Trevor has told me I can pass on his latest news.
    :blahblahblah:
He flew out to China at the weekend for 2 weeks.
Trevor is in luuurrvve with a Chinese girl named Anna, he first met her when he visited Shanghai in Dec 2008 (on his way to hencam for his Jan 2009 visit). Anna and friends were taking photos by a bridge and asked Trevor to take a pic of them, he obliged. The girls then suggested Trevor and his mate may like to see a local cultural and musical show that evening.
    They went.
    They swapped numbers.
    They corresponded.
    They chatted online.
    They used webcam.
They found they were getting to like each other very much.
Trevor went back last October 2009 for another visit.
Anna came here for a month in May this year.
    She loved it.
    He loves her.:heartsabove:
    She loves him. :rainbow:
    We love her.:threesome:
She wants to come to Australia.:nicegrouphug:
Trevor has gone over to organise visa etc and to visit the embassy and they are making plans for a future here together. Anna speaks English very well, far better than she gives herself credit for. It all very interesting as to what is required and the whole process you have to go through as it is such a different culture to ours.
This time Trevor will also visit the world expo in Beijing and the Great Wall of China.
Her family live inland quite some distance away so he will visit them next time.
We aren’t sure how long it will all take, maybe 6 months but we may have a wedding here early next year!!!!
    They are excited.:cheer:
    I am excited.
    We are all excited here.
    Our grand daughter is excited.:cheerleader:
    Even the cat is excited!!!!:cat:
Trevor says hullo to all the hencammers and he will try to have a chat soon when he returns.:computer:

My son text me to say they're going to book their wedding for 22nd or 29th Jan next year! (I didn't put him up to it, honest!!) I'm used to him giving me news by text - that's how I found out about Caitlyn too. Anyone know a bargain wedding dress site? (And what does the mother of the groom wear?!)

Kate, tell them to look on Freecycle and on eBay; you can get beautiful frocks there cheaply. I believe Oxfam sell dresses on there which people have donated - my friend makes wedding dresses and she has altered a few for people who have bought them like that. She says you can get good quality big name designers really cheaply.

Hi all, thankyou for the kind words and well wishes. Happy 40th Neil, too bad about the holiday. I am in Beijing at the moment, staying in the olympic games area. I will see the bird's nest and water cube tomorow, then go to the wall on Monday. Here is a pic (I hope) from last week in Shanghai.... thats where the Expo was mum, hehe. OH... speaking of the expo... we tried to get in the VIP line to the UK pavillion because the ordinary line was hours long..... but seems that Australians are not English enough, haha. We got through VIP for the Australian, New Zealand, Denmark, and Morocco pavillians though.... and that filled the day in. Talk to you all soon.....

Congratulations Trev and Anna (and Trev's mom)! I agree with everyone - Anna is quite stunning. But, more importantly, she has been given a clear stamp of approval by Thomas. I'm guessing she had no idea, upon meeting Trev, that a little hen house in England would effectively globalize her engagement and wedding! :)

Well we are back from Aireys Inlet for wedding anniversary break but on the second day I started coughing and broke out in cold sores.:ack2:
We came back early and I have seen doctor. It is of course the nasty upper respiratory tract chest infection I get most WINTERS. BUT ITS SUMMER HERE FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!! I thought I had missed it this year, yippee, but it snuck up on me. I felt sorry for Brian as I was not very interesting company and he has been great while I just rest up and wait. Doc said not a lot he can do, doesnt want to give me antibiotic yet with my history so see how I go this week. Feeling very weak, coughing my sox off and not even interested in computer or reading. Guess its my time to simply stop and do nothing. So cheesed off that BB and I finally got away for some quality time and it fell in a heap. bugger!!! but that's life, so I may not be around here for a while but will gradually catch up with all your posts.
love and stay warm and well.:043::biggrin:

Thanks everyone. I'm just hoping that their antibiotics will keep them going for a good while longer. Saffy is sounding pretty ropey lately and her lump is getting quite big, but its not time for her to go just yet thankfully!!

I have just finished reading 'The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer (published in 2008). It is a lovely story presented as a series of letters, set in 1946 just after World War 11 on the isle of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, relating how the locals coped with 5 years of German Occupation during the war.

Although ficticious, much of the detail was based on fact. It is a very touching and human story, a short and easy read and Mary Ann's descriptions took me right into the heart of the township and it's people. Unfortunately she passed away in early 2008 age 74, before seeing her book in print.

I just wanted to ask if any of you know of more titles, fact or fiction about that part of the world which I find very interesting and it sounds so beautiful.
I also wanted to share an amusing piece with any hencamming book lovers. Here 'tis.

