    Keeper of the hens

Sorry for the lack of updates, it was a bit manic what with Scarlet and Helen's birthdays (only 1 day apart!), but things seem to be getting back to normal now...

Tilly has chosen to moult now the weather has turned freezing - she just can't seem to get the timing right!

One of the workmen fitting our new chimney flue asked Helen in a worried tone "Is one of your chickens not well?", as he'd seen her (quite disgusting) spiny back and bare bum!

It does look like it could be really painful for them whilst the new spines are growing through, so I'm making sure they have plenty of treats and don't get handled until she looks a bit more... feathery.

Speaking of workmen, the saga of our building work is still continuing, but to be fair to the builders it's not strictly them we're waiting on now (other than an electrician who promised to return a month ago and has never been seen since!) - we have a fire-shaped hole in our fireplace, but no fire!

We ordered it from The Gas Superstore and they promised delivery within 2 weeks, and that they would ring to arrange delivery as soon as it came in stock. 2½ weeks later I rang them to see what was happening and they said "Oh it's in stock, we'll deliver it on Monday" - I was slightly annoyed because if I hadn't rung them would the fire still be sat there?!

Anyway, the next day I had a call from them saying the fire had been 'damaged' and that they now needed to re-order it, so another week's wait at least!! I suspect they either never had it in stock, or sold it to someone else.

I'm pretty annoyed, as now that puts us behind schedule massively, the builders can't fit the fire if it's not here, so they can't finish the plastering around it, so we can't paint, so we can't decorate, and it looks like it won't be ready for Christmas now...

    Arses!

If anyone knows of a good painter/decorator that has very reasonable rates then please let me know!

Neil, sympaties when it comes to builders and decorators. they are alwasy keen to get the job but once they have got it...well, that is another story, isn't it?
Can't help you there since I could do with a good builder and decorator myself soon. :face-smile:

I do know good builders and decorators over here, but that's not going to be of any help at all, since I'm so many thousands of miles away..all I can do is send you my sympathy for your situation...been there, done that, got the Tee Shirt.:face-sad:

Have you mentioned the word "discount" to them? I suspect you are right and that they've sold it to someone else. One of the bath shop specialists did that to my sis-in-law when she had waited 4 weeks for a shower tray - and had to wait another 4 weeks for the replacement. ("you can always cancel" they said. Great customer relations these shops have!)

Loved the letter to Bradford Council - very well written!

I thought this kind of thing only happened on Whidbey Island. Partly, because when it does happen (and it generally happens) we all look at each other and say: Island life...

I remember the day of a big wind storm, I took Holly for a walk on one of the beaches. Really high waves. The parking lot was FULL of trucks; plumbing trucks, electrical trucks, construction firms, flooring installers... And the bay was full of sail boarders. Just in case you wanted to know what is really going on, Neil. ;)

Now I have vision of all these surf-boarders on the nearest reservoir to Bradford...all with major big holes in their surf-board thingys and all drowning fast. :face-devil-grin:
