay eggs, i was told when i got her she would lay green eggs, the things is her eggs are brown. I have checked out pics of other legbars and she looks like them, just cant understand. Does any one know any thing about this breed and the eggs that they should produce? I posted here a while ago about my ethel layin her eggs over the wall that has stopped but the legbar has started doing it now too.

    Keeper of the hens

Hey lesley :welcome:, just in case i haven't seen you about before!

Legbar's are sweet birds, popular for the blue/green eggs that are a shade or two lighter than the Araucanas...are you sure she is a pure-bred Legbar?? Are they definitely her eggs that are brown, or is it possible they could have gotten muddled up with the other hens' eggs?

    Hi Les,
Are you a new keeper of Hens?
The legbar chicks are very similiar to Welsummers, I myself thought i had a Legbar last year, but in fact turned out to be a Welsummer. Welsummers lay a beautiful dark brown egg! Just a thought, hopefully this helps.

    The Love Donkey! X.

    hi love donkey,
Funny you should say about the welsummer i did some reading up on it, well my cousin did she has one as well, and we think that is what they are, her egg is dark brown. She has been layin them over the wall in the hedge which i just noticed and there was 10 wee eggs waiting. Yes i am fairly new to hens most of my hens are battery hens. Thank you for all your advice.
