Now the chicks are nearly 9 weeks old, we think we know which are the boys. This morning a pair started fighting. It's harmless at the moment but I don't think we'll be keeping them / one of them. Here's a video

It looks a lot worse than it actually is Goosegog, They are bantums arn't they and the males do fight. They are very teritorial and are just starting to establish who is the boss. It would be a good idea to thin them out especially if you haven't got a lot of room for them to range.

    Keeper of the hens

Ouch, nasty! That's quite young to be so aggressive! Do you know where they are going to go?

It must be quite awful to watch them - but just look at their liddull feet!! All fluffy and cute!

Thanks for your replies. What do you mean by 'thin them out'? As in, remove troublesome ones? "Do you know where they are going to go?" - In the oven? Not sure I could eat my own but I'm sure a friend would like them!

They are miniature black silkies and it's quite funny watching them wrestle as they're not actually getting hurt. They look very scared when you pick them up. Those big beady eyes...

Awwww....! Can you separate them at all?

Yes thats what I meant Goosegog you may only have to remove one. Silkies are just so cute so someone would be thrilled to have one I am sure. I could not eat my own hens either. They are only getting hold of each others feathers so not hurting themselves lots of baby animals tussle and fight it is a learning proccess and establishing themselves into their pecking order as I said earlier.
