Rosie, since Ruby died a few weeks ago, has got really attached to me. I mean, literally, every time I'm in the garden she is no more than 2ft away from me. It's started getting ridiculous now (after my neighbour pointed out that she was standing out on the pavement looking a bit confused, having followed me when I put the bins out - and I, the dreadful big chicken, didn't notice), so I decided to try some chicken psychology and divert her with food - her most favouritist thing in the whole world.

It's been really hot so I treated the girls to a lettuce that was in the fridge overnight. The soft outer leaves disappeared almost immediately. Looked out later that afternoon to see Rosie pulling this white football around the back garden and realised it was the lettuce heart. It was nearly as big as her and she was dragging it about like her life depended on it. She even growled at me when I took it off her to break it up.

She was so cross with me but she doesn't follow me around any more!
