    Keeper of the hens

This forum has replaced the old MSN-style chat - to be honest it was a bit of a pain to administrate, as anyone could use it (which meant it was a nice easy target for bored schoolkids), and was quite open to abuse. Worst though was that it was very difficult to keep a conversation going as you were normally the only person in the chat and secondly that other smaller conversations would be happening around your conversation.

This forum hopefully avoids these problems - it's easy to use (when you get used to it!), and the conversations are kept in a "threaded" format so you can easily read the whole posted messages and add your own replies.

However, if you really, *really* want the chat back, then let me know, we might be able to resurrect it!

I think the forum's okay...just gonna take a while for everyone to get used to it, I'm still struggling to adapt to the layout :P

It's better in the sense that people can have real conversations now, and threads/posts to themselves.

I am missing the early morning folks (to us) that are just going to bed !
Are they confused as to where to post?

One thing I wonder about is that the chat still came up for me - under the Forum link until I did a bunch of refreshing to get to the forum. Until I finally brought the forum up, I thought Neil hadn't actually gotten it on line yet - that the blog was more of an advance notice. Are people still using the chat? Are they talking about the forum at all there?

I really hope we DO all switch to the forum because we'll be able to really communicate together and because we have to register, which means the bored kids will not be as interested. And also we can create catagories for topics. And there is a "conversational history." The down side is that the format will feel strange to folks initially, and so, I'm guessing, even when they do come on they'll feel like they prefer the chat for awhile...

But Ollie, like you I miss the other folks right now. I also feel kinda silly when I post - because most of the posts are from me at the moment. On the other hand I feel like if I stop and wait for everyone else to find the forum, that the forum will lose some energy... What to do? :D

Congrats on the change Neil. The forum is much easier to navigate and I'm sure administration will be easier too. It feels much "safer" than the old style.

Greetings to the hens and their friends.

Hi Everyone I'm in the US and I never saw anyone in chat. it was always empty. At least this way i feel as though I'm in touch with someone. Thanks Neil! This is a grand idea. :)

I agree with HeartsanCareBear -- I'm in western Canada and it was always something like 4:00 a.m. when I checked out the chat.
