I thought as we have an international feel on this hen forum it maybe cool to see some of the sights from our home towns

You're in Milton Keynes!!! Got it from the first pic (those cows are infamous!) but having been an annual, sometimes bi-annual visitor to the ice rink I recognise some of the other sights.

The roads confuse me, though I'm told they're supposed to be easy. Its all about 'blocks' isn't it? Easts and Wests and numbers - probably really obvious if you live there, but as a visitor awful! The Little Chef burnt down the one year we were there, an hour after we left. And no, I didn't do it!!!!!!!!!

This picture shows some carvings in the bulkhead behind Holly. Look familar to anyone? Lynn?

I had a really hard time finding any photos of my town without the town name in them! Apparently we don't want the tourists to forget where they are...

    I just love the cows.
I have made thing like this in the past and once I get my energy back will do some more - not as much space though.

I have quite a tale about Milton Keynes. I live a little way up-country to there and was going to a meeting the next day. Hubby and I had a map of M Keynes but to our frustration found the road signs were all just numbers, which, of course, were not on the map. We got very lost, everything was so much of a grid and so square!
Pulling in to an all night refreshment van on one of the intersections we asked our way. The couple behind us listened and come up offered one of their places. Seems they were a couple just getting together and at weekends stayed in one or other of their places.
They took us to one and showed us in. "Help yourself and make it your home."
A lovely, tiny accomodation. Black satin sheets and everything that goes with that!!!!
We couldn't believe the friendlyness and trust.
They had an enriched wine bar after our stay..
Don't suppose that was you Wazza? - About 15 years ago!

Wazza and Diane , You are from such lovely places. Ollie that was quite an interesting story. I will just tell you where my hometown is, as it is rural and no need in looking at pictures and trying to guess. I am from Marianna, Arkansas in the the delta, not far from the Mississippi River. The closest big town is Memphis, Tennessee. The most remarkable thing about Marianna is that it is on Crowley's Ridge, an earthern range of hills that no one knows from where it came from or how it was formed. Crowley's Ridge stretches north to south for 100 miles and there is speculations that it slid from what is now Colorado during the Ice Age. The soil is most like what is found in Colorado.

Ollie Hi, Hmmmm black satin sheets.. 15 years ago... Nope not me... 15 years ago I was living in a small village called Monks Risborough in a 600 yr old thatched cottage..

Infact if you Google Monks Risborough you will see in IMAGES a photo of Cottages in Burton lane... my cottage is the one in the back ground not the nearest one to the camera but the next one

    http://www.localauthoritypublishing.co.uk/councils/princesrisborough/monks.html

What a beautiful place check out the link and see for yourselves (Not sure we can put links to web sites on here that work?)

Janice; We were down your way last month.... we went to that area and down to Chatanooga, we stayed in a motel near Memphis as well... we just had a great time touring...

Diane I guess from your user name you live on Whidbey island washington state..... your town looks so clean and fresh. (Love the big rooster)

Thge roads in Milton Keynes are actually easy, no the V and H roads are numbers and dont appear in many maps.. but the M1 passes w-e so does the A5.. the A421 and A509 and A422 go n and s... then the V roads (Vertical) and H horizontal roads link these all up.....

Kate.. you make me laugh... burming down the Little Chef.. Hmmm we are still trying to find the offenders.. are you giving yourself up but playing hard to get ?

Its been a standing joke in our house for many years, especially as the following year we went to Holland to an ice hockey tournament and 2 months after we got back THAT burnt down too!! We could see live footage on the internet and the smoke could be seen for miles and miles around. The sad thing was our younger teams were due to go there that week and it was obviously cancelled. However, another local dutch team offered to play them and arrange a mini-tournament so all was not lost. I'm not a firestarter - honest!!!

I livein the centre of Yorkshire, in a little village, which is in about the centre of England. I have been here all my life, over five score years and ten.
I first was in a small cottage with one bedroom. Then when I was married we moved into a barn. Not one of these lovely conversion jobs we see on our TVs. This was a barn, complete with stone slab floor laid straight onto the dirt and very thick stone walls. I had my three babies while we lived there, one was actually born there.
Then the authorities decided it was not fit to live in and pulled it down giving us a newly built three bed semi-detached house on a site right at the other end of the village. After quite a few years here we were one of the first to buy our 'council' house. I still live here now, all on my own, the children all gone and I was widowed just a couple of months before our Golden wedding.
I was the local district midwife for the last twenty years of my working life. That was fantastic.

Wow Ollie that's fascinating! (But I thought Meriden nr Coventry was the centre of England?! They have a monument claiming to be!) Yorkshire is a much nicer place though.

