    Keeper of the hens

Well, after so much improvement Sid's looking bad again.

Everything inside is out once more. Last night we thought his shell didn't look as good as it had, but figured he was still on the mend because he was all tucked up inside, but when we sprayed him and gave him fresh food he'd be straight out to eat it.

Went over to my house this morning to feed the animals and finish off an essay due in at 1pm, and Sid looks....very bad.

Not sure what more we can do

Sprayed him, he has fresh food, but contemplating whether to just give him a small container of very strong beer and let him drink himself into oblivion...Lyle is out today till like six as well, so i have no idea what to do for the best

Will be back home at about five after lectures, so shall see if anything has changed then, for better or worse...

Sorry to hear that Sid has gone down Hill. Unfortunately I know nothing of snails, but it sounds like your doing everything you can. Chin Up. How long can he survive carrying on as he does do you think.

Are there any forums or groups that can offer you some advice? There must be lots of other people out there who keep snails. Poor Sid - at least he's got you looking out for him. I hope he can pull himself back from this again.

(Is beer the humane way to euthenise a snail then?!)

Hi Red, just passing through and spotted your post about Sid. I am so sorry, poor little chap. Unfortunately there isnt a lot you can do, but hope for the best. You could consider letting him go into hibernation as he will seal himself into his shell and hopefully be able to mend himself while he sleeps. You will have to stop spraying him and move him to a cooler spot. He should then retract into his shell and form a seal over the opening. He can stay like this until the spring and could then be as good as new all being well. You just place him in a shallow drop of warm water to disolve the seal and wake him up at a later date. Sorry I can not be of more help to you, there isn't much known about snails when it comes to their health matters. Thinking of you and all love from NN xxxxxxxx

    Keeper of the hens

Hi all, thanks for your lovely messages. Just dropping by to apologise for not being on recently and bring some bad news.

Sid passed away on Friday 13th November, it was very sad, especially as we had thought he was recovered :( We buried him in our garden under a tree, and my friends very kindly made him a coffin and even decorated it and put coloured feathers in there for him (sad I know, but *shrug* ) Everyone came out to say bye to him, it was very sweet.

Been a tough time, and have been swamped down with work at uni... *yawn!* Handed yet another essay in today though, so that's one more down... : )

But yes, sorry i didn't let you all know sooner. RIP Sid

Thanks for letting us know Red and I'm so sorry. I bet he was there to meet Fluffy when he died and they're both slowly making their way over the rainbow bridge together. I think its lovely that your friends made him a coffin. RIP Sid and Fluffy. xx
