    Keeper of the hens

    Dear sir or madam,

On the 19th of October I received 2 letters informing me that I had contravened a bus lane in Bradford on the 3rd of October, and was required to pay a fine of £30 for each contravention.

I paid the fines the next day (on the 20th October) and was also advised that there was a third fine outstanding and that I "just hadn't received the letter yet - it would be in the post".

I paid all 3 £30 charges, however I have not received a letter informing me of the third contravention, and without this letter and evidence it is impossible to say if I actually am liable for the charge, or whether the council worker made a mistake and I ended up paying one £30 charge too many.

I also believe you have 30 days to send the letter and evidence, so I advise you either comply with the legislation and provide written details (via letter and accompanying picture evidence), or refund me the third charge as soon as possible.

Incidentally, I am aware you shouldn't drive through bus-lanes and I hold my hands up to this heinous transgression, but Bradford city centre has become horrendous to drive around, it's convoluted and confusing - when I drove on Market Street on a Sunday, I saw no buses, nor was a danger to others.

This whole expensive saga has meant I will simply avoid Bradford town centre in future and will shop in either Keighley or Leeds, both of which are far friendlier to motorists than Bradford seems to be.

It will be a shame when Bradford becomes (even more of) a ghost-town, but at least you'll have nice empty bus-lanes.

    Regards

    Neil Whitaker

You tell 'em, boy. And without evidence you don't need to pay, surely?

I did the same in Leeds.
Went down a road in City Square that I had used ever since I started to drive.
I was flagged to one side by a policeman and given a ticket.
That road is now buses only and I had not seen the sign as too busy watching the traffic and the lights.

There's no reason to go to Bradford City Centre anyway...well, apart from the Russian Restaurant :face-smile:

Some years ago I was fined for parking in the wrong place in MK city centre but thier parking attendant was on a different plane because he put the day of the week and the date and time incorrectly on the ticket...Sorted in'it. :face-smile::face-devil-grin::face-smile:
