    Keeper of the hens

My dad took lots of photos of the various animals here at hencam HQ today. James came out this morning whilst we cleaned his water and changed his viv around, then I got Sid out just to check he was okay and he was quite happy to sit and 'watch' TV, and then Milly had a dirty neck so she came in for a quick bubble bath and I pestered my dad to take some quick snaps of her all wrapped up in her blanket - which he did, thank you dad for all these photos!

Hope you enjoyed the pics, they were all taken by my dad. I think they're great, and hopefully they'll get put into an album at some point :great:

Oh wow super pictures They are really good and I really enjoyed looking at them. Seeing Sid in your hand like that shows just how big he really is. It is also a good shot of James tasting the air the markings on his head really show up. Milly always takes a good photo. I think she really enjoyed he bubble bath she looks real happy.

Yes my girls are very soft, they loved to be held. The bantams don't. I also have 4 of the large battery hens,
I don't know what bread they are called, (does any1).
My husband calls them the mob!! As when we let them out into the garden,
they try to get from the hutch to the back door to the dog dish in the kitchen before me or hubby reaches it.Very naughty girls, but i totaly love them..

Battery hens come in a variety of breeds depending on which farm you get 'em from...if they're brown they are probably ISA Browns or New Hampshire Reds, i believe :001_smile:

Glad you liked the pics of snuggly Milly - it's good to bring the girls in for cuddles every now and then!

What are you using to upload them?

You can give photobucket a shot if they're too big, it's pretty straight forward to re-size them on there. Anywhere around 500 will be okay :001_smile:

    Keeper of the hens

Yep, that link works if you copy and paste the it, Sara :)

Might not have been a bite, I'd imagine there'd be more damage to your hen if she'd been attacked by an animal...not to mention some very panicky hens and feathers everywhere!

Do you have any chicken wire / mesh anywhere in your garden? I know one time when Milly was free-ranging she ripped her comb on some wire and it took a chunk out and bled like crazy!
    :gasp:

Any other injuries to your girl, or any of your other chickens? It does look bite-like but i can't imagine that's the only injury your flock would have if an animal attacked...

If there are no other injuries or signs of distress i'd say it's probably just a peck from another chicken that went wrong (!) or your girl got her comb caught on something...

After you have entered your comment with the code for the photo/s in the input box you will need to click the "Html" button, this is located below the box that you have just written your comment in. It has 2 different options one is "Text" and the other is "Html" click on the round circle just before it says "Html" and then post your comment. ;)

    Keeper of the hens

    Awww, little baby then?? :)

They make really cool pets. Everyone assumes they were boring, but all the E Blockers have decided Sid's actually a pretty cool guy! He's got a nice sized tank now so i can add branches and rocks which he loves exploring, and it's interesting seeing what food he does and doesn't like. They're brill to handle too, although leave you a little slimy :ack2:

Have you got a name for him/her yet NN? :P

When you are adding the html link, such as

    <a href="http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/ii264/Red_Jellybean/?action=view&current=milly_wrapped_up.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii264/Red_Jellybean/milly_wrapped_up.jpg" border="0" alt="snuggled milly"></a>

, above the button you press that says 'Add your comments' to make your post, there is a box where it says 'Format comments as' and you need to click the bit that says 'Html' rather than 'Text'

I'll edit your post and change it for you if you like? But it'll be useful for next time you post a pic.

He is so much bigger than fluffy and his shell is such lovely colours and he has loads of twists in his shell. He sure is tucking into that tomato. I will get one out of the fridge tonight so it is room temperature for fluffy tomorrow. He don't care for cold stuff

We put general household rubbish in the brown, recycle in the yellow, and leaves in the green. The brown is emptied weekly but the yellow and green are fortnightly, but on alternating weeks... depending on which side of town we live on. We get a small brown wheelie bin and a large of yellow and green, but we can opt for a large brown if required. So on any one day a combination of 1 large or small brown, 1 large of either yellow or green, or just 1 or none bins can be seen waiting for collection. But in the same week accross town, the same combination may be seen with the exception that the yellow or green combination will be reversed, and in some suburbs alcohol is more popular so yellow bins will be fuller... often with cans and bottles holding the lid open.

and take away the number you first thought and divide by 7 to get the square root of pye then add on Thursday if it's an odd number in your area and your house faces north and you will have how many cans Trevor has in his bin each week!!!!!!!!!

Lucky you lot! Nobody could be bothered to drive up our hill and give us any extra bins, so we just have one green bin for general rubbish - all the houses round the rest of the village got paper and glass bins, but because we live on a hill and a dead-end lane, we get nothing :-\

Your bins sound very colourful, it must look very pretty on collection days.

Ours are quite muted colours but I still have to carefully remember that our green is not for leaves!

Yes, we just get black plastic bags for the general rubbish that the magpies rip apart in 30 mins (the time between hubby putting them out and me coming downstairs). We've recently been given a green wheelie bin for the garden stuff, a black box for glass, and a green box for paper - no cardboard allowed though!

It is different for bin colours and collections in every town and every county.
In Milton Keyhnes, it is pink plastic sacks for paper, card, tins and plastic. It a green wheely bin for all compostable material and black plastic sacks for anything that has to be put in a landfill.

My slugs are happy to be composted. :-)

Because people are most particular about having their own bins back, as their bin is invariably far far superior to those of the neighbours. So they paint their house name/number on the side to ensure they don't get next door's nasty plastic monstrosity instead of their own beautiful aesthetically pleasing creation...:) So all I have to do is look for a bin with the right number on, instead of crawling along the road peering up drives to look for a tiny house name or number on the front door miles from the road...

Ours is in sacks too. But ours is in PURPLE sacks!!! If it were in bins, the dustmen would have to come 300 yards up the path to fetch it, wheel it back 300 yards, bring the empty bin back 300 yards then walk 300 yards back to the lorry.
And how likely is THAT for a council bin man? :D