Part of letter from Isola to Juliet
    24th April 1946

"Clovis Fossey has asked me if you would send the Society a copy of your prize winning essay on chickens. He thinks it would be nice to read aloud at a meeting. Then we could put it in our archives. I'd like to read it too, chickens being the reason I fell off a hen house roof-they chased me there. How they all came at me-with their razor lips and rolling eyeballs! People don't know how chickens can turn on you, but they can-just like mad dogs. I didn't keep hens until the war came-then I had to, but I am never easy in their company. I would rather have Ariel (a goat) butt me on my bottom-that's open and honest and not like a sly chicken, sneaking up to jab you.
    .......etc etc.
    Your friend
    Isola. "

It reminded me very much of 64, Charing Cross Road'. I read the potato pie book on holiday and really enjoyed it, Julie. I love the very polite rudeness of it! Very like the Mapp & Lucia books by EF Benson.Hilarious, but touching.

:thumbup:Hello everyone, I have not popped in for a visit for a few weeks but have enjoyed catching up with many of your posts and pics and even Shobhna’s mint chutney recipe. It really does make me chuckle to read all the funny things our animals get up to, they are so entertaining and they don’t give us cheek either. Red has been busy building pent house accommodation for her pets and all the hibernating animals are beginning to wake up and all of your hens seem to be livening up for spring.

I am presently struggling with a difficult family situation. Our eldest son and his wife are separating and she is going to live with her father and step mum in a town an hour away with our much loved and only grand child 8 year old Isabelle. They will move in a couple of weeks. Many marriages seem to struggle now days and divorce is not an uncommon occurrence. As a parent and grand parent (and as in-laws) our role is a difficult one as want to be supportive to everyone and not take sides.

Isabelle’s parents believe they are doing what is best for her. Who can argue with that, even if we disagree with anything it is not our life but theirs and they must do what they think is best.
So I am very sad at present as even though I know we will see Isabelle it will not of course be with the same regularity. We wont be doing school pick ups etc. I haven’t been sleeping well for months but have now got some sleeping pills to help for a few weeks. Things always seem easier if one can get some decent hours of sleep.

It is really heart-lifting to visit hencam and be able to share, rant, laugh, cry, scream, shout, chuckle. We all have hurdles in our lives sometimes, every one of you has had a bump along the way but we manage to climb up and over them and still laugh.

We now have to concentrate on getting Trev’s Anna here from China asap. The wheels are still moving there but very slowly. Hopefully we still have a wedding to look forward to this year and then maybe some more grand children down the track.

Hope you girls are fluffing up your hats and wedding outfits for the Royal do on the 29th. I am definitely going for purple and may even post some pics of me in my outfit shortly. Brian has a lovely purple shirt and tie to match, he lent his top hat to Prince Albert of Monaco and he still hasn’t got it back yet.

Thanks folks for the laughter that keeps us insane …er...sane… and it is great we can chat about so many different things here.
    Cheers for now Julie:swingin:

Hi TM, I wondered where you had gone to! I am so sorry about your son and his situation and can sympathise with you completely being in the same situation.
Sometimes it is the best thing to do though despite initial appearances, and as you say only they can make that decision and all we can do is support them however heart-wrenching it is for us. I hope they can split amicably for the good of your granddaughter. It will be very tough but you will all get through it, as I am sure we will. My son has nothing - no home, no furniture, no car, no money, but we love him and his kids dearly and do what we can to help.

Yes, we have all been through some tough times haven't we. I always admire how people cope with their problems and it gives me the incentive to keep chugging along and hoping for the best.

Not sure I'm going to the wedding, I just can't find a hat in the right colour so might have to watch from the comfort of my armchair!

Julie, good to hear from you. It is never nice to hear of anyone divorcing, specially when there are children involved. I hope and pray that you will be able to keep a good relationship going with your Isabelle because that is the mostt important and that you can be a support for both your son and his wife at such a difficult time.

As you say, we all have these little hills and mountains to climb and the only way is upwards on onwards. That is the only way I know.

Thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way..

Kate, I also know that you are going thru similar and it cannot be easy. Thinking of you too and sending good thoughts your way..

Sorry to hear your news Julie, what ever is happening at the moment every thing seems to be difficult for so many people at the moment. My eldest Grandaughter tried to end it all last weekend, luckily she was found in time, we still don't know why and she says she don't know she was just fed up with every thing. It has shook us all to the core.

That must've been a terrible shock NN, I'm glad she didn't succeed. I hope she will be offered some professional support - after the year I've had I can really see the benefits of counselling and support. We often think that kids today are overly dramatic, but they have so many pressures on them and they grow up too quickly. They don't seem able to lean on their friends and relatives the way us older generations did. I hope she will be OK in the future.

I agree NN, dont push the youngies to grow up too early. Let them be kids them develop along a natural path. Too much influence from negative media and pop culture, now I sound like and old f*#%t. I hate seeing little girls dressed up in clothes that are more suitable for a teenager.
Hope things work out ok for her NN.
