    Hi all,

One of my beloved 24 week old chickens is not acting her usual self. The sisters were let out for a peck in the garden earlier and all was fine. They were put away in the run before we popped out for a couple of hours and on our return home I went down to see them and was not greeted by Lottie in the usual LET ME OUT manner.

I opened the run and her sis Lola shot out as normal, Lottie just sat at the back of the run looking sorry for herself. Watched her for 5 mins and she drank loads of water which I thought was a good sign.

She did leave the run eventually but seemed pretty uninterested in everything, even a worm I presented to her! Her tail is pointing downwards and she keeps stretching her legs and closing her eyes. There are no strange discharges from her and she looks normal apart from what I have stated.

She didn't put herself to bed tonight instead choosing the log in the run to perch on. I picked her up (no battle there for a change!), had a good look at her and plonked her on the perch in the coup.

I popped back down to the coup about an hour ago and received a filthy look from the pair for waking them up with a torch! She didn't look any better though.

We were treated to our first egg yesterday, but we think it was Lola chicken not Lottie. (she was spotted smugly walking down ramp before we found egg!)

Any ideas what's wrong with her?

    Thanks in advance.

Phew! That must've been such a relief! Glad she's OK now.

All these people giving chickens baths and Shobhna bathing a baby, I feel left out. Wonder if the cat would like a quick dip?! (no, I'm NOT mad enough to try it!)

... and book myself in for some plastic surgery to repair the damage she'll inflict!

    Keeper of the hens

Egg bound is most common in pullets, first eggs can be a pain to squeeze out

Glad you recognised the signs and were able to treat it, love to you and your girls :bighug:
