I'm not sure what is wrong with your chicken's leg, but maybe Scarlet will know... It doesn't look like scaly leg mite to me but maybe it's how it looks before it gets bad?

If it IS scaly leg mite, then you slather the leg in vaseline as this kills the mites as they can't breathe.

I would probably suggest a visit to the vet - they'll be able to tell better in person...

You can't see the mites I don't think sara, just the effects of them.

Congrats on the bath, looks a lot better clean. Add the vaseline as planned and give it a week to see if there are any effects. Good luck and hope it helps.

I don't think it would have gotten to that stage, but if it had been left without intervention certainly the infection would have gotten worse. All her scales would have eventually fallen off and it could have resulted in lameness. Glad that you were able to help her, hope she makes a full recover :)

I think it would be nicer not to think of the money for ourselves but to help hencam instead. It can not be cheap running it all buying the cameras and the electical equipment and all the overheads that go with it. We have all been glad of the free advice and companionship provided by hencam so lets give something back.

If there were no cameras trained on the hens we would not be able to see them would we. To run the cameras you need computers and things like that. Overheads mean the elctricity needed to run every thing all the wiring and such. It isn't cheap all that sort of thing and Neil has paid for it all out of his own pocket so that means if a camera or something breaks he is the one that has to replace it or have it repaired

    Keeper of the hens

You might need a plugin to show the webcam feed - you can get help on the help page.

If you are using Internet Explorer, it normally pops up an ActiveX bar (the yellow bar that appears at the top of the page) and asks if you agree to let it install the plugin, click Yes or Ok to that and you should be in business...

If you use Firefox or Opera, then the help page has plugins.

If it still doesn't work, then try installing Windows Media Player 11.

I can't believe you haven't seen and heard the girls!!!

Hens are just so cute when they tuck their heads under their wings to sleep, they look like large balls of fluff. When I was young and lived on the farm my brother and I used to hypnotise the hens by tucking their heads under their wings and gently rocking them. We used to line them up in a row and watch them wake up one by one wondering just how they got there.