I had a very complicated childhood which would take forever to post on here (my friend says I should write a book and give it to people when they ask me anything about it!), but I lived in council houses as a child, a high-rise as a first home when my son was 4 months old (after living with my lovely mother-in-law for the first 13 months of marriage!) and had to live hand to mouth to buy our first house, and stretch ourselves again to buy the current one - but I love it!!!

Hey you two - thanks for sharing your "home" history. Its very interesting and I like the way it 'fills in' my picture of you. Sort of like the feeling of sitting around at a coffee shop sharing histories and getting to know each other.

Like Kate, I can't really consolidate my history easily. I was born in California and moved when I was a teen to Canada, then back to the states to go to college - where I've been ever since (with a very brief 3 months in Europe when I was 17/18.) By the time I was 40 I had lived in more places than my age... (Mostly different apartments and due to either wander lust or finding a more interesting job or better dwelling.) But for the last 10 years I've lived in my cosy little home on Whidbey - growing roots. For 35 years or so I worked in social service programs (social justice, housing and/or food aid, anti-apartheid work, and other things I've probably forgotten.) Mostly in the food aid arena tho.

Sorry Diane, chasing you around again!

My childhood was spent about 20 miles from where I live now, and the furthest I've travelled was to Holland (ice hockey tournament as mentioned in another post) and the Isle of Man. I don't think I have wanderlust, just a massive envy of anyone who has travelled. Perhaps I will one day.

You all sound like you've had really interesting and satisfying lives.

I enjoy learning about your homtowns . I was born in Marianna, Arkansas and lived in the same house on the farm until I went away to Conway, Arkansas to get my Pre-law degree at the University of Central Arkansas. I lived in the dorm four years. When I graduated, I married the milkman back in Marianna and we started out living with his mother but that did not work out so well so three months later we moved to Helena, Arkansas and I taught school and he worked for a different milk company. We lived in a duplex until three years later our son was born and we bought a nice three bedroom ranch style house that was out towards the country side. My husband owned his own milk route by then and he wanted me to stay home with the baby and that is what I did for 12 years, until Son got old enough to be a latch key kid ( could be responsible for getting off the bus and coming home and being able to be on his own for a couple of hours until I got off work ). I went to work for the department of human services division of children and family services, as a social worker. I worked until we moved to Mississippi in 1995. We started out with a milk route in Grenada County and by 2004 had expanded to serving several counties in Mississippi , almost from the Arkansas border to the Alabama border and up to the Tennessee border. In the meantime our son had married in 1998 and by 2001 had two daughters , ages 2 and 1when one morning he called to ask me if I had a place for "three refuges". His wife had ran off with a guy from the internet . He and the girls came to live with us and he gave up the lease on his apartment . It was like suddenly becoming mother to a set of twins . It was fun though and those girls are still like daughters to me. His divorce became final within 3 months and he was awarded full custody . He continuted working in the family business with his dad. Just when everything got settled down .... the ex wife came back to town and had no place to stay and no one would take her in . He has a loving and kind heart so he rented a place for her and before long they reunited . This March, he bought a house in Grenada .I do not know if he secretly remarried her or not. The girls visit me often . The oldest got into the hen cam chatroom once and with her little girl lack of proper spelling, sort of spooked some folks. Neil was kind and understanding, as usual. We lived in a rather classy part of Grenada for a few years but got tired of the snooty neighbors and decided to move out into a more middle class country area in a neighboring county. Now we have Morgan Freeman for a neighbor . He is very nice. We live in a small house and it is much easier to care for and I have more time to watch hen cam . Also, over the past year, we have down sized our business to witin 50 miles of home. Less diesel, less trying to find honest hard working employees, less headaches. But while doing business with people of all races, ages, and personalities and making friendships across the state , my husband gained quite a following of people who like his ideas about government and has been approached about running for Congress from our district. Who knows , where we may be living next. LOL

They were flower girls.. not bridesmaids... they attend to me, in Hindu weddings its the man who has the attention. The two younger girls were daughters of a fellow officer (Now retired) and the elder a daughter of a very very dear friend who is also an Ex cop... The 4th one you forgot is Monkeh from my other web site forum our mascot.

Wazza (what does that name mean anyway?) - nice job telling your story in photos. Sigh someday I really do need to switch from dial up. I agree with Kate, you have a beautiful wife there. I LOVE the photo of you as a little boy. Is that a boy scout outfit? I believe I had a girl scout uniform very similar to that (minus the knee socks & cap & with a skirt & sash - ok not so similar...)

I'm curious W what your colleague at the police force think about your chicken, etc friends?

I love sparring with people who have a good sense of humour! I like to laugh and never get offended by something that is typed as I always assume its meant in the same way I'd write it (if that makes sense). I work with a couple of girls who don't really get my sense of humour, but some of the others do and we have a ball some days!

Big input gives you a bigger box to type in Diane - nothing more than that!
